2013 guard looking to reclassify to 2012

2013 point guard Stevie Clark is looking to reclassify to the 2012 class and he wants to hear from Kentucky if he makes the jump. Clark’s mother said he “has the green light” from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Florida State, Missouri, Louisville, Arkansas, Memphis, Baylor, Tulsa and Stanford, but they’re waiting on calls from UConn, Ohio State, and Kentucky. The decision to head off to college early is because his high school coach took another job, although Clark plans to stay at Douglass High School for his senior season if assistant Gerrell Thomas is promoted to head coach.

Scout.com ranks him as the 14th best point guard in the class.

The recruiting carousel keeps on spinning. Try not to get dizzy.

Odd reason to go early/stay. It’s almost like he expects his coach to be replaced by a douche.

I think I read where a top 30 player from the 2019 class may reclassify to 2012 too.

OK, thats bullcrap but damn….this is some crazy stuff.

5’10 4 star point gaurd… UK probably isnt the right program for him. Especially since we usually bring in the number 1 player at the position.

    3…agreed.

Other than the wild news of another player reclassifying, thats about it for us to digest here.

14th best PG? 5’10? Doesn’t seem to fit the typical PG under Cal.

Only player Cal will add to 2012 class is Tony Trocha if he reclassifies.

Pardon my ignorance, but how can he be in the 2012 class if he isn’t a high school senior?

How does Louisville continue to show up on what seems like every recruit’s list? They have like 20 players!

I don’t get it. Why is a 4 star point guard jerking everyone around so that he doesn’t get stuck with a crappy high school coach? This sounds like another Alex Legion.

Just how exactly does this reclassification process work? These guys must working really hard in the classroom.

Still waiting to hear from UCONN, OSU and UK, wow does this kid need attention! I am going along with the rest of you, 5’10 point guard who is trying to jump into a class. We already are full at the guard spot little buddy. And as far as kids putting Louisville on their list, its the flavor of the past few months, since they did make it to the Final 4 after all. Jesus they had a parade and a celebration and a rally and a festival on 4th street.

You think this kid has an ego problem? He has to make sure all his “top teams” are interested before he decides? I’ll decide for you, take a hike! We don’t need no more damn guards! Especially one interested in Louisville. Probably same qaulity as sosa, siva, and the rest.

I’m all for good players, but I already don’t like this guy. He is basically holding his high school hostage- trying to force them to bring his guy in. That is ridiculous- he’s in high school! Imagine how he’d act with the big stage of any of the schools he’s listing.
I don’t for a minute think we should consider ourselves better than 4 star kids, but this kid is not starting off his college career well. He doesn’t seem to me to be a team-first kind of guy.

#14 PG ??? Had he heard from Cal before his decision to reclassify ??? Or Matta for that matter. Doubt it. Stevie’s best plan would be to reclassify to 2014.

11 in a lot of schools now with the right schedule you can have all of your required but one or two done with by the end of junior year. add a couple saturday or early morning classes and it isn’t hard to graduate in 3 years

He also has a 4.0 GPA, so he wouldn’t be a bad backup. Someone who could teach the Harrison twins the system next summer. But it’s still extremely unlikely to happen.

We dont need this kid. Once we get the harrison twins we wont need a PG to this kid for next season. He wouldnt even play this year with harrow, mays , and goodwin at guards

Wouldn’t put too much stock into rankings. Trey Burke was the 15th best point guard in last year’s class according to ESPN. I’d kill for him to be a Wildcat.

    25. Back in April the word was Trocha was heading back to Columbia, but still planning on reclassifying to 2012. I’m not sure how to do a link, but Eric Bossi had this to say a while back:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/highschool/05/10/anthony.bennett.recruiting/index.html

Keep an eye on this Colombian prospect
Tony Trocha is a four-star prospect ranked No. 59 in the class of 2013. He’s a 6-10 forward from Colombia and recently relocated to Houston (Texas) St. Thomas during the winter. Blessed with plenty of raw potential, Trocha was expected to be heavily targeted during the grassroots circuit this summer.
That could all be changing. Trocha just took the SATs and will likely enroll as a member of the class of 2012.
After originally being touted as a Perry Jones-type player, Trocha is now being scouted as a Nicolas Batum-type small forward. He has a 7-foot-5 wingspan and good agility, and is considering LSU, Texas A&M, Kentucky, UCLA, Oregon, Ohio State and Providence.

Sounds like it is an attempt to get the HS job for the assistant coach. As for how could he graduate if he is not a senior. He is a 4.0 student that has probably taken extra courses especially summer classes so it is safe to assume he already has enough credits to graduate. It is not unheard of a HS or college student graduating in 3 years.

What is this “reclassify” stuff? You’re either in one grade or your not.

    28. Thank you. I looked around and read where coach Payne was at his first open gym run in Houston and that coach Cal like him. 6’10 with 7’5 wingspans sounds like a promising prospect. Montrezl Harrell looks solid with out much upside. I think adding on more big in 2012 is a must, interested to see who it will be.

  32. Are you Kidding?
    3:46 pm May 21, 2012 Permalink

This sounds less like a kid looking to reclassify and more like a kid and his Mom trying to make a power play on behalf of his assistant coach. Besides, #14? Is he even on our board?

Not sure why UK would even made an offer to Clark. Not signing someone like Clark and signing someone like Mays who has only one year of eligibility sends out a signal that yes the Harrison twins are a priority for 2013. Don’t see Calipari doing anything to make them possibly think otherwise.

  36. RYNO
    4:34 pm May 21, 2012 Permalink

Judging by the talent pool of 2012 point guards, this guy would normally be ranked in the 25th-35th best PG in normal years. Easy to see why he’d want to leave this year instead of next. Not what UK wants/needs. Scholly burden for 4 years. Might shape up to be good, but I don’t expect Cal to offer him if he manages to reclassify.

    9) And how do they miss on every one of them? Have you looked at UofL’s class for 2012? One guy. Rozier. I know Matt always says they have like 20 players, but I think he’s just being funny. They actually only had 14 players on their roster last year. They are losing Kuric, Chris Smith, and Swopshire, so they have plenty of room. I think they might have a transfer or two coming in as well.

Graduating in three years, especially if you are willing to take summer classes seems reachable. I could have easily done it without any summer school because I was an aide for three semesters which was zero credits and only needed one credit to graduate and may not have needed the raw hours because it was a core.

There were also two juniors that graduated with my class, they had their credits and could call it a day.

Reclassifying seems pretty easy for even just a fair student who doesn’t screw around with their schedule and hits their cores.

I’ve never got how a girl in my class was only 15 and was not one of the juniors. I can only guess two early skipped grades because there was none of that middle school on.

The 14th best point guard in a weak class of point guards isn’t that good.

There is probably a reason he hasn’t heard from the big time schools.
