The U.S. Open has destroyed Phil Mickelson.

The major tournament is notorious for bringing professionals down to Earth.  The extremely difficult courses make the pros look like Average Joes.  Today Phil Mickelson took that to a new extreme.

The five-tame major champion celebrated his 48th birthday by pulling a stunt you’re used to seeing at Picadome, not at the 13th hole of the U.S. Open.

It wasn’t a “gimme” and it was still moving.  He finished the par four with a score of ten after he was assessed a two-shot penalty, but that penalty is incomparable to the impending lifelong embarrassment.

And there were no politics involved in the making of the above statement. As it should be on Kentucky SPORTS Radio

Lifelong embarrassment? I mean he’d probably take it back but the the over-reactions of ksr writers are clearly on point.

Ok, slow down. All the stuffy old white guys are saying “ embarrassment!” and the “shame”. It’s not as if he threw a tantrum. He was laughing with his playing partner as he walked off the green. If anything, this makes me like him more. He had a very human moment and did nothing a lot us haven’t done. Who cares what the venue is, is still golf.

      Perfectly said

Phil has won enough thru his career and is so filthy rich, he can laugh at this moment.

What was so wrong about what he did? He didn’t hurt anyone but himself. I’m sure he’ll remember this for the rest of his life. Hell I’ve done it a few times myself! (2 stroke penalty?)

THIS, is not golf. The course is a travesty, just as it was in 2004, the last time a US Open was played there. They should just go ahead and put in clown faces and windmills on the greens for the last round.
The game is supposed to be about identifying the best players. On this course, luck plays waaaay to much in the end. The USGA should NEVER hold another Open here.

The players all played the same course right? It shouldn’t matter how the course is.

You call that a green at the U.S. Open?! You want to question Mickelson’s professional? Looks like a professional grounds crew needs to be hired. Why would you award a major tournament to a landfill?

Agree about the course, but Fat Phil embarrassed himself here. Golf prides itself on honesty and integrity. I’ve never seen that stunt in a round at Lakeside, moreless the US Ooen.
