This Day in History: Kenny “Sky” Walker wins 1989 Slam Dunk Contest

On this day in 1989, Kenny “Sky” Walker won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

Walker competed against Clyde Drexler (Houston Rockets), Spud Webb (Atlanta Hawks), Shelton Jones (San Antonio Spurs), Tim Perry (Phoenix Suns), Jerome Kersey (Portland Trailblazers), Ron Harper (Cleveland Cavaliers) and Chris Morris (New Jersey Nets).

Walker beat out the Houston native, Clyde Drexler, in the finals.

    Great man…athlete…UK Alumnus. Played against him and the fellas back in ‘97 at Worlds Gym back off of Richmond Road…him Woody, Daren, Davender, Bennett, Pelfrey, Brasow…I felt soooo out of place playing with these Legends! SKYWALKER FOR LIFE!!!
