Matt Elam has a dislocated patella; Richardson will sign in February

This past weekend, top 2014 UK target Matt Elam suffered a knee injury that many feared was a torn ACL. Fortunately, the injury isn’t that serious. Elam’s coach Chad Lewis told the Herald-Leader’s Ben Roberts that the talented defensive tackle was diagnosed with a dislocated patella in his left knee on Monday. He’s “very doubtful” for John Hardin’s game against Bowling Green on Friday. Elam will announce his college decision on January 4th.

In other 2014 recruiting news, offensive lineman Nick Richardson will not enroll in January as originally thought. His mother told the Herald-Leader that her son will sign with UK in February on National Signing Day and graduate from his high school this spring. If you want to see Richardson in action, he recently updated his highlight video for his Senior year (plenty of pancakes, plus a helmet-flying hit around the :50 mark).

Get well soon, big fella. Remember to pack plenty of blue for the trip to San Antonio in January.

Would’ve liked to get Richardson on campus for the spring. O-Line is a key area that needs to improve and Richardson with an extra semester in the strength & conditioning and spring practice would’ve been nice, but as long as he still signs on the dotted line in Feb it’s all good.

I’ve dislocated mine three times. No big deal.

You made me think of Kurt Angle with that line, though I’m sure that wasn’t your intent.

Why come to a floundering home state school when you can get NFL ready, play for proven coaches and be on a team that will be in the national championship hunt every year while Saban is there.

Because it’s close to home, he’d get immediate playing time, and it seems like he’s good friends with some of the recruiting class we’re getting next year. I know he and Barker are pretty close at least. As far as getting players NFL ready, Kentucky has put some solid defensive players in the NFL (Trevathan, Woodyard, Peters, etc.) Also, in his last year at Florida State, Stoops had 2 defensive players in the first round, seven overall. Bama had 1 defensive player in the first round and four overall. I’m not expecting numbers like that at Kentucky for quite a while if ever, BUT the point is, Stoops is capable of putting defensive players in the NFL.

See you at UK on December 14 for recruit night Matt. Enjoy the UK basketball game. Sorry I can’t make it, I will be overseeing practice with my team for our bowl game in the National Championship game. Good luck on your college decision. I understand why it would be difficult in chosing which school to attend. Best wishes, Alabama Head Coach Nick.

Richardson is a beast! I hope Stoops is pursuing some other options besides Elam. We need some help up front.
