Scott County Flexes en route to the KHSAA State Title Game

It’s official. The state title most people predicted will come to fruition tomorrow when Scott County takes on Trinity after the Cardinals beat Warren Central 70-52.

This one was honestly over from the tip. Scott County got the first bucket 14 seconds into the game and never looked back, jumping out to a 17-point lead in the first half and never surrendering the lead to the Dragons.

Scott County was backed by the big three of Michael Moreno, Glenn Covington, and Diablo Stewart who combined for 56 of Scott County’s 70 points.

Moreno finished with a double-double raking in a whopping 25 points and ten boards. Covington went for eight rebounds.

The state final will take place tomorrow at 2:00 pm in Rupp Arena between Scott County and Trinity. I will bring you coverage from the championship game tomorrow afternoon.

    Powerful team Scott has.

Should be. They recruit more blue chippers than the Cats do!

In MY opinion, The sweet sixteen has lost it’s magic now that so many schools recruit kids. It’s more like a small college tourney than a HS event. It’s truly amazing to listen to some of the stories how certain kids from other areas of the state end up at different schools. Yeah, the level of play is better to watch (most of the time), but the cost of that is it sometimes robs some honest school/community that has a small group of good athletes once every 10 years. Their cinderella story gets squashed before it has a chance. Not crying sour grapes, nor am I directing this at either of these two schools. I don’t even have a school involved in the sweet 16. Just a fan making an informed observation and voicing an opinion about the state of the game right now.

      You’re spot on with that.

Should be two tournaments one for private schools and one for public.

It is precisely this obvious mismatch of school size, talent, and community that makes the Sweet 16 so compelling. That David vs Goliath stuff of Hoosiers fame.

      KHSAA has failed us.

Trinity on the cusp of its first basketball title……while the school has dominated the Kentucky football scene for decades they have never won basketball….that changes about 3:30 today. Rocks by 10.

      They won state in 2012

Really ?? I have lived out of state for so long I missed that.

Scott County—this championship is bought and paid for you by players that don’t even live in the county they represent!!

The big question is that when the new high school opens up and Scott county will be divided like Jessamine county, will they steer all the recruiting to one high school?

  7. hal9944

They dont call them the Toyota Cardinals for nothing. They more or less recruit the parents with jobs.

You people do realize that Warren Central had seven transfers on their team while Scott County had their four best players playing together since about fifth grade. By the way kids should be able to go play where they want to. Why hold them back? To please some old dudes that want it the same as the old days?

  9. UK Big Board Update

Looks like the haters are still mad that the Scott County Cardinals beat the Cov Catholic MAGA hats. Lol.

Yes trinity won in 12 and two of their big guns were recruited out of Shelby county Darryl Hicks and miles rice . My son played on same west middle team . I was at game when sabo trinities coach has his arm around both of those kids after a middle school game . Both ended up at trinity and were anchors on that championship team . I saw it first hand .. so yes Scott recruits but probably not as much as trinity
