Thon Maker considering a jump to the 2015 class

247Sports

As if the 2015 class didn’t already have its share of elite big men, Thon Maker is considering adding his name to the list. Maker’s guardian, Ed Smith, told Evan Daniels there is a possibility of reclassifying if he can gain weight.

Smith told ZagsBlog, ““I will monitor Thon’s progress academically and physically. Thon would also like to become more involved with the Australian Junior and Senior National program under coach Lemanis. Playing in the U19 World Championships is something that is important to Thon.”

Maker is the second-ranked power forward in the 2016 class, behind No. 1 overall player Harry Giles. He currently has offers from Arizona, Louisville, Georgetown, and Memphis with interest from Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, North Carolina and Ohio State.

We saw him in the layup line at the Peach Jam last summer and decided he is the best player in the history of basketball.

    Better offer him

  2. Jason

THIS KID IS THE NEXT GARNETT. SIGN HIM NOW!

  3. Landfill

We should put him on our team.

  4. JHK

He has loads of potential. Could have a good college season like Embiid or (best case scenario) AD.

With all the bigs UK already has on the roster, plus all the targets in the 2015 class, I don’t think they are going to go hard after the package deal of Newman and Stone. Stone doesn’t seem to fit on UK’s big board.

OMG i got a crush!!! my pants are wet!

I usually don’t get too excited about a guy based on a highlight video but why is this guy not the top rated player in his class?

  7. Han

So in addition to Matthews and whoever returns from this coming year, we’re looking at: Stone and Newman, Maker, Diallo, Bragg, Brown, Zimmerman, and a few others all in the top 25.

I know interest in some will decline as it becomes evident we’ll return a lot of talent at their position or as another school recruits them harder, but wow.

  8. Nashvillecatsfan

Just looked up his stats. He can’t shoot the three, but still pretty impressive.

  9. DFW Cat

His Nickname needs to be, Thon “the difference” Maker

  10. Brandon

I can only imagine some of te impressive t shirt slogans Kentucky fans would come up with if we could get this guy

  11. Andrew

Yupp, we need to get this kid an offer.

  12. JPL

With a name like Maker (Mark) he has to come to Kentucky.

  13. Dan

I’m sure he’ll develop into an amazing player at the University of Kansas.

  14. Justin

Wow! Impressive. This kid has the makings of the next Kevin Garnett.

  15. blake

He looks like a mixture of AD and Tyler ulis

  16. Jordan Frith

We need this kid at Louisville! Would be a HUGE pick up. #CardNation

  17. JEREMY MILBURN

THIS KID LOOKS LIKE KEVIN DURANT WITH KG AND LEBRON ALL IN ONE!!! I MUST SAY IF HE KEEPS PROGRESSING AND GETTING STRONGER HE COULD BE ONE OF THE TOP 10 PLAYERS EVER TO PLAY THE GAME!!! IF HE ADDS MORE WEIGHT AND HIS GAME TRANSLATES TO THE PROS IM SAYN IT NOW TOP 10 PLAYER IN THE NBA WHEN HE STEPS FOOT ON THE COURT BEFORE HE EVEN PLAYS A GAME!!!

Forget UK for this young man. He needs playing time, experience and muscle mass. Michigan State and Tom IZZO is perfect fit. IZZO developed Adreian Payne into a high NBA draft pick over 4 years. He would get personal attention in a family atmosphere that he can’t get at UK with their herd of All American 7 feet tall centers. Think long term for this young man’s best interests please.

Looks like it’s UK. That is what would be the best for him. He wouldn’t be around long enough for Izzo to make much difference in his game. Payne was a 4 year project. Coach Cal can do more with this kid in a year or two than anyone.

  20. HORNET1

What a cool name AND he’s a playah.

    Sign him up !!!

  21. Doctor Ed

He will develop well at any of a dozen schools, but among the list in this article who has a warm winter without cold and or snow? Arizona. But is gets too, too hot there. Might you go West young man? Is there a good fit for you with great strength and conditioning coaching, Mediterranean climate all year, and a style of play with running and team assist play, not just standing around in the low post. What school am I talking about? UCLA.

  22. michael sowash

not taking any thing away from the kid. ive saw him play twice this yr. right now they would eat him up in college. takes the ball low everytime he touches it, not quick, just not ready for a big conference. maybe he could play in ovc. sorry just cant see it

  23. Jay

The Cavs will draft him with the first overall pick in three years.

  24. Jason M.

He already has a nickname, Thon “the highlight” Maker… but i like difference maker also. And I agree, he’s not a 4 year player anywhere he goes.. NBA would scoop him up just on potential alone.. He get could as many minutes as Orton and still be a top 10 pick.

  25. Dr, Ralph Johnson

A point center, fits perfectly into the Kentucky scheme!
