Matthew Hurt highlights

Scott Jacobson / Post Bulletin

New highlights are featuring Matthew Hurt. The 2019 star is ranked No. 4 in the 247 Sports rankings. The Cats offered back in December, which actually made Kentucky a bit late to the party.

John Calipari visited Hurt in April and the Cats remained active in the scoring power forward’s recruitment. Currently the Cats aren’t perceived as the leader, but plenty can change as Hurt is in no rush to make a final decision.

The 6-foot-9, 200-pound prospect is gifted offensively and unselfish on the floor. I’m curious how his game will translate to the college level because 200-pounds at the four position won’t get it done at major college basketball. He certainly is skilled enough to play the three but he will need to be a deadly outside shooter or become a bit quicker to be a high volume scorer as a freshman. It may not scream as a prototypical John Calipari player, but it’s clear the UK head coach is starting to value scorers more than just pure athletes. Regardless, with that much skill offensively any team would be lucky to have him and the Cats remain involved.

In my opinion it may be tough for UK to add Hurt with James Wiseman and Vernon Carey, but if the Cats miss out on Wiseman or Carey they may make Hurt one of their top priorities.

His game doesn’t fit Cal’s system. Im sure someone will criticize this but it’s true.

Completely agree. Curious to see if his emphasis on recruiting shooters makes him change his offense.

What part doesn’t fit? The good outside shooting? The good passing? The turnaround J on the blocks?

No point in arguing it’s my opinion and obviously you have yours.

Slow as syrup, reminds me of Wiltjer. Pass

      Karo lite?

Also agree…Same characteristics mentioned were what everybody liked about Wiltjer (me included), but he didn’t fit whatever Cal’s “system” is

Cals system is be long and athletic. Being able to shoot, dribble, pass, catch passes not required.

    A better Derek Willis.

I think Kevin love….and cal said he’s changing his system to have shooters around and he’s a big who can shoot. That’s what we need so we’re not all around the basket! you saw what happened last yr no real shooters to worry about then free throws killed us. Thought shai needed to shoot more threes but a rare thing with cals team no other guard or sf could attack so he was forced to take the load and he was out only playmaker that’s why he’s in the lottery and Knox isn’t bc he had to many games shooting 1 for 9 from 3 instead of attacking. Hami shot more threes than he scored in the paint I bet so I think cals eyes are open and he’s going to get hurt. It’s a shame jamarl baker couldn’t play bc he can stroke it can’t wait to see him this yr and Herro, obviously I like shooters.

And he hasn’t won a Title since when?! We need shooters! We got beat by a smaller, faster, better team than our “long/athletic” layup team!!! KState as well as the rest of the SEC beat us by “shooting” better and scoring more. It isn’t rocket science!!! Yeah you all will drink whatever Cal is pouring out! Oh, heaven forbid this kid is slow!!! But he can make points all over the court…pass we don’t need him, arm chair point guards know it all!”

3 attack 1 spot up and one moving doing it all. Last year there were games could break out of the 60s in points.everyone has to have a role but must be able to dribble pass and SHOOT. We did not have that last yr. pj couldn’t shoot, vando no shot, hami nothing, nick and skj no d lost but both can shoot?Every time we get beat it’s bc we can’t shoot and everyone clogs the lane. Every big game it happens.hurt can do it all just slower his game could help bc we get sped up from time to time and he could be that option. Question is can he defend. That’s what we were supposed to be last yr I thought?

We got lit up behind the arch by 6 foot point guards this season…dribble drive is NOT winning games anymore, teams have adjusted defensive schemes and showed all season. If you can’t hit 3’s and shoot consistently you will NOT win and cannot compete in the final four!
