The No. 22 Kentucky women’s basketball team defeated the Morehead State Eagles in a decisive 86-53 victory. The Wildcats are now 5-0 on the season.
Maci Morris led the team, finishing the afternoon with 19 points, including five three-pointers. Morris was 7-8 from the field (87.5 percent) and 5-6 from behind-the-arc (83.3 percent). Senior Mackenzie Cann claimed her second consecutive double-double, adding an impressive 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
“Mackenzie has done a nice job of scoring and rebounding, but I thought that her passing was great today,” head coach Matthew Mitchell said after the game. “She is a threat out there on the court.”
Two other Wildcats hit double-digit scoring: junior Amanda Paschal had a career-high 11 points, and sophomore Jaida Roper scored 10 points. Point guard Taylor Murray finished with seven points and six assists, plus this pretty touch pass to No. 12 Paschal.

Kentucky never trailed in the matchup against Morehead State. The Cats held a 26-12 lead after the first quarter, and, despite giving up a 7-0 MSU run late in the second quarter, went into halftime with the 46-27 advantage. After the break, Kentucky cruised to victory, at one point leading by as many as 38 points.
The Wildcats used this massive lead to get some of their new players involved in the action. This year’s bench is much deeper than last year’s, and Kentucky was able to use this to their advantage. Throughout the game, 12 different Wildcats entered the game, and 11 of them scored. UK outscored MSU 33-13 in bench points.
“This was a very important game for us today to be able to get some people in there and get some good game experience,” Mitchell said.
After taking a few days off for the holiday, the Cats will be back in action Sunday at 2 p.m. to take on the Marshall Bison. The game will be held inside Memorial Coliseum, but it can also be seen on the SEC Network+.
