Oh my, Louisville

Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

Louisville suffered one of the worst losses in basketball history Thursday night.

Hosting No. 1 Virginia and in desperate need of a win to reach the tournament, the Cards controlled the game for 39 minutes and 59 seconds.

That last second, though — it was a wild one.

Up four with 0.9 seconds left, Louisville fouled a Virginia shooter to send him to the line for three shots. He made the first two, and then a lane violation gave Louisville the ball back. All Louisville needed to do was inbound the ball and it would seal the victory, and likely an NCAA berth. However, Louisville turned the ball over on a traveling call before putting the ball in play, which gave Virginia the ball back, down two, and the clock still at 0.9 seconds.

Then this happened:

Ball game in unbelievable fashion.

Heartbreak for the Cards, again.

If that doesn’t set the tone for March Madness, I don’t know what does.
NO WAY they could lose that game.
    Almost feel sorry for them…
    NAH, who am I kidding?
    Go Wildcats!

  2. BigBlueNationDude

This ruins my whole year. Current mood: mad!

    1. NashvilleCat92

If it hadn’t actually happened I wouldn’t believe it

      Virginia Tech. LOL

    Brutality

  4. kentuckybackupplayer

one hell of a 502codered moment.

  5. IAmTheDanger

All Lville had to do is just lay down on the floor up 4 with VA inbounding the ball. And they foul on the 3 point attempt AND THEN walk on the inbounds pass. VA scored 5 points in .9 seconds to win…..sorry, but I loved it but hate it for Padgett because I do like him.

  6. RealCatsFan

The ref told Adel 3 times that he couldn’t run the baseline when inbounding the ball, and he did it anyway. But the play that set this all up was when the Louisville player fouled on the 3 point attempt when Louisville was up 4 with one second left. Just let them score and inbound the ball!

  7. Catlogic15

UL fans on Twitter acting like “itty titty babies”

  8. 502CodeRed

LOL that the #1 team in the country was in a buzzer beating position against an unranked 19-10 opponent to begin with. UVA will lose to a St. Joseph or Gonzaga type team this year. They always do.

    1. sprtphan

      Hurts don’t it.

    2. BigBlueNationDude

      U real mad Bro

    3. ClutchCargo

Whatever helps you sleep tonight. It’s gonna be ok, codered. LOL!

    4. 4everUKblue

So if you’re right and they lose to one of the type teams you mentioned, it really makes the fact that you almost won the game mean less. See what you did there Code?

    5. JTHinton

He’s not wrong though….they could barely make up a ten point deficit vs LOU, who may not even make the tourney

    6. catsarerunnin

      Dagger feather boy lol!

    7. J-Dub421

Code, your team had the win and choked. I didn’t think it was possible to lose up four with .9 seconds to go, but U of L found a way.

    8. Booby Petrino

That #1 team is the best team in the ACC. So if they are weak like you say, doesn’t say much for your conference. SEC! SEC! SEC!

    9. UK BigBoardUpdate

Whats worse? That, or getting blasted by 29 by your instate rival?

    10. UK BigBoardUpdate

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: karma smacks that program harder than any other in the nation, and its not even close. #Earned #NotGiven

    11. Memphis UK Cat

I watched that game and all I can say is wow! The ACC is not that great and I almost feel sorry for LOUISVILLE on that one.

  9. SuperTroy18

UVA might be first 1-seed to lose to a 16. In fact, UL might be too…in the NIT.

  10. Jiminy Crickets

Ahhhh to bad. Here’s to hoping for the NC State knockout punch

  11. Jiminy Crickets

I tried to watch at work on WatchESPN, but it was blacked out, I guess that’s what happens when the number 1 team in the country, comes when u NEED the win, and you still can’t sell the game out

  12. plumloopy

Not hating Louisville as much as most here, I feel pretty bad for them. Those players have had an awful year to deal with. 36 can see the shot is way off and starts to relax… and then it banks in. Ridiculous. With UL unranked, I’d always vote for the upset unless it were against Duke. I guess I’m more a Duke hater.

    1. plumloopy

Also, UL beating VA benefits UK.

    2. ClutchCargo

Yeah, I honestly hated that for Lil Bro. Can’t believe they managed to screw that up.

    3. 4everUKblue

I hate it for the players, but not the fans. The players can’t help it that their fanbase is a bunch of delusional nut jobs.

    4. RealCatsFan

Wellllll, I live in Louisville, and have a lot of family and friends who are Louisville fans – including my dad, who is dealing with a terminal illness in a nursing home. Anything that brings a little joy to his life is a good thing. Not all UL fans are delusional idiots. We all have some fans in our base who embarrass us, including UK. Just keeping it real, folks. Go Cats!

    5. henderblue

You are right RCF. Prayers for your dad

    6. 4everUKblue

Sorry RCF you’re right and I’m sorry, I got carried away. Prayer for your dad. We certainly have our fair share of delusional idiots in the BBN.

    7. ukcamel

It doesn’t really help UK if Louisville wins in that we aren’t going to be seeded differently based on this single game. In fact, at this point we are likely only playing g for whether we are a 4-seed or a 5-seed. If we get to the SEC championship game we might scoot to the 3-line, but it’s unlikely. And if we lose tomorrow and in the first round of the SEC to a bad team, maybe we drop to a 6.

  13. ukkatzfan

Hahahahaha. U-6…..the gift that keeps on giving.

  14. RICKSVD

Screw louisville and Padgett. He’s the enemy now. Hate him more than anyone. Who cares about Jurich and pitino, theyvare gone. Next man up to Hate. I wish nothing but bad things for him and his team. Nasty, whore mongers.

    1. Catnation

Agreed. Screw Louisville and everything about that fan base.

  15. ukfan377

All any team needs to do in that situation it just pass the ball at least past half court. There is 0.9 seconds left. If they steal the ball and then have time to heave a shot and make it, then all power to them.

    With that being said….GO CATS!!!

  16. runningunnin.454

Just don’t foul the 3 pt shooter; times expires while the ball is in the air, and UL wins. The announcers said “somebody” told him to foul the guy…can’t believe that.

    1. Rixter

Right. You might foul if it’s a 3 point lead, but not 4. Dude just screwed up. And then other dude screwed up.

  17. catsarerunnin

Sean Miller obviously is the perfect fit for UL.

  18. RICKSVD

My favorite UL senior night ever. I feel great knowing those sorry ass whore loving players cried all night. Screw them, their families and anyone who likes them.

    1. henderblue

      That’s a little hard dude.

  19. ukbradstith

Most unbelievable ending to a basketball game I’ve ever seen. Wow.

  20. jahanc2uky

Karma, ahh hahaha. The sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences. That foul was Karma for keeping Rick Pitino & Jurich after many unmoral scandals. The travel represents enforcement needing to be given to a University that was always trying to get away with something. And the heartbreaking, banked in three-pointer is Karma to the fan base & UL players for sitting on their butts without demanding change. That lost last night is UL’s fate and it could not make me happier!

  21. Jiminy Crickets

You know Pitino was proud of them. It took Pitino a whole 14 seconds longer to blow his lead

    1. catsarerunnin

Not to mention inbound blunders in his UK coaching career.

  22. UK BigBoardUpdate

Somebody check and make sure Luether is okay. He’s probably REALLY MAD RIGHT NOW. 😀

    1. Booby Petrino

      Lol

  23. mj7juice

Classless post. Another great piece of journalism from Franklin, I genuinely forgot this is a University of Kentucky website. Kudos to you for boosting UL’s ratings, brilliant.

    1. UK BigBoardUpdate

      U MAD, BRO?

    2. collier187

Wow haha. I love seeing Louisville lose but this is awesome

    3. mj7juice

      U MENTALLY CHALLENGED BRO?

    4. 4everUKblue

Well yes actually he is mentally challenged.

    5. Booby Petrino

Boosting what ratings? The only ratings ksr is boosting is their own, as here you are on their site making them money. I’m sure Matt appreciates the clicks.

  24. 57nukeduke

RICKSVD, are you Rick Pitino? Sucks to lose like that I watched most of the game and thought they had it won, looks like the ACC is really down this year if UV is their best team.

  25. Tricky1

Never thought I would live to see the day where the Cards would make me forget about the Christian Laettner shot. They did!
