4-Star 2014 QB D.J. Gillins Decommits From Texas Tech, UK Leader?

D.J. Gillins is a name that has been on the radar for Kentucky since it was announced Neal Brown would become the team’s offensive coordinator. Gillins committed to Texas Tech with Neal Brown as his main recruiter but it seems now that dual-threat QB from Jacksonville will look elsewhere for college.

Gillins is ranked as a 5.9 4-star player and the 103rd ranked player overall in the 2014 class and is on ESPN’s 2014 Top 250 Watch List. According to @RecruitKentucky, Gillins sent him this over direct message on Twitter:

“wassup man. Kentucky offered me and I’m going to their spring game on April 13”

It is somewhat disputed whether or not Gillins has a commitable offer from Kentucky, 247 Sports says he received an offer on December 12th but Justin Rowland from Rivals also claims that Gillins does not have an offer on the table and that Drew Barker is the only QB the Wildcats are looking to take right now. Who knows at this point, this football recruiting stuff gets a little messy, but the fact remains that Gillins is on the market once again and the ‘Cats seem to have his interest. UK’s main focus is on keeping Drew Barker in state, but having another highly ranked QB with interest is never a bad thing.

Don’t really know the first thing about football recruiting and I get being stocked for the future/having better talent but how many QB’s do we need?

If a 4 star recruit is interested in us we are interested in them.

Depth is very important to success in football. We need quality backups at each position on the field. Bring em on!

That appears to be a photograph of a wax statue of Gillins. Do we have any actual pictures of him?

Does he know any 4-star receivers, if he commits, to throw the ball to? That’s what we need. I’ll take a 3-star QB throwing to a 4-star WR any day of the week.
