Romeo Langford Cuts Kentucky

New Albany, Indiana superstar shooting guard Romeo Langford has trimmed his list of finalists to three and John Calipari’s Kentucky Wildcats did not make the cut.

Langford announced on Twitter his final three schools: Indiana, Kansas and Vanderbilt.

Kentucky was one of Langford’s seven finalists, but it should be no surprise the Cats are now out of the picture.  The nation’s No. 1 shooting guard played for John Calipari in Egypt as a member of Team USA, but only played sparingly during the ten-day tournament.  After that trip, it was hard to foresee Langford attending college in Lexington.

Instead of looking local for a shooting guard, Calipari is targeting Keldon Johnson, who will make his decision tonight, and Tyler Herro, who is currently in Lexington on an official visit.

Didn’t even know UK was still on his list. Hard to figure why UK was never a true contender for him??

I think he was a UL fan; but, for some reason I guess that began to look kind of bleak.

The kid is good but not sure his game has really improved all that much. Maybe he will get better but if he goes to Kansas or realy any school on his list I’d bet he is there for at least 3 years.

#1 SG Romeo Langford – Not UK
#1 SF RJ Barret – Duke
#2 SF Cam Reddish – Duke
#1 PG Tre Jones – Duke

Thanks for the opportunity to have some of your scraps Duke.
In Cal I trust but WTF is going on?!

Cal is still getting a top 2 recruiting class every year. Y’all have got to chill out

I trust Cal! His players are with quality kids who play hard and are unselfish. Cal’s teams are fun to watch, fun to root for, and they win their fair share of games. Haters gonna hate, but I ain’t one.

I’m far from an expert in recruiting, but while I’m at it:
    2017 (Current Freshman Class)

#1 PG Trevon Duval – Duke
#1 SG Gary Trent Jr. – Duke
#1 PF Wendell Carter – Duke
#2 PF Marvin Bayley III – Duke

What we used to be hated for, we’re now the chump at our own game.
I know Duke’s “whatever that was” compared to BBM was a joke and I watch the NBA Draft these days as if it were a UK game in late March based off believing it’s an ingredient in Cal’s recruiting.
Fact is, Drake and lottery picks ain’t cuttin’ it anymore.
Somebody please shed some light for me.

Some of it probably has to do with kids who don’t want to share the spotlight with their teammates. Other parts have to do with Cal taking a different approach to recruiting teams instead of players. Other parts still have to do with Cal trusting his own eyes and not necessarily caring about who the various recruiting services say is #1. All in all, I’d rather have a team with the right chemistry to play at a high level together rather than a bunch of extremely talented individual players

As much as I hate it, duke is definitely in control of recruiting as of late. Cal still gets his 4 or 5 top 30 guys every year but K is getting the truly elite. And that bites!!!

This is no surprise, our backcourt is going to be loaded next year. Only 1 and done I see is Knox and Richards maybe. Don’t think we going to get many big recruits in 2018 class. It wouldn’t surprise me if one of our players would transfer also.

If we don’t get Zion I’ll start to wonder a bit what’s happened. Not quite sure what the deal is but Duke does seem to be loading up on the top notch guys the past few years. I still think this team will be a quality team at the end of the year. I know it’s extremely early and I hope that I’m bad wrong but I don’t think we have a chance at 9 this year. Now if we can return some of these guys and combine them with a top notch class next year…watch out!

Has there been a single recruiting instance where Cal coaching Team USA has helped us? Every story is about how he is losing players because he didn’t select them (whether or not it was Cal’s decision) or didn’t play them very much.

    1. IAmTheDanger

I’ve thought about that too. Quickley is the only one that I can think of….so far anyway.

  7. MadHatter

Pretty sure U.K. trimmed him from its list
