Rick Pitino officially out at Louisville; vote was unanimous

After almost six hours in session and a ridiculous 50-page defense from Pitino’s lawyers, the UofL Athletics Association Board just announced they have terminated Rick Pitino’s contract, meaning he is officially out after a 16-year career as Louisville’s head coach.

“After proper notice and an opportunity to be heard, the University of Louisville Athletics Association has voted to terminate Rick Pitino with just cause,” the board announced.

The vote was unanimous. He gone.

    And jurich?

    1. secrick

He’s still begging for his job.

    2. BobKYCats

I believe that meeting is Wednesday.

  4. Booby Petrino

But but but…he passed a lie detector!
    Boy, bye!

    1. KYcats11

      I hope that’s sarcasm. Surely.

    2. Booby Petrino

your feelings still hurt that not everyone got your joke? Cheer up, buddy! I was talking to the other two people who clearly didn’t get your joke when I said that.

    3. KYcats11

Oh I was just messing around , buddy. No hurt feelings.

    4. Mathlete

      How I read this comment/reply thread…

  5. KYcats11

I can’t believe it!!!! (Sarcasm*) just in case I didn’t make myself clear enough.

Petino should just forget any additional legal shenanigans, and cool it for a year in Florida. He probably could get an analysts job on TV. Any further nonsense, and he would throw that away as well.

    1. ClutchCargo

His enormous ego would never allow him to do that. That would be too much like admitting admitting defeat. Kind of like him not being able to handle sticking around until the end of a losing game and exiting the arena with some class.

  7. BBNDave73

No more Slick Rick 🙁 Beating Louisville won’t be as sweet…

    1. runningunnin.454

Now that’s a fact….like when Bubby left IU.

    2. ClutchCargo

I don’t know, beating U6 has always been pretty damned sweet to me. But yeah, beating them with Coach 2 was the cherry on top of the sundae.

  8. Catlogic15

He’ll fight the “just cause” to go after that $44 million. You can bet on that.

    1. wesmorgan1

Yep – Postel acknowledged that Pitino may sue for breach of contract.

If there’s one guy I feel sorry for in all of this, it’s Postel. He came in as interim President to clean up after Ramsey, and has done a whale of of job on the academic/operational side of the University. Of the nine issues cited by SACS when they put UL’s accreditation on probation, he has dealt with five of them (the General Assembly dealt with two of them) in less than a year…only to have this sandbag fall on his head.

I met him last year, when my daughter was named Ms. Cardinal; it was a brief, but genuine encounter, and he seemed like a straight-up type of person. He doesn’t deserve this mess.

    2. 4everUKblue

Just cause he’s a scum bag!

  9. Realme

First wise thing anyone in charge at Louisville has done in many many years.

  10. BobKYCats

I almost wonder if Pitino has early-onset dementia or something. Everybody except him seems to get the idea here: It’s not that he did or didn’t know, it’s that he did or didn’t know AGAIN.

But, if I had $44 million on the line, I’d probably fight too.

Exactly! First time, shame on you… Second time…

  11. shelby

If they’re dumb enough to keep jurich, he will hire pitino back.

Or hire his dipshit son….. I’m calling it.

  12. sprtphan

Let’s hope they keep the streak going.

  13. timewilltell

UL has no choice but to clean house. The NCAA punishes schools who cheat with athletes. They just don’t punish schools for academics fraud!!

and they banged skanks in it.

  15. Willis talkin bout....

Jurich should just resign. just like Pitino should have done after the whores. Neither of them are willing to do what is in the best interest of the University they claim to love. Only thing either have ever cared about is money and ego. Ramsey, and the old UL board, media, and the fan base are all complicit in allowing this situation to reach this level. They have ran that institution like an organized crime syndicate and stolen millions. Now they all finally look like the criminals they are! Enjoy…

    1. secrick

True, You just about nailed it.

    2. Rixter

You don’t understand: they were printing money over on Floyd Street, and only Ramsey, Jurich, and Pitino had a key to the printing press room. They had an unlimited supply of cash. That’s gotta be hard to walk away from….

    3. WizardWCN

they were not printing money, they were stealing it from The UL Foundation, and paying off those who found out about it.

I am using this only as an example and I’m not equating the offenses.

Aldrich Ames is a former Central Intelligence Agency officer turned KGB mole, who was convicted of espionage in 1994.

He is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole in the Federal Correctional Institution in Terre Haute, Indiana, United States.

Ames also passed a lie detector test.

    1. TBW3011

Yes. And pathological liars can pass these test quite regularly. Why? They practically believe what they are saying.

    2. runningunnin.454

True…and also just pop a propranolol 40mg tablet, and you’re home free.

    3. Mathlete

it’s almost as if lie detector tests aren’t that reliable…

  17. gocats123

Since the time this started I can’t believe it took a six hour meeting. Would have thought as soon as he walked he in should have handed him a check and say here is your parting gift thanks for playing and have him get the hell out. He was a great coach but for all the positive he may have brought to them this negative stuff is going to have more lingering effects. With him gone it will be harder to hate Lousville but I figure we will find a way……lol.

I’m sure Ricky’s lawyers tool up at least 5 of those hours. More like a filibuster…

    2. wesmorgan1

Oh, they have to show some level of “due diligence”, or they’ll have a tougher time fighting the inevitable breach-of-contract/wrongful-termination lawsuit.

  18. 4everUKblue

Remember the time he was at UK and wanted to have “Hit The Road Jack” played when we won in Rupp and C.M. denied him?

  19. Wildcat85

What we will never see is an an apology from Rick to the UL fans. He has denied everything with theatrically and will never give it up. He screwed UL and walked away with millions.

  20. WizardWCN

Edward Smith didn’t know about the ice burg.

  21. Trevor

    Bye Felicia!!!!!

  22. catsarerunnin

Poor Slater. He’s probably drowning his sorrows with cheep booze in his cozy little room in his parents basement.

    1. dballrb

I’ve been looking for him myself..blahblahahahaha.

  23. wesmorgan1

Geez, and Dickie V is on Twitter saying that UL is “rushing to judgment” in firing Pitino…*laugh*

  24. dan213

Pitino doesn’t have dementia. Syphilis perhaps but I’m not buying anything normal with him. Just like his professed love for all things UL….bull$hit! It’s always been about the money and getting back at us. Ya’ll seen how hard it was for them to get rid of him even with cause…and they’ll probably still end up paying him the 44 million. Pitino, Jurich, and Ramsey where all buried in like ticks on a dogs rear end. Took the FBI to get two of them out and UL will still end up paying them. Not that I have any sympathy for them. Y’all remember the got Rick? Shirts when he came back from Boston? Screw em! Matter of fact I recall good ol Denny’s “memo” he wrote when Jurich was cutting him loose to hire Rick. I also recall him forcing that game to begin with back in the late 70’s early 80’s. Da vile was still in the old metro conference. Denny finally got enough legislators in his back pocket and they threatened to pull UK’s state funding if they didn’t agree to play UL every year. Is the Joe B./Denny show still on in Louisville? Someone call in and ask em and see what they say.
