It’s almost time for Boogie and America in the quarterfinals

usa-arg

Team USA will begin its run to the gold medal this evening in the first game of the single-elimination knockout round, against Argentina in the quarterfinals. The Americans ran through group play to win Group A with a 5-0 preliminary record, although the last two wins were only by a single bucket. It has not been the dominant performance fans hoped to see, and expected.

Tonight’s game, set for a 5:45 pm tip on the NBC Sports Network, will be the first of these Olympics between the U.S. and Argentina. Argentina finished fourth with a 3-2 record in Group B with losses to Lithuania and Spain. It is a 23.5-point underdog in this evening’s quarterfinal game.

Basketball fans may notice some familiar names on Argentina’s roster in Luis Scola, Andres Nocioni, Manu Ginobili and Carlos Delfino; all from the NBA. Those four were also on the 2004 Argentina team that upset Carmelo Anthony and Team USA in the semifinals of the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Let’s not let that happen again.

Call me unpatriotic if you want…but I know I am not the only person secretly hoping USA gets smoked. Their isolation-heavy, 3 point street-ball and with no defense style does not bode well for the International game. I think it would be comical if this team with hundreds of millions in salary gets embarrassed.

A bunch of ego punks IMO. (Cousins included)

Someone must have told them to set their egos aside and wipe those chips off their shoulder.
It’s time they listen to their coach and represent the USA.
