Kentucky softball moves on to the winner’s bracket of the Lexington Regional of the NCAA Tournament after shutting out DePaul 6-0.
The Cats began their NCAA Tournament one hour and 34 minutes later than scheduled. Instead of the 2:30 p.m. start time, the Cats took the field for a game that started at 4:04 p.m.
The first game between Marshall and Illinois went to 12 innings. Illinois defeated Marshall after scoring on an RBI in the bottom of the 12th inning.
The delayed start had no impact on Kentucky. The Cats started hot and scored five runs in the bottom of the first, which set the tone for the rest of the game.
Kentucky scored again in the bottom of the fifth inning, securing the win.
Kentucky’s Megan Prince pitched six innings, allowing DePaul’s only two hits and striking out five batters.
