It wasn’t until I saw these photos that I truly accepted Kyle Wiltjer’s transfer to Gonzaga. But, as you can see, he really is a Bulldog. One of UK’s best three-gogglers of all-time is gone.
Good luck to ya, Kyle.
Hate to say it, but Kyle looks like he belongs in that jersey. White Boy University moves northeast. Good luck to him – he’s gotta do what he has to do, but I’m afraid he will be missing a heckuva a ride this year with the Cats in exchange for more PT.
That jersey just doesnt look right on him. Shaking my head.
You can tell he really dedicated himself in the gym over the summer. “Changing his body.” To hell with being gracious. He didn’t have the cajones to man up, hit the gym and become a UK type player. He can now be a tall, slow, weak 3. Congratulations to him. I hope he enjoys playing in Europe.
At least we don’t have to endure that st u p id Hand signs anymore……LAME
Just stand there and smile.
I’m am a little concerned of lossing his awesome production off this team. It may mean we don’t win it all losing is irreplacable 7 minutes a game and 2.1 PPG and his 23 PPG allowed…… How will we survive
1. First off, it’s WBA White Boy Academy. Secondly, moves northeast? Gonzaga is in Spokane Washington (Washington state). Facepalm
zzzzzzzz Oh sorry you were talking abouta below avg bench player that transfered…..
Good for him. He will finally get some coaching.
It still doesn’t sit well with me.
#3 you took the words right out of my mouth. See zero improvement in his body. Best of luck to him. Maybe if I have a kid up sick at 1 AM I can catch some of his games.
you’re going to hear about kyle for a long time, sitting out a year and then 2 more years to play … gonzaga could be fun to watch with josh perkins heading out there
don’t understand the goofy hand signs, but i like the red j’s … nice
Its like seeing your ex girlfriend with another man. Except its a dude and its a transfer
Hey, he might not have had much production, but like I’ve said before, he came off the bench and popped some 3’s in some crucial spots when we needed them in the championship run. I still think he could have been a decent role player on this year’s team, but oh well, good luck to him & the Zags unless & until we see them in March.
10, yeah, I forgot that he’ll be sitting this year, so even if we play them in March he’ll be on the pine.
This sits perfectly well with me. I’m extremely happy to never have to see his slow-butt on the floor again for our Cats. He was not good.
slow day at KSR I see.
Had seriously already forgotten about him. Best of luck to him
I loved Kyle’s offensive game. He could not be guarded. I think he had the best post moves of any UK player I’ve ever seen. But we couldn’t afford to run our offense through him, mainly because with him on the court, our opponents were playing 5 on 4.5. Could he have gotten quicker? I don’t know. Could you have gotten better a defense? Absolutely, he COULD have.
But we all should wish him the best and thank him for his contributions.
These photos were actually taken last month. Just took them a while to get coast to coast….
3 & 4, hate much?! Good god people, lighten up.
He’s dead to me now…
Just hoping he doesn’t think he can throw up his UK 3-Goggles in a Zags game.
I just don’ understand what goes on in these kids minds nowadays
17) best post moves you’ve ever seen from a UK player? I hope that was sarcasm cause if youre serious you must have hopped on the band wagon just last year…last season I wouldmake an argument was the best post player we had-not saying much tho. But don’t get me wrong wiltjer was a great player and I enjoyed watching him play.
Congratulations to Kyle. Hope things go well while he goes to Gonzaga and gets constantly beat on defense for them!
I’ve been watching basketball since the early 80’s. But I’ve talked to my Dad who goes back to watching UK since Issel’s day. And neither he nor I can think of a post player with better moves. Kyle was great a pivoting, could go either left or right. Never got blocked, that I can remember. Had to be double teamed when he was the focal point. He could pass the ball very well out to the perimeter or to somebody cutting to the basket. He could hit the 10-footer. It didn’t matter how quick, strong, or big his defender was, he could take it to them.
Name one player with better SKILLS! I challenge you.
You can’t say Mashburn because he was more of a point forward. Can’t say Kenny Walker, because he mainly just jumped over everybody to get his shot off. Mel Turpin? Maybe, But I that was as a senior when he blossomed, but I don’t think he had Kyle’s skills. Who else? Antoinne Walker? Maybe…very quick, and good moves to the basket, but his key was his quickness, not necessarily his moves (‘cept his shimmey after some made baskets). Help me out, I can’t think of better post players SKILLWISE. The only other ones that come to mind was Boogie. I’d give him a grade A too, but we DID run the offense through him often. Kyle didn’t get that chance as much. Again, because he couldn’t play defense.
He does belong there. Where he has no competition to push him and force him to be at his best like he would at UK. He is weak minded and was afraid of competition. Not the kind of player we needed at UK. Best of luck to him but could really care less. Besides, it seems Derek Willis is a helluva better than people thought so he may have eaten into Kyles minutes anyway.
Is he flashing the Shocker
Does anybody happen to have Wiltjer’s field goal percentage in the post this past season? I remember him not being too effective finishing. An actual statistic would be great to validate that. I would explain some of the double-teams or help-downs could be attributed to the lack of a consistent 3 point shooter allowing the D to sag down to help. He was a pretty good passer, had a few pretty good moves, and wasn’t a great finisher.
Not tough enough.
He did get to live the dream for a couple of years but now back to the norm.
I hate to be mean but he actually looks thinner!
Is he flashing gang signs?? Happy for him though, if he’s happy.
Billy Ray-Are you stupid? Yes, Gonzaga’s track record is much better than UK’s. Sure.
Wiltjer will never be a good defender, but if his body changes he might be good enough. His foot speed is really his biggest problem, followed by musculature – these things are hard to change, no matter how much time you spend in the gym. Some guys have a lot more difficulty putting on muscle than others. After a year of work and age I suspect he’ll be stronger, but the footspeed will always be a problem. He’s just not a super-athlete like a lot of his peers.
All this being said, I think he is going to be a 20+ ppg scorer for Gonzaga next year. Unfortunately he’ll likely end up playing in Europe, not the NBA. That’s not a big negative, only the elite of the elite players can hack it in the NBA, most of them being elite athletes as well.
1. Look at a map
Kyle looks shorter and less handsome than when he was at UK. Must be something in the water in Spokane. (On a serious note, Spokane is a horrible city, worst ever)
(15) Especially yours
I wonder how Polson feels now that he has been replaced by a guy that doesn’t smile. And on another note, look at those shoes! I mean, Nike, geez. I know they are not Oregon, but my grandpa wouldn’t wear those!
It seems that too many of my fellow UK fans are immature and never learned to shut their mouths if they can’t say something nice about someone. Grow up. When Cal tells recruits that UK isn’t for everyone, do you think he adds, “you have to meet the expectations of a bunch of emotionally-stunted dullards or they’ll gripe about you”?
Dang I have no shot to make it to the league. I am slow, unathletic, cant play a lick of D and get bullied around everytime I touch the floor. I should’ve stayed in Lexington and won a second ring. Man I’m an idiot!!!
He was the Grand Marshall of the parade of quitters last season.
Kyle will need to SCORE a lot, to make up for being SCORED ON a lot – can’t remember any big at UK being that slow and avoiding contact like he did, aka the “Matador Defense.” Best of luck thou KW, hope the Zag’s are a better fit and you do well.
Right… he is a bulldog…. so why is he on this page….. Don’t get me wrong, I wish him well and appreciate his time with us, but me caring about how he looks in a uniform stopped they day he said I’m out, see ya UK….. move on
what is he doing with his left hand?
Why is he throwing up the shocker symbol?
His hand sign is obvious. Hes just giving a secret to hand sign to his former UK teammates that they will be getting their 9th National Championship this year. He just disguised it as a goofy, encrypted WBA thing.
Kyle will be missed.
Instead of sulking on the end of the bench, while not playing, He was in every huddle shouting encouraging words to his team mates. Celebrating the good plays with high fives and giving his all while playing in the game. He may not possess the speed of a John Wall or the toughness of a MKG but he always gave 110% and was an asset to the team both on and off the floor.
Best of luck to you Kyle and I hope when you do play you put up big numbers. You’re smile and turtle man ways will be missed. Thanks for wanting to be a Wildcat, sorry things didn’t work out for you.
Wish the guy the best and always liked him but he quit. Plain and simple he quit.
Yeah, yeah, I know that Gonzaga is in the Pacific NorthWEST…. brain fart attributed to lack of caffeine. Geesh, lighten up people, or take up drinking, maybe get laid…
“I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody.”
(apologies to On the Waterfront)
Kyle, I wish you had stuck around, but you didn’t. Build up that body and be somebody.
Kyle is putting up 9 fingers , meaning KY.will get # 9. Once a Cat always a Cat.
KG— Disagree to an extent.
Remember when late in the year after Cal benched him and walked away, and the camera caught him mouthing “f**k you”. Remember that? I do.
I’m very much at peace with his current location.
Bill O’Reiley’s word of the day…”Musculature”.
It’s a sad day. Kyle was a fan favorite… He came up with some big 3’s in crucial situations, and obviously it seemed like he couldn’t guard a lamp post, but his defense started to improve a bit as the year progressed. You can’t blame the kid for leaving. He will have a better role for the Zags and can really be a key player for them. Best of luck to you, Wiltjer!
Wait, you mean Mr. I.O.U. transferred? The guy Matt Jones said all last season whom the offense needed to go through to win games? Mr. 7 points a game, but the guy I’m guarding will get his career high? Oh well at least at Gonzaga he’ll get coached well enough to get to the Russian Pro Leagues.
im not going to lie after how bad he played last year when we needed someone to step up and be a leader… and then him leaving just proves that he doesn’t even think hes good enough to get minutes over these new guys… i used to really like kyle… but after last year and him leaving im not a big fan anymore…
Why’s everyone hating on him now but loved him when he stepped up when Noel went down
He’s just not good enough to do the one and done
I really liked Kyle and wish he had stayed, But i don’t see how going to Zaga is going to help him play better defense.
It’s like when you see your ex out with someone else lol
Why you throwing pics of this traitor on a UK website?
GOOD RIDDANCE! You are no longer a member of BBN, good bye. Please let this be the last Kyle Wiltjer post on KSR.
You people have to be the most disrespectful bunch of Cats fans I’ve ever seen. Your sure as hell didn’t mind when he was here popping treys at an above 40% clip in 2011-12… He transferred for more playing time. He was facing the impossible task of beating out Poythress, Young, Lee and Randle for playing time. He transferred to Gonzaga. GOOD FOR HIM. He’s already a NATIONAL CHAMPION, something you all will never be. Maybe he wasn’t what we expect in 2012-13, but what he did for us in 2011-12 was irreplaceable. When that dude came off the bench, you knew a 3 was going through the net… He can flat out shoot the ball. He didn’t have the floor general he had in 11-12 to be as good this past season. So get your head out your a$$es and show the man respect. He helped win us a title. There is only 2 schools on this planet that would make me hate him if he went to and that’s UofL and Duke. Be happy he didn’t pick one of those junk a$$ schools. Pathetic people. Gonzaga fits him nicely. I wish him the best of luck, y’all should as well.
What 63 said.
Kyle needs steroids and growth hormone
UKLive524 – spot on.
However, these people are thankfully just a tiny minority – very noisy, but still a tiny minority – just like the “fans” who cringe at the thought of the 1998 championship game and seem to wish it was off the books because Tubby Smith was the coach, and come up with a bunch of other nonsense. I guess now the same ones want the 2012 one off the books like that one because of Wiltjer’s contributions to achieving it.
Good luck, Kyle. You are missed already. http://everythingkentuckyonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/witness-wiltjer.png
As it was said, “You gotta do what you gotta do”, and Kyle W. felt like he didn’t want to compete with the players that Coach Cal had coming in this year. I can’t blame him and neither should “ANYONE” else. He has a NCAA Championship ring and got to play with one of the best teams in UK history. Now maybe some of that knowledge can help his new team and I for one hope so. He will always be a Cat to me as long as he isn’t playing UK. I wish him the best.
I’ll be funny not seeing his lazy Butt standing arround under the basket and not rebounding or running the court .I was never an huge fan of his but he was an cat and i love my cats . I wish the kid the best and hope he gets threw his head winning is running the court , FIGHTING for rebounds , sitting up blocks, and defense ,this is not football and he’s not an quaterback . Having an decent shooting avg. is all and well but there’s just so much more to the game .. Last year was an true picture of whom he is as well as an couple other players . This is an team sport and it takes an team and bench playing team ball to win an title .
I have been a BBN fan since I went there in 1972 (graduated in 1976). I liked Kyle Wiltjer and hated that he left, but his contribution, although significant, was limited. Last year he was the ‘go to’ post guy, because the rest of the team was pitiful. Anyone who says he was the best post guy ever at UK does not know much about UK basketball. I could name 20 post players who were better, but it would not be a good use of my time, nor appease those who are haters. I do wish Kyle good luck with Gonzaga. It is probably a better fit for him. I hope the move is good for Kyle and I wish him success in his career, whether it be in basketball or in media. I will miss his U-tube posts with the WBA and his fellow goonies. Good luck Kyle, you will always be a member of the BBN.
Good grief, what a bunch of cry babies! Wiltjer will get onboard with the Kelly Olynyk Clinic transformation plan at Gonzaga and end up a first round NBA pick.
He saw the writing on the wall….he was an All-American, getting recruited over. His PT was going to vanish to nothing. So, Calipari pretty much forced him out. he wanted to play, he is a good player, so why not tranfer closer to home where you can play?
Disturbing how you all loved him but whe he tranfers you turn into haters……maybe he transferred in part because UK fans are like that, hmmmm.
We will miss you Kyle! I used to live in Spokane luv the northwest God Bless.
