Today on KSR: UK Basketball Media Day

Chet White | UK Athletics

Kentucky basketball season is here.

All week we’ve been preparing you for the start of the season with preseason player profiles.  Today we’re taking it to another level at UK basketball media day.

KSR is tipping-off media day coverage with two hours of radio LIVE from Memorial Coliseum with Matt Jones, Ryan Lemond and Drew Franklin.  After a brief break, John Calipari will address the media at 1:00 p.m.  From 2:00-3:00 all of the players are free to talk to our trio of correspondents that will be on the floor at the Joe Craft Center.

It will be a busy day at Kentucky Sports Radio dot com, and not just for UK basketball media day.

Jared Casey Decision Day

The four-star linebacker from Louisville will announce his college decision tonight on Twitter at 6:00 p.m. Casey has four finalists — Kentucky, Louisville, Oregon and Wisconsin — but Dave Lackford from Rivals told me this morning on Kentucky Roll Call to scratch UofL off that list.

Vince Marrow was on the ground floor in Casey’s recruitment, putting the Cats in excellent position to reel in the elite in-state prospect.  He took his final official visit last weekend to Wisconsin, but many experts believe the scales are tipping toward Oregon.  Casey told the Courier-Journal his future coaching staff was informed of his decision on Monday.  The rest of the world will know soon enough.

Podcast SZN

The KSR Podcast feed is poppin.  Yesterday we posted a pair of new hits from Hardly Committed and the KSR Football Podcast.  This afternoon The Funkhouser Situation returns to the microphone before Free Money hits the airwaves this evening.  Smash that subscribe button to get each delivered directly to your iPhone.

More Praise for Mark Stoops

Every time I turn around at KSBar, I see Kentucky football on a television screen.  Yesterday the Cats got some airtime on College Football Live.  David Pollack picked Mark Stoops as his midseason coach of the year in college football.  I can’t say I disagree.

This is Weird

LeBron in yellow?  It’s going to take awhile to get used to seeing LeBron James do LeBron James things as a Los Angeles Laker.

Thursday Night Football

Tonight football fans will be treated to an NFC East matchup between the Eagles and the Giants at 8:20 on Fox, the NFL Network and Amazon Prime.  It could be an ugly game.  If you prefer points, the Big XII is here to help.  TCU hosts Texas Tech at 7:30 on ESPN.  Georgia Southern plays at Texas State on ESPNU at 7:30.

Tony Delk will be in the Bluegrass for Big Blue Madness

Wildcat fans are invited to meet UK legend Tony Delk at Your Frame Of Mind Galleries immediately before Big Blue Madness from 5:00 to 6:30 at the Lexington Center Food Court area.  Tony will be signing his new book, “Shooter,” along with several different prints and art posters (package deals are available).  It’s a wonderful chance to meet a true UK legend.

Halloween is (almost) Here

Which means it’s time for my favorite Halloween tradition, the Iroquois Park Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular.  I am always amazed at how they can turn pumpkins into such impressive pieces of art.  The details in each are incredible.  There are a few different themed sections, including one featuring highlights from the state of Kentucky.  Of course, John Calipari’s caricature is scarier than normal.

The pumpkin carvers didn’t need to exaggerate any of Chris Mack’s features to make him look like a Halloween character.

Looks like 5 fingers and no thumb on Cal’s left hand. Has he been tweaking during the off season?

Except for that obvious thumb exactly where you would expect a thumb to be in this pose.

banana that is one tall thumb, which is what Blue is saying. It’s as long as his fingers.

It kinda depends the palm would be slightly turned in and the depth of it being 2D makes it seem as long as the other fingers.

If Jared Casey wants to disappear into obscurity on the west coast, then Oregon is his place. I think he needs to play in the SEC at KY where defensive players have a good track record of going to the NFL.
