Today on KSR: Yasiel Puig goes out with a bang

© David Kohl | USATSI

No one can accuse Yasiel Puig of being boring. Minutes after news broke that the Cincinnati Reds had traded Puig to the Cleveland Indians for Trevor Bauer, the right fielder took part in a benches-clearing brawl in the Reds’ 11-4 loss to the Pirates.

Tensions had been mounting between the two teams all game — and season, going back to April’s brawl in Pittsburgh — and in the ninth inning, Reds pitcher Amir Garrett had had enough, charging off the mound and throwing a punch at Pirates pitcher Trevor Williams. The benches cleared and the fight was on, with Puig right in the middle:

Multiple players and coaches were ejected, including Puig, who received a standing ovation on his way to the locker room, where he had to pack up his locker.

Pictures and videos of the fight are still going viral this morning. This photo by Sam Greene is an instant classic:

Shannon the Dude added his spin to it:

The cop who calmly walks by is now an internet star:

Goodbye, Yasiel Puig. We’ll always have this memory of you wearing a jersey with no sleeves:

Now on to the rest of today’s news…

Today is the UK Football Kickoff Luncheon

Today, talking season resumes as Mark Stoops, Eddie Gran, and Brad White address fans at the Kickoff Banquet at Kroger Field. Nick Roush will be on hand to pass along any news and enjoy the buffet. Tomorrow, Mitch Barnhart will preview the 2019-20 athletics season. On Friday, things really kick into high gear at Media Day, and on Saturday, fans will get to meet the team and watch them in action at an open practice. By then, camp will officially have begun and we’ll have practice reports to hold us over until football is finally here. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait.

Meet the newcomers on offense

On Monday, UK introduced the new guys on defense; yesterday, it was the offensive rookies’ turn. Get to know quarterbacks Amani Gilmore and Nik Scalzo, tight end Nikolas Ognenovic, offensive tackle Jake Pope, and running back Travis Tisdale:

Kentucky snapping the Florida streak makes an appearance in the latest SEC Short

“SEC Shorts” is a great YouTube series about college football in the South, and Kentucky’s win over Florida gets a mention in the latest episode about a Smack Talking Barbershop Quartet:

Hey now, we’ve got plenty more good players. Also, can we send these guys to a South Carolina fan’s door to sing about the five-game winning streak? Thanks.

I’ll leave you with this picture of a backpack spotted in a Memphis Walmart:

Clearly, someone still gets their UK and KUs mixed up.

Why University of Kansas is called KU is confusing. Maybe because other schools in the area did it that way, Colorado (CU), Oklahoma (OU). Maybe because the school originally was called Kansas State University, and they dropped the S.
Of course, no one was more confused than Adolph Rupp; he played at KU, and coached at UK. LOL.

    Typical Reds. Always trading down

They traded for an all star pitcher to contend next year. Plug was good but in his career he has always been a .250 hitter. Castillo Bauer and gray as starting pitchers in the NL central? Trading down? More like trading up bro.

Doesn’t really matter. Trading up, trading down… It’s still the Reds and they’ll suck either way.

With that attitude it will be lol

      Sell High; buy low?

Oh the Reds…the little brother of the Central.

    Best part is
    You lost that loving feeling
    Playing in the background

I think Puig’s anger problems stem from steroid use, he looks like the epitome of a roid man.

He gained 26 pounds in one off season….shady.
