Well, that was pretty stupid of Papa John. You’d think someone who manages to make it that rich (on gross pizza) would be smarter.

    1. RealCatsFan

I have a feeling that things were taken a bit out of context – he was at a board meeting and was talking about how PR has changed from the day that Colonel Sanders openly used the N-word. But to publicly say the word was grabbing the third rail of political correctness. Still, I think it is being blown out of proportion – at least he owned up to it instead of lying about it – like most public figures would do.

    2. Realme

Yeah, the stupid thing was thinking HE could say it when talking about the Colonel saying it. I kind of think that if you’re comfortable enough to say it at all, it’s because you’ve done it before.

    3. ClutchCargo

I hadn’t heard what he actually said, RCF, but that makes sense. All the media cares about is blasting out that he said the N word.

    4. runningunnin.454

Is anyone offended by the word “honky”? I never have been, I guess because I don’t know the etymology of the word. Maybe from honky-Tonk, or Hungarian immigrant workers that couldn’t speak English, or white guys that would honk their horns to attract African-American prostitutes.
I always laughed when George Jefferson or Fred Sanford said it.

    5. Realme

Is saying the word not bad enough? I can’t think of a context where he says that word in his capacity at work, especially, and it’s acceptable.

    6. Realme

      RG, that’s not the same.

    7. ClutchCargo

It was obviously a poor choice of words, but saying a word is not the same as using it to demean or insult another person. Context is important, and that hasn’t really been provided for the most part.

    8. RealCatsFan

Realme, I am in total agreement that he should have used the term “N-word”. But still, you can turn on a lot of rap and hip hop songs and hear the word blasted out over and over. I realize that might be construed as a different context, but if the word is offensive, it should be offensive in any setting (outside of literature in a historic context.)

the headlines are attention-seeking but that’s what the media does. the headline has to be the most controversial in order to get attention over other headlines about the same thing. I agree with Real, that’s just a word you don’t say…ever…but especially in a business meeting. If I were hanging with my friends I still wouldn’t say “hey did you know Kernel Sanders used to call black people n_______?” But I’d be more apt to say something stupid like that around friends than in a business meeting. I work for the state, I can’t imagine being in a work meeting and saying “Sanders calls black people n______”…it’s moronic.

    10. Realme

I would expect that black people in that media training session could easily have felt demeaned by his casual use of an ugly word, Clutch.

RCF, just because rappers do a bad thing doesn’t make it acceptable for a white person in a position of power to do it.

    11. J-Dub421

Papa John used that example during a conference call with a PR firm who was trying to teach him to stop putting his foot in his mouth all the time. There’s also more to it than that.

From an article on Deadspin: “In June’s conference call, Papa was asked “how he would distance himself from racist groups online.” (Normal question to ask a pizza man.) Papa replied by complaining that “Colonel Sanders called blacks n——-s”—no one is quite sure where he got this from—and KFC never got in trouble. He also noted, for some reason, that where he grew up people used to kill black people by dragging them behind trucks. (Normal answer from the pizza man.)”

    12. ClutchCargo

Clearly, that PR firm was hired to do an impossible job. LOL

    13. RealCatsFan

J-Dub, that throws new light on it. What an idiot! But I still get quite irritated by some of these “artists” who blare the N-word and the F-word all over the place with immunity.

    14. J-Dub421

Papa John was just trying to justify his crappy behavior.

    15. rickwhitetx

Can I ban all words that are offensive to me? I have a list.

    16. Booby Petrino

rick, you sure can decide whether or not to engage with people who use words that offend you. Let them know your list and if they choose to use them anyway, don’t engage with them. If you have to talk to them for work purposes, make sure to keep the subject about the actual work. You’re welcome.

  2. runningunnin.454

The UL freak show under the big top continues…Ringling Brothers would be so jealous.

    1. Realme

This gift has kept on giving for so many years now.

    2. RealCatsFan

I think this whole thing might blow up in John Morgan’s face. Morgan and Morgan obviously took this case for the publicity, but it is liable to make them look like such amazing idiots that their business might actually take a hit.

    3. Realme

Yep, I no longer plan to call Morgan and Morgan next time I slip and fall at Walmart.

    4. 4everUKblue

There are other ambulance chasers available….Cal the Hammer!

    5. ClutchCargo

This would be the perfect case for Saul Goodman.

    6. J-Dub421

John Morgan spent most of the press conference stream of consciousness ranting about one-and-dones being exploited and ranting against the evils of the NCAA. He barely talked about the case at all. He also clearly doesn’t know that the one-and-done rule is an NBA rule which made him look like an ill prepared buffon. U of L admitted the hooker parties happened in their NCAA appeal. Their argument was “the hookers were cheap and we didn’t spend that much money, so we shouldn’t get in trouble.” Hancock and company have no case.

    7. RealCatsFan

What a downfall from “the Year of the Cardinal”. 🙂

    8. J-Dub421

*Buffoon. Man, I’m tired today. Is it Friday yet?

  3. 4everUKblue

    *call not cal

  4. RealCatsFan

Ha! Expecting Dan Dakich to not troll UK fans is like expecting Trump (or Hillary) to not lie. 😀

    1. Realme

I think he’s an excellent analyst. Easy enough to avoid him when he’s not calling a game and decides to go trolling.

    2. ClutchCargo

Dakich is one of the best when he sticks to the game. That makes me ignore the trolling, because he’s obviously just having some fun with people who take themselves a little too seriously.

    3. runningunnin.454

Nah, Clutch. When a mens’ national basketball analyst trolls the UK Womens’ Basketball Team, it’s not having fun…it’s a mean streak; totally uncalled for.

    4. ClutchCargo

I have no idea what he said about the womens’ team. Was that on Twitter or something? Like I said, I ignore trolling for the most part. Getting off antisocial media makes it a lot easier. 🙂

  5. J-Dub421

Cal said Jemarl Baker has been out injured and had some catching up to do. That makes perfect sense.

    1. RealCatsFan

Oh wow, you scared me for a minute there – I thought you were saying that he had re-injured his knee!

    2. Realme

Yeah, he did answer that question.

    3. runningunnin.454

Baker looked pretty good in the Cats contest with Rex; he’s obviously a knock down shooter.
I think we all are hoping to see what he can do in a game.

    4. J-Dub421

I think Cal was making sure not to put too much pressure on Baker, and to allow him to get his timing and fitness back.

  6. Realme

Ha ha ha ha ha. “If you get a joint facebook account, you’re fired.” I’m not on FB any more, but that is a weird phenomenon.

    1. J-Dub421

Yeah, I don’t feel the need to have joint social media accounts. You don’t suddenly cease to be an individual just because you get married.

  7. J-Dub421

Romeo Langford couldn’t crack UK’s starting line up this season.

  8. J-Dub421

Ugh. Ryan, instead of apologizing in advance for your sons crappy behavior that will annoy your neighbors, maybe you should just make your sons stop said crappy behavior. You know, parenting.

    1. Realme

From all the periscopes and stories, they seem like a wonderful family. A wonderful family I am glad not to live on the same street with.

    2. J-Dub421

I haven’t seen their periscopes. However Ryan said his sons play loud music and basketball at all hours, and walk through people’s yards. Tell them to stop doing those things. None of those are particularly bad, or criminal offences, but they are easily stopped if you know they’re going to annoy your neighbors.

    3. Realme

You’re totally right, but I think the fact that 2 of their boys are adopted out of foster care might be making them go a little easier on minor bad behaviors. Just speculation on my part.

  9. BluKudzu

So is Papa John a “Louisville Man” as described by that reading of some person’s infatuation of the U of L, done by Matt?

  10. RealCatsFan

Oh wow, it is killing me to hear them talking about going to Lake Cumberland. Has probably been 6 years since I was last down there. Sure do miss it. I think I heard my boat whimpering at me when I was out in the garage the other night.

  11. RealCatsFan

I am a redneck so I enjoy most kinds of auto racing, but there is no friggin’ way that I would want to sit in those concrete bleachers with the sun beating down on me in 98* heat. Mrs. RCF and my older daughter are both going to Forecastle this weekend, and there is no way I would want to sit out there in that mob in the heat either. I must be getting old…

    1. Realme

Sounds like you and the other daughter(s) need to slip on over to Lake Cumberland. 😉

    2. RealCatsFan

Gotta get the boat seaworthy first, and life just keeps getting in the way. 🙁

  12. Realme

    Poor Ryan.

  13. bd2153

Only bad when whites say it. Blacks say it all the time on tv, the court, field, life. Let’s not forget about the black comedians. Beat they don’t down free pizza from the papa.
