Washington fires Lorenzo Romar; Where will Michael Porter Jr. go?

More coaching moves, this time from the West Coast, where Washington has fired head coach Lorenzo Romar. Romar has been the coach at Washington since 2002, but the last few years have been horrendously bad for the Huskies, who went 9-22 this season despite having the projected number one pick in the draft, Markelle Fultz.

More importantly, one of the top recruits in the 2017 class, Michael Porter Jr., signed with Washington. Not only is Porter’s father on the staff, but his Romar is his godfather. Presumably, Porter Jr., considered by ESPN the best player in the 2017 class, will request a release and look to take his talents elsewhere. Porter’s one heck of a small forward and was at one time a Calipari recruit. Would Calipari go after him? Or, could Porter (and his dad) land at Missouri, which was one of his final five schools and has a new coach in Cuonzo Martin?

Interesting. Very interesting…

I sure wouldn’t mind seeing him come to Kentucky, I wouldn’t be shocked if he stayed West and ended up going to Oklahoma with Trae Young. Either way I think this was a good thing for him, get out of the morass that is Washington Basketball.

I don’t think he did sign his LOI. If he did as this article says Washington should only release him on condition he can’t go to Mizzou. That would be fair, but I don’t think he has signed yet.

Don’t think you can hire the dad the SAME season you get the kid. Isn’t that a new rule? Was thinking Romar hired his dad last season or before the new rule. 1 of the 2

I feel bad for the kid to a point. He has no say in where he can go….just has to go to a school based on who will support his family. Granted this happens all the time in one way or the other, but it’s so transparent in this case. Many, many other kids have it worse, having to drop out or not go to school to support their families, but I still feel a bit bad for him. I mean Mizzou. C’mon, no top player should be stuck in that mess, even if it does have a new coach.
