2011 Derby Classic rosters released

Kentucky’s entire 2011 recruiting class might’ve declined invites but the 2011 Derby Classic roster is still pretty stacked. The Derby roster includes seven McDonald’s All-Americans and 18 of the 24 participants are ranked in Scout’s Top 100.  Two of the participants, LeBryan Nash and DeAndre Daniels, are in the Rivals Top 10.  Although the event lacks future Wildcats (pending Lacey decision) for the first time in its history, many of the names are very familiar to UK fans and that should be enough to draw a full house.

I don’t think Dan Owens has anything to worry about.  The Derby Classic is still an elite high school all-star game. See you at the Yum! Center on April 22.

so can I say it’s safe to assume that those seven McDonald’s All-Americans were not invited to the Jordan game?

It doesn’t have much UK flavor, but that is a STACKED field for the Derby Classic. I’m impressed that they got Nash, Cook, Williams, McLemore, Dawson, and Bello.

What?!!?!?!! Not one player from Bellermine of Jefferson Comm & Tech College. Where is the outrage?! If I lived in the city I would be ashamed. I am betting it’s because those schools are partners with Pepsi and the YUM center is Coca-Cola. Hmmm.

What about Braeden Anderson? Shouldn’t he be highlighted as a UK target? I overlooked him at first b/c his name wasn’t bolded … with three UK targets, I think some UK fans might actually show up for this after all.

Why isn’t Braeden Anderson bolded? Isn’t he a top UK target?

Lacey, a 6-foot-4 guard who has signed with Kentucky, hit 9-of-13 from the field and sank 5-of-12 3-pointers. He also connected on 11-of-15 free throws.

We would be loaded at the wing/guard position next yr if we land Lacey. With Teague,Knight (if he stays),Liggins,Polson,Poole,Lamb, and Miller also plays some time to time and my man Hood would be farther down the bench than he was this yr!

Lacey has NOT signed. He CAN’T even sign until April, folks. Pretty simple.

It’s a gymnast, actually. I work at Champion Gymnastics, a gym here in Louisville. We have a large gymnastics meet that we host around Derby time each year called the Derby Classic, so it’s the logo from that. Why it was the image of choice for the basketball game, however, is beyond me.
