Saturday Morning Links

Saint Marys Vanderbilt Basketball
An entire student section of C-3POs…. At least it’s not Jar Jar Binks?

Our buddy Jerry Tipton discusses how Cal wants his team to do more in transition, taking advantage of their athleticism, and scoring on the fastbreak. Dominique Hawkins said, “That’s the first thing we do in practice. We do scripted transition things. We push the ball and see how fast we can score.”

Kentucky small forward prospect Montaque Gill-Caesar, a top-25 junior out of Huntington Prep, is in Paducah this weekend. He “talked” Orlando Antigua and his basketball future–particularly his thoughts on potentially making the early leap to college in 2014.

I’m sure you remember Dorial Green-Beckham, the 6-foot-6 Missouri wide receiver who lit up the scoreboard with 4 touchdown catches against the Cats. Well he’s in the Green County jail (Springfield, MO) after being booked on suspicion of felony drug possession. It is his second drug-related arrest. Rumors are also milling about online that he was booked, then released and not charged. I will be checking Twitter for more reliable information as it becomes available.

The Commonwealth has been making an unusual volume of football headlines for January–strange right? Eric Crawford was in Bowling Green taking in the former Louisville quarterback, and “brother of another,” Jeff Brohm’s coronation as Western Kentucky’s new coach. The Hilltopper OC turned head coach was there with many of his family members to celebrate the big day.

Vanderbilt football coach, James Franklin, seems to “officially” be the head football coach at Penn State (finally.) Check out the Penn State football Twitter page. He has reportedly signed a 6-year contract at more than $4.5 million a year. Interestingly, Vandy fans have rallied outside the football offices as Franklin meets with his team to show support for the Commodore players. As Tyler stated on Twitter–it’s further proof that Franklin has changed the mentality in Nashville.

Check out Gregg Doyel’s thoughts on Lane Kiffin getting the OC position at Alabama. He’s not pleased.

And don’t forget to head to Corner Pub Midtown if you’re in Nashville for the KSR pre and post game parties. Doors open at 10:30 a.m.

Hahaha; that is hilarious: “…checking Twitter for more reliable information..”

An oxymoron if there ever was one.

I find it hard to believe an athlete in the SEC would use drugs, this can not be so.

Congrats to Brohm. I hope he does well at WKU.

Brohm was an asst coach at Western for 1 year, not 2 years. So, you think he was the reason that Western won when he was not on their coaching staff? YOU ARE AN IDIOT! UL should have hired him instead of Petrino, right? No division 1 school would consider hiring him as a head coach, except Western.FU
