2010 Wildcats vs. 2012 Wildcats???

goodwin-cousins-mkg-poyth

I was fortunate enough to be with DeMarcus Cousins and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist last summer as they argued over whose Kentucky team would win if the two were ever to play head-to-head. As you can see in the photo, Archie Goodwin had to break up the playful, but serious debate. And that’s all it was, just a debate. Those teams will never have the opportunity to actually play against each other, so we thought.

KSR has learned that UK is working to get the two teams to settle the debate on the court, in Rupp Arena. DeMarcus’ 2010 team will likely play Kidd-Gilchrist’s 2012 team as the alumni game during the fantasy camp this fall.

Time to settle it once and for all.

This is the greatest idea I’ve ever heard. Don’t see any reason why it couldn’t happen. Two of the best/most comptetive teams in UK history and both teams are still young and in their prime. Please make this happen!!

Wall on Teague; Bledsoe on Lamb; Cousins on Davis; Patterson on Jones; I guess Miller on MKG. So 10 NBA players going at it. The question is, is there a bench? Miller and Wiltjer were the bench for the 2012 team. So maybe let the 2012 team have Miller and the 2010 team can start Liggins? IDK. What I do know is this would be awesome.

2010 v. 2012 (im assuming we are talking starters vs. starters)

    Cousins v. Davis
    PPatt v. Jones
    Miller v. MKG – I guess??
    Bledsoe v. Lamb
    Wall v. Teague

IMO, I think the 2010 team is better. Cousins is one of the best centers in the NBA. Wall is becoming a franchise point guard. Patterson and Bledsoe have both played solid minutes. I just don’t see the 2012 boys being able to slow down the 2010 team. Looking at the individual match-ups alone, I think the 2012 team has only one true advantage and that would be MKG over Miller.

I’m more excited about this than I am next year. I think 2010 wins easily, but maybe the 2012 team can outshoot em in a one game match. How did 2010 not win?

  20. Toothless Temp
    12:57 pm June 28, 2013 Permalink

10′ wins easy. ’10 team has had more time to practice their skill then the ’12 team.

Would have loved to see both these teams matchup in their “real time” together.

The truly bad part of trying to do something like this is no matter how much you plan, schedule, organize, etc… There may be one or two that just can’t make it. So I would expect some role players coming back to fill that gap or gaps perhaps. I could be wrong but looking at past attempts with bringing folks back for scrimmage games, clinics, etc… it does occur.

The fact that the 2010 team has an additional two years of pro experience makes this a lopsided win. Wall and Cousins are WAAAAAY better than they were in 2010. Wall has a jumpshot and Cousins learned to play without fouling. 2010 team by 15 points.

Several years experience in the league will be a huge advantage for the 2010 team.

The 2010 team has also had 3 years in the NBA – practice against the best of the best, training in NBA facilities, and customized diets. I think it would be good game (and I would pay HANDSOMELY for tickets), but the playing field just isn’t level. If the circumstances for each team were the same… it would probably be the Wall/Teague matchup that would be the downfall of the 2012 team.

#41, that is exactly right and as for the U of L fan trolling around on this board, it’s not only UK fans who say that about last years college teams being so weak. All of the basketball analyst said it throughout the whole season and during the NCAA Tournament.

Miller was more important in 2012 than 2010, and 2012 already will probably be absent Wiltjer.

2010 – Wall, Bledsoe, Cousins, Patterson, Stevenson, Harris, Liggins, Harrelson, Hood, Orton?

2012 – Teague, Lamb, Miller, Jones, Davis, Vargas, Polson, Wiltjer?

2010 benefits not only from the guys having had more time to develop in the league, but also the major developments of Harrelson and Liggins in 2011. 2010 may not get Orton, but losing Wiltjer hurts 2012’s depth even more.

Can 2012 maybe get Knight and Kanter spotted to them?
