50% of college coaches think Okafor will be the best pro of the 2014 class

Yesterday, CBS Sports’ “Candid Coaches” series told us that 49% of college coaches consider John Calipari the best recruiter in the game. Today’s anonymous survey deals with the 2014 class, and who coaches believe will be the best pro of the group:

Which 2014 prospect will have the best NBA career?

Jahlil Okafor: 50 percent
Cliff Alexander: 16 percent
Myles Turner: 9 percent
Emmanuel Mudiay: 9 percent
Tyus Jones: 7 percent
Karl Towns: 5 percent

Others receiving votes: Trey Lyles

Obviously, Towns is the only UK commitment on the list, but probably not for long. Mudiay and Lyles will visit for Big Blue Madness, while Okafor will come to town for the Alumni Game on September 9th. Jones will follow on September 27th. Turner and Alexander haven’t planned visits to Kentucky.

Here’s what one coach had to say about Towns:

He has a chance to do to the center spot what Magic Johnson did to the point guard spot. He can change the position. That’s not an exaggeration. He can be an NBA superstar. The only thing that stops him is if his people mess him up and get him to be entitled. But he has skills, IQ, strength, motor. And he’s a smart, coachable, personable kid.”

From everything we’ve heard about Towns so far, I seriously doubt he will develop a bad attitude, but that’s some high praise. Now, it’s time for the other dominos in the class to drop.

My predictions for UK’s 2014 class:

Karl Towns
Trey Lyles
James Blackmon
Emmanuel Mudiay
Stanley Johnson

Your turn.

agree, think we also get vaughn or oubre … there will be min to go around at sg, johnson can play some 2, but aaron harrison and young could both be gone if they bring us #9 … 247 updated their rankings:

Good class.. but we will probably be #3 after Duke (Okafor and Jones) and KU (Alexander and Turner). That would sting but we will be competitive if some one the 2014 kids stay back.

2 – i disagree, if we miss on a lot of these guys we’ve offered, we may end up #2, but i don’t see a chance at all we drop to #3 … i think unc will also end up in the top 3, not kansas … just my opinion

It will be a great class but possibly not the freaky awesome class of this year. I remember not too long ago when UK would land a kid in the top 100 and we would be excited or we would get a virtually unknown juco kid (Galloway) and we would talk him up as a great player.

Trying to enjoy the run we are on.

If we get all those guys we will have the #1 class. The only barrier will be someone wanting to put another class ahead of us just to be different….just like kids are inevitably going to go elsewhere just because they’re desire to be different will tip favor to other schools. All of those players listed above would be a deep and diverse class, #1. The players who are leaning our way are on the rise and that will continue. Quit whining…….

Is this Okafor related to the star from UConn a few years back?

I think we get Tyler Ulis as a backup point guard. He’s small but tough nosed and talented. Can’t have too many tough point guards.

Prediction for the class and have a good feeling from all the people I have talked to that it will be as follows:

    Karl Towns Jr
    Emmanuel Mudiay
    Stanley Johnson
    Rashad Vaughn
    Tyler Ulis
    Angel Delgado

    Rashad Vaughn
I think we are in a good position with Vaughn and think in the end we will land him with the names you listed

Mudiay, Blackmon Jr., Johnson, Delgado, Lyles, Towns. Looks pretty good to me. Okafor would be good but we don’t need Jones! We don’t need that package deal!! GO CATS!!

All of you are dumb… We WILL have the #1 class yet again. We could have another class with 4 or 5 top ten recruits. No one’s beating that!

Tyler Ulis Alexander is Kentucky’s top target he will be wearing blue and white with Kentucky on it next year. could care less if we get Jones he’s soft and not nearly vocal enough to handle a team full of freshman. Now there’s a point guard Tyler Ulis that is 38 on ESPN’s list, for me he is the best of the bunch, 2 weeks ago he practically shutdown Jones while at the same time scoring 20 some odd points with 20 assist. Coach says he’s high on him I sure hope so he’s a tough hard nose in your face point guard. GO BBN. ILF#9

My bad didn’t mean to have Tyler Ulis as Coach Cal sop target don’t even remember putting that in front of Alexander. But Tyler Ulis is one of my favorite, if that matters at all lol
