Noel talked his mother into UK

A new post on ESPN’s recruiting website makes it sound like Nerlens Noel had to talk his mom into Kentucky. ESPN asked some of the Jordan Brand Classic participants about their commitments, and Noel admitted that his mother favored Georgetown:

Nerlens Noel
Tilton School (Tilton, N.H.), C
Signed to: Kentucky

The school that came in second for me was …

“Georgetown. My mom really liked them a lot. She was sold on them. She loved how family-oriented they were and, like I said in my blog, my mom’s opinion was what mattered most to me. We had to sit down and talk and I had to really get her to take a longer look at Kentucky. Then when she did she started to like them a lot, too. But it was pretty close, man. It was pretty close.”

Alex Poythress said he like Vanderbilt, but went with his gut in the end:

Alex Poythress
Northeast (Clarksville, Tenn.), SF
Signed to: Kentucky

The school that came in second for me was …

“Vanderbilt. It was so close. They were recruiting me for the longest and I honestly had the best feel for that school. But in the end I just had to go with my gut feeling. But it was close.”

Wow. This kid is perfect for Kentucky. Selling his mom on UK says so much about him. We’re the most nit-picky of all fan-bases when it comes to basketball, and this kid still REALLY wanted to come here. He’ll fit right in and definitely enjoy the ride.

Well Rasheed Wallace would have went to hometown Villanova had Dean Smith not went to Philly the day after winning the 1993 national championship and hypnotized him in his living room.

Rick Pitino doesn’t have to do any convincing. Mothers dream of their sons coming to play here.

    10. The reason is we have a full roster. One only went after 1 elite recruit and we got him.

Pay no attention to rankings. Give Rick a few seasons to coach him up and he will be scary good!

Interesting that Shabazz said that Duke needed a scorer and that interested him. He went to UCLA for adidas and to score a ton of points. He wouldn’t have fit into Coach Cal’s team first philosophy. Doesnt mean hes a bad kid, I just think UK wasnt right for him.

Richard, you don’t bug me seriously. Your like a bad relative or neighbor thats kinda weird and everyone just smiles and steps around you when you enter a room. But my question is this… Why do you not want to be around UL fans instead of on here? Is it like legacy-envy or are you seriously like the neighbor or weird family member and afflicted?

Love the Flat Top Fellar, but I have to break some bad news.

Turley is a fake. I knew THE Turley Curd and he had one leg and was a deacon at Clover Bottom Baptist Church. Turley passed away a long time ago – I believe 1998.

Like the humor and the Turley Curd tribute, but I knew Turley Curd and this man ain’t no Turley Curd.

    “Recruiting in the name of…..”.

    Georgetown certainly is family-oriented (not).

So family-oriented that the University and Basketball program either prevented, or spun the storied past such that Nerlens’ mother does not know about John Thompson Jr.’s marital indiscretions.

He was as family oriented as Rick Pitino.

Vanderbilt finished 2nd to UK for Poythress. I’m sure Stallings took comfort in knowing he was beaten by Coach Cal, AGAIN!!!
