Stanley Johnson cuts his list down to five schools

One of the top players on Kentucky’s recruiting big board trimmed his list down to five schools this morning. Stanley Johnson, a top five talent in the 2014 class, is down to Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Oregon and USC. Kansas and UCLA were removed from consideration.

John Calipari visited Johnson in his California home last Thursday. The top-ranked small forward plans to take an official visit to Lexington for Big Blue Madness next month.

Cats.

Next year’s team could be much better than people think if only one of Young / Poythress and one of Johnson / Cauley-Stein stays.

Add Stanley Johnson and Trey Lyles and you are loaded. Ullis / Hawkins may not sound like much but it could be a fine fine PG rotation between these 2.

Just because 2 players are listed as point guard on the depth chart doesn’t mean they are first and second in terms of point guard minutes. Yes it could be the case. However, as Cal has shown with Teague and Lamb, and as he’ll show this year with the twins, the class of 2014 may have Ulis running the pg and Blackmon getting minutes at the 1 and 2. If Hawkins can play he’ll get minutes obviously.

He dropped Kansas, hum, looks like that may open the possibility for Alexander and Jayquan Lyle to package the deal for the Jayhawks?

  4. UK

    3) Lyle is a PG and Alexander is a PF. Doesn’t really affect him there. Kelly Oubre is a SF and a heavy Kansas lean and that’s probably why he eliminated them.

Either way Kansas is about to have a heck of a class in 2014…but then again so will we.

Here is what I think our next season’s roster ends up looking like. This seems to be the guys we are becoming most comfortable with. Myles Turner might end up in the mix as well.

Hawkins – PG, JaQuan Lyles – PG, Ulis – PG, Blackmon Jr – SG, Devon Booker – SG, Stanley Johnson – SF, Lee – PF, Willis – PF, Trey Lyles – PF, Karl Towns – C/PF, Cliff Alexander – C.

I think J. Lyles, Blackmon, and Alexander want to play together. Johnson is really down to us and AZ unless things change big time. I will be surprised if Booker and T. Lyles go anywhere else. We already have Ulis and Towns committed. I think Lee comes back next season along with Hawkins and Willis. Turner is on the fence at the moment and I think he is waiting to see what Alexander does.

ATB (Always True Blue): keep dreaming buddy. I wish but Lyles and Alexander are going to Kansas. Not sure how much more obvious it can be. We are already set at PG with Ullis; the kid is sick!

  7. Jordan

So next year our guards are Ulis, Booker and Blackmon Jr? ugh.

  8. Jordan

Hey Jordan: Ulis, Booker, and Blackmon Jr is “ugh” – you are clueless bro! What is wrong with you (besides stupid and spoiled)???

  10. Jon

    Jordan has mental disabilities!

  11. Only can hope

I sure hope John groce at Illinois can get Alexander and Lyle to go with snider and leron black. I would much rather see them go there then Kansas

  12. cracka

atb, i’ll play this game (incredibly early and just complete guesses):

    5 m turner, m lee
    4 k towns, d willis
    3 s johnson, j winslow
    2 d booker, j blackmon
    1 t ulis, d hawkins

  13. Jeff

Cracka: Johnson and Winslow both at SF would be ridiculous/awesome but I don’t see them choosing the same school…

  14. UK

Not to mention you forgot Trey Lyles who is coming to Kentucky…

  15. cracka

yeah, lyles … matty jones seems pretty confident there, let’s just put willis on the bench and put lyles in for him … as far as johnson and winslow, they want to play together

  16. aflashinthepants

jaquan lyle & cliff alexander at uk next year. make book

  17. Mc

    I’ll try too.
    5) Towns, M. Lee, Lyles
    4) Lyles, M. Lee, Towns Willis
    3) Johnson, Booker
    2) Booker, Blackmon
    1) Ulis, Blackmon, Hawkins

Towns, Lyles and Lee interchangeable at 4 and 5. Hope to land another solid player for this class: Turner, Winslow, Vaughn, Exum, or split up the Okafor package deal and bring him in. Good time to be a UK fan for sure.

  18. Blue in FLA

Opinions are like…Well here is mine..Opinion that is…

    5) Towns, Johnson
    4) Lyles, Towns, Johnson, Lee, Willis
    3) Young, Johnson
    2) Booker, Blackmon, Young
    1) Ulis, Blackmon, Hawkins

I believe Johnson, Young and Lee play a second year…

Incoming Towns, Trey Lyles, Stanley Johnson and/or Justice Winslow, Blackmon, Ulis …

    Predictions

    1) I believe Young becomes the clear super star of this second year group…Goes top 5…
    2) I believe they lose late in the tourney Elite 8 or Final 4…
    3) I believe Johnson and Towns play together often..
    4) I believe that Duke and Kansas both have a legit shot at #1 recruiting class in 2014 despite our Haul…
    5) I believe our recruiting class in 2015 will be better than 2014…Ulis might get “recruited over” but will make some bigger guard wish he had picked a different school…
    6) I might be totally full of crap

  19. Delk for 3

This is the one I want. He looks to me to be the best player in the entire class.

  20. GatorParty

Stanley is going to choose the Florida Gators!

  21. Michael lang

KENTUCKY IS GREAT POSITION TO GET A ANOTHER TOP RECRUITING CLASS.I BELIEVE THEY WILL GET STANLEY JOHNSON AND TREY LYLES,BUT DONT CANT ON GETTING OKAFOR BEING A WILDCAT.BLACKMAN MIGHT DEPEND ON WHO LEAVE. I DONT REALLY SEE BLACKMON AS A WILDCAT I THINK HE WILL GET MORE SHOTS AT UNC.IF THEY GET WINSLOW THEN THEY WILL HAVE THE BEST CLASS AGAIN.
