The best players in the NBA last week were former Wildcats. John Wall was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week and Karl-Anthony Towns was named Western Conference Player of the Week.
“I bet you that’s the first time that’s happened,” John Calipari said rather smugly on tonight’s call-in show. You can’t blame him; he’s probably correct. I doubt any other school has had two former players win the NBA weekly awards in the same week.
Wall’s Wizards won four road games, led the conference in scoring (29.8 ppg) and assists (11.3 apg) while adding 3.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals. His most impressive game was a 39-point, 9-assist performance that led his team from down 21 to an overtime win over the Blazers. Towns averaged 29 points and 12.3 rebounds through three games, including a 35-point performance against the Bucks.
