2011 NBA Draft Thread, Kanter to Jazz, Knight to Pistons

The KSR Crew is out and about celebrating Beisner’s 37th birthday, so no Live Blog tonight, but this night isn’t about us.  Besides, Turkey Hunter used all of his sexist, inappropriate jokes on the Miss USA blog.  It’s about Enes, Brandon, Deandre, and Josh.  And of course your support and love for them.  So give your predictions from where the Cats will go and once they get drafted, we will put it on here if you are not watching live.

7:30pm: We should start a pool of how often they play Adele before the end of the night.  My over/under is 51 times.

7:33pm: New Jersey crowd doing their best Casper the Friendly Ghost impressions at David Stern.  He calls them “great fans” and nearly gags.

7:35pm: Hey Matt Jones, you forgot Jon Barry in your great white NBA players conversation.  Idiot.

7:39pm: Cavs select Kyrie Irving, assuring they will only lose 59 games next season.  Hey, at least the Heat didn’t win the title though Cavs fans.  I guess you can celebrate that.  Also, I have a good feeling Baron Davis has a 6th wind in him and will become an all-star again.  Wink Wink.

7:45pm: TWolves select Derrick Williams.  And Enes Kanter breathes a huge sigh of relief.  I’m not sure but I thought I saw him high-5 his father after that pick.

7:49pm: The great thing about Stuart Scott is that no matter what camera is on, he is guaranteed to be looking at it, whether intentionally or not.

7:50pm: JAZZ TAKE ENES KANTER!!!!!!!  Ummm, is this a good thing?  Al Jefferson better move out of the way.  Stern does announce him as from Turkey and University of Kentucky, but ESPN graphics only list Turkey.

7:52pm: Kanter dedicates rookie season to UK fans.  Damn dude.  I think he trying to take Mashburn and Patterson’s roles as favorite UK players ever.  Ballsy.

7:57pm: Tristan Thompson to the Cavs.  Dan Gilbert may have just guaranteed having the best odds to get the top pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.  So, well done.  Just getting more TV time for your son.  Brilliant.

7:59pm: Thompson the highest picked Canadian in history.  Kinda like saying I was the best looking dude on the tennis team in high school.

8:02pm: The Raptors pick not Brandon Knight, which is really all that matters and has to excite him.  Next up is the Wizards.  Cmon Wiz, lets have a double UK point guard starting lineup.

8:05pm: The Lituanian guy just finishes his interview, which sounded a lot like Drew Franklin after a typical Friday night.  Not sure what he said, but I am sure it was damn funny.

8:07pm: The Wizards select a Czech guy, which is boring as hell.  What wasn’t boring was whoever that freaking woman was that gave him a kiss.  Highlight of the night.  Sorry Enes.

8:11pm: Foreigners be taking over.  Thanks Obama.  Bismark Biyombo goes to the Kings.  Here is my lame joke of the night: First time Demarcus Cousins blocks his shot he should tell him “You Congo in my paint”.  Boom.

8:14pm: Here is the problem for Knight: Pistons at 8 have Rodney Stuckey.  Bobcats at 9 have DJ Augustin. Bucks at 10 have Brandon Jennings.  Warriors at 11 have Steph Curry.  Hell, he still may go to the Jazz at 12.  JAZZ AT 12.  That is my prediction.

8:18pm: OK, it took me 4 minutes to be dead wrong.  KNIGHT TO PISTONS.  Congrats to Brandon, but where does he play behind Rodney Stuckney?

With regards to next year’s team, could a new CBA “two years out of HS” rule force them to stay, or is it more likely that it would be enforced against the 2012/’13 class and later?

Cleveland completely fumbled their draft, not that we really care as UK fans but its worth mentioning. Its a needs combo when you have 1 & 4 and you should look at them together. They actually would have been better off taking Kanter – 1 and Knight – 4, than what they chose. Thompson was a ridiculous reach at number 4. No argument with Irving but it left them with a 4 pick they really should have traded. They suck for a reason. Unfortunate Knight ended up at Detroit.

ok so at first I was excited about Knight and Prince on the same team. Then I reread thru these posts – and realize he did get screwed (had forgotten how bad of shape the Pistons were in), and lied to – or maybe Decourcy’s (I refuse to capitilize the C) article carried too much weight?

    97) The Pistons haven’t been a threat since they first let Ben go. That broke up the championship team, and they’ve been collapsing since. Tay’s about the only piece left there (or is Rip still there? I know he was benched), and I think he’s a Free Agent now.

    8:37 pm June 23, 2011 Permalink

guys, you can quickly tell how these franchises got in the lottery, they cant judge talent or pull the deals they need to pull to get better fast. I mean the Cavs had soooo many chances to have a great combo….I mean, Williams/Knight combo would have added immediate help, Kanter/Knight obviously, Look at Charlotte, they suck and they make a trade to move up for a guy that would have been there for them anyways.

  101. Han
    8:40 pm June 23, 2011 Permalink

    100) I think a lot of it is successful sabotage. A team ahead of a Charlotte convinces them they’re going to take Bismack. Charlotte freaks out and trades.

None of them go after a good coach, either.

But you’re right. There’s a reason a lot of these teams keep ending up in the lottery every year.

I’d rather play in Baghdad than Detroit. Only slightly less dangerous, more educated, not a future wasteland driving their own away with the reckless political decisions (and guess which party has ruined Detroit).

    http://urbantitan.com/10-most-dangerous-cities-on-the-world-in-2010/

    AND

“In the city of Detroit today, there are over 33,000 abandoned houses, 70 schools are being permanently closed down, the mayor wants to bulldoze one-fourth of the city and you can literally buy a house for one dollar in the worst areas.

During the boom days of the 1950s, Detroit was a teeming metropolis of approximately 2 million people, but today the current population is less than half that. The city of Detroit, once a shining example of middle class America, is now a rotting cesspool of economic decline and it actually saw its population decline by 25 percent during the decade that recently ended. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Detroit lost a resident every 22 minutes between the years of 2000 and 2010.

So why are people leaving Detroit so rapidly?

    There simply are no jobs.

At the height of the economic downturn, the mayor of Detroit admitted that while the “official” unemployment rate in Detroit was about 27 percent, the “real” unemployment rate in his city was actually somewhere around 50 percent.

Since there are not enough jobs, that also means that not enough tax money is coming in. Detroit is essentially insolvent at this point.

Detroit officials are trying to implement some austerity measures in a desperate attempt to get city finances under control.

For example, the state of Michigan recently granted approval to a plan that would shut down nearly half of the public schools in Detroit. Under the plan, 70 schools will be closed and 72 will continue operating.

It has been estimated that the remaining public schools will have class sizes of up to 60 students.

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing also wants to cut off 20 percent of the entire city from police and trash services in order to save money.

Essentially that would mean abandoning 20 percent of the city of Detroit to the gangs and to the homeless.

The mayor of Detroit has also discussed a plan in which authorities would bulldoze one-fourth of the city in order to save money on services.

So with all of this going on, is Detroit a pleasant place to live at this point?

    No way.

Today, Detroit is considered to be the third most violent city in the United States.

In fact, crime has gotten so bad and the citizens are so frustrated by the lack of police assistance that they have resorted to forming their own organizations to fight back. One group, known as “Detroit 300”, was formed after a 90-year-old woman on Detroit’s northwest side was brutally raped in August.

If you want to see what the future of America looks like, just take a few hours and go driving through Detroit some time. But please only do this during the day. Do not do this at night. Detroit is not a safe place anymore, and you cannot count on the police to help you in a timely manner.

Detroit was once one of the greatest cities in the world.

But today it is an absolute hellhole.

121: “LOOK AT WHAT BILL WALTON SAID Says: ”

That’s not really Bill Walton. No wonder that fake recruiting expert said we’re the easiest fans to fool.

Knight to Detriot isn’t as bad as people think. Stuckey can run the offense while Knight plays off the ball. So that’s good for Knight except he has to live in Detroit.

What’s more interesting is the Kings essentially through their trade picked the Jimmer over Knight. They gave up Beno Udrih in the deal which suggests they view Jimmer as the long term PG. If they thought Knight was better than Jimmer they could have just taken him and not made the trade.
