Rick Pitino: UofL board “killed my dreams,” sabotaged NCAA appeal

Just when you thought Rick Pitino couldn’t sound more unhinged, here came today’s interview on the Terry Meiners Show.

During the 30-minute interview, Pitino rambled about how Tom Jurich is the greatest thing since sliced bread and how the UofL board — NOT Greg Postel, whom he claims to have never met — sabotaged the university by firing him in “a witch hunt of epic proportions.” Pitino claims that the board, specifically chairman David Grissom (whom he says is NOT a UofL fan, but instead a Centre College booster), “sabotaged” the university’s NCAA appeal by firing Jurich.

“This is a blueprint of how not to deal with the NCAA and the community in what you’re doing with an extremely popular athletic director who’s done so much,” Pitino said. “The people behind this aren’t Louisville fans.”

Pitino once again, despite scandal after scandal, insisted that UofL has a “highly compliant” athletic department, but it’s all for naught now that the board removed Jurich.

“It hurts us going forward with our appeal. I guess I should stop saying us,” he added, one of many times during the interview he used that line.

Pitino recalled a meeting with the board about a month ago, and how shocked he was by the chilly reception he received.

“They were totally against me. I felt it,” Pitino said of the board. “They rushed to judgment. They killed my dreams. They killed some of the players’ dreams, who wanted to play for me. They killed one of the top recruiting classes in this history of my tenure without any facts of what was going on.”

Poor guy. I can’t imagine going through life being victimize so many times by so many evil people, all while being paid a pittance.

  2. Han

Hey Rick, that top recruiting class included a player who was paid to attend your school.

And if the program was so compliant, how did your assistants mastermind two different major violation scandals, all without you or your buddy Jurich knowing? Guess your heads were just up there in the clouds with your innocent dreams.

He and Jurich truly do think they are/were UofL and only they know what is right. It’s amazing how delusional they (and their fans) are.

You can’t make this stuff up…this is some funny stuff. I’m gonna miss Cal owning his ass!

    1. ClutchCargo

Cal will forever more own Coach 2’s sorry ass!

    2. ukjaybrat

i was still secretly (not really) hoping that the rumors of someone on the 2016-17 team was ineligible due to the Adidas scandal too so that rick would go back to 0-8 against cal. but that just seems like someone’s wishful thinking than any real substantial rumors. alas.

  4. rickpitinoisavampire

Am I the only screaming at the radio “you’re on probation ” every time he said compliant?

      ***raises hand***

    2. slangterm

He still has a game suspension he hasn’t served

    3. ClutchCargo

^ The NCAA should just take 1 off his all-time win total and call it even.

    4. slangterm

It’s multiple games. I don’t remember how many.

    Mrs. TT,
Your word “unhinged” is being kind. Rick is all in on the BOT conspiracy theory. His tirade was nothing short of delusion and lawyer-speak. He doesn’t realize he just made it worse by inciting the fan base. I expect torches and pitchforks outside the next U of L BOT meeting. Great for KSR though! Incredible.

I was truly afraid all this would die down, and we would have nothing else to make fun of at da ville. Three Stacks and Tommy Turtleneck are going to keep us in material for a long, long time.

It’s like everyone (formerly) at Louisville is allergic to reality

    1. 4everUKblue

Could be the start of Not Reality TV. Would be very entertaining.

  7. Rixter

At some point in the future, Terry Meiners should cut his Rick Pitino interviews back from every other day to once a week.

  8. Rixter

Now you know how he passed a lie detector test: he believes every word he says. He played no part in this, it”s all on the board. They were against him.

  9. Blue Bill

Wow, he is officially certifiably insane!! An extremely ethical and compliant program?? Really?? The program is a laughingstock to the entire Nation!

That interview was laughable and made himself doubt ignorant. He needs to crawl back under his rock and Google the words “compliant” and “ethical”. I don’t think they mean what he thinks they mean. He painted the picture of a University that revolved around athletics and not the other way around. Good riddance to bad garbage!

      *look ignorant… like my autocorrect.

  11. bpisforuk

He is actually delusional. He believes they’ve done nothing wrong and these non Lousiville fans are somehow tearing apart the athletics department. Like the board should have zero to do with overseeing any facet to the the University’s sports programs or its personnel. Doesn’t he remember the reason he got hired at UK.

    1. bigb

His total avoidance of responsibility is amazing. Just because his guys weren’t indicted or arrested proves innocence in his mind. Never mind the strippers or paid recruits, no arrests prove compliance?

    2. UKinIN

Pitino kept harping that he and his staff have not been indicted or arrested. The FBI arrested the four guys they wanted! You and your assistants are only guilty of repeatedly breaking NCAA rules, Rick!

  13. BigBlueSkyDog

Dude is absolutely bat shit crazy.

  14. tomato picker

I do not understand why jurich gets credit for all of his and pitino”s great things they done! They cheated in the two NCAA violations, WE KNOW ABOUT, there may be more yet to come. Yet the news media suggest they are innocent and they should keep their jobs even the majority of ul fans say this! A lot of the blame for their mess should be on the shoulders of channel 32, 11, 41, 3 and of course the cardinal journal (courier ). They are like the three monkeys see no evil – speak no evil- hear no evil, they did no digging, ask no questions because ul was winning!! Ramsey taking money from donors putting it his investments, the sweet heart deal ul got in the yum center! CORRUPTION from top to bottom!!

Can you say: “Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton Clone”. It is always someone else’s fault and/or a big conspiracy!

    1. classof68

I was about to say Rick and Hillary ought to get a room together. It does seem to be the MO for all liberals and many Dems these days, doesn’t it?

    2. chimichanga

Pitino is like Hillary multiplied by Trump.

  16. ClutchCargo

The best thing Terry Meiners could do for his “friend” is to stop shoving a microphone in his face every couple of days.

  17. BigBlueBass

Maybe Rick will pay $2.99 a month for no pop up ads..
