SOURCE: John Calipari will visit 2020 No. 2 prospect Cade Cunningham today

(Catalina Fragoso-USA TODAY Sports)

Kentucky head coach John Calipari will be in to see his top guard target in the class of 2020.

Sources told KSR this morning that Calipari will visit 2020 No. 2 prospect Cade Cunningham today, with the 6-foot-7, 215-pound confirming the news to KSR not long after.

Cunningham, the consensus No. 2 prospect in the nation and top overall guard, is scheduled to take his official visit to Lexington this weekend for Big Blue Madness.

This morning in my Pilgrim’s Insider Notes post, I wrote that immediately following 2021 five-star guard Devin Askew’s official visit this past weekend, the UK coaching staff turned its attention to preparing for Cunningham’s upcoming trip to Lexington.

Sources tell KSR that Kentucky is recruiting both Cunningham and Askew for the class of 2020, and there is a puncher’s chance of that scenario coming to fruition. I am told that as soon as Askew’s official visit wrapped up in Lexington, the staff’s recruiting focus shifted entirely to Cunningham’s official visit scheduled for this weekend.

“Next week is the big one,” one source close to the situation told KSR. “[They are] not playing around, going for the kill.”

Cunningham has taken three official visits thus far to Oklahoma State, North Carolina, and Florida, with a trip to Washington also scheduled for Oct. 18 after the five-star guard wraps up his visit to Lexington.

Oklahoma State has long been seen as the runaway favorite to land the Arlington, TX native, though North Carolina and Kentucky have picked up serious momentum in recent weeks.

Man, 2020 is brewing into a special class. Calipari is rejuvenated, people have kind of shut up about how Cal has lost his edge and I love listening to them eat crow

Cal finally learned from his own mistakes. He learned he has to get in on these kids sooner and he has definitely been doing that. Plus, it helps all the REAL cheaters are bein busted. I’m very curious to see if Wiggins ends up being named in the Kansas mess.

It seems that Askew is ready to commit. Maybe Cal is going to tell Cunningham “ we need a yes or no quickly. I just can’t imagine both of these guys on the same team, but only Cal could pull that off.
Maybe Askew stays in 2021 if Cal successfully convinces Cunningham ?

I think Cal has always done that Lville. I think it is purely due to what you cite in your 3rd sentence. See maximumscott’s comment below.

    4. BBNnCLE

Agree with gettelfinger. Cal never lost his mojo, he just didn’t stoop to the same level as Self and, though they’ll never try to bring him down, Coach K.

Agreed bbn in cle. Kansas I believe is the big fish the NCAA is going to offer up to satisfy the masses that they aren’t afraid to go after a “big school.” If all eyes are on Lawrence, KS, they won’t be looking at Durham or Chapel Hill NC!

Chris, no he typically didnt. He would wait until the summer before their senior seasons and then think the UK name was enough. There were some special players he would get on early, but not like he is now.

Stay on him Cal, bring him home to BBN!

Its funny once money started to flow Duke and Kansas started getting more recruits… then this stuff explodes and now UK is getting them once again. More proof why Cal wasnt getting them from 2015-2019 more often. He wasnt paying them and if they were asking he cooled off on them

    1. Alex90

Duke has 5 commits next year already

    2. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

However Alex, you can’t deny that Cal is again getting higher ranked recruits overall than he has the last couple years or so. As max indicates, I don’t think that’s a coinkydinky.

    3. BBNnCLE

What’s your point, Alex? Other than Johnson, their commits are the guys Cal has been “relegated” to in recent years. And if recent history repeats itself, K won’t do anything close to what Cal has done with those guys.

    4. 4everUKblue

Alex K , according to ESPN had the greatest recruiting class led by the greatest recruit in NCAA history last season. How did that turn out? If not for the refs’ love affair with Zion they would have lost to UCF.

    5. Cletis75

Alex, they have 5 top 50 recruits signed for next year, not 4 or 5 top 20 recruits. Do you not see the difference between the two?

And Cal has Clarke and Boston. Ware and Fletcher are just bodies for what needs to be a huge class. Turning down Isaiah Todd will be hurtful, because even if they get Jackson AND Omoruyi, those guys are just dudes too. CATS

    1. StuckinLville

Cal never recruits just bodies. He obviously believes they will fit in with his system.

  5. Cletis75

I want Cade and Devin! I loved the Wall/Bledsoe duo!

    Cade the best
