Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Matt and Drew will be on Finebaum today

finebaum

As if today isn’t crazy enough, both Matt and Drew are going on “The Paul Finebaum Show” this afternoon to discuss the craziness that went down in Indianapolis this weekend and the SEC’s surprising run in the tournament. Tune in to see Matt at 3:30 p.m., and Drew later on at a time TBD.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Inquirer updated its story from earlier in which the NCAA denied asking Drew to take down the video. The article now includes quotes from Matt, who spoke to David Worlock, the NCAA’s Director of Media Coordination/Statistics, on the phone last night.

Worlock denied that anyone from NCAA asked Franklin to remove the video. Sources say the order to take down the video came from an employee of the Indiana Pacers, acting on a request from Wichita State, who cited the NCAA’s rules on posting video during a game. Wichita State has not responded to a request for comment.

But Matt Jones, the founder of Kentucky Sports Radio, claims Worlock is lying.

“David told me personally after the game to take the video down,” Jones said. “This is totally false.”

Because this day keeps getting crazier, Drew will also be on “Inside Edition” later tonight, so check your local listings.

I loved Matt’s earlier writing days for the site, loathe his politics, think Drew mails it in too often, and TT is perfect in every way but the fact that KSR has launched the national story that will fill the empty days between Sunday and Thursday’s games is absolutely hilarious! It is indeed Kentucky sports in the most ridiculous manner possible. Inside Edition? Wow. UFO hovers over WSU hotel and invaders get Lynn Marshall Drunk before game screams the National Enquirer headline. Run with boys and enjoy the ride!

Is this going to be like Matt’s appearance on First Take?

Be careful guys, I worry the NCAA decides to go nuclear on you and pull your credentials for life. They’re petty, they hold grudges, and even if the truth is clearly on your side, they’re as post-truth as any organization can be.

This is another unfortunate example (they have a history) of KSR trying to promote themselves at the expense of other people by publicly shaming someone and then trying to rationalize it under a thin veil of journalistic integrity and free speech. I agree her behavior is offensive and embarrassing but as far as I can see she didn’t do anything illegal and she is not hurting anyone. I would be embarrassed if, as part of my job, I posted video’s of people in their personal life for the explicit purpose of trying to shame them. Believe it or not, she is an actual person with a real life of her own. But hey, enjoy those interviews and all that publicity you are getting from posting a video of a drunk woman on the internet. Good job!

Another example of KSR’s glaring stupidity is the commercial you are running during the NCAA tournament of Matt, Drew and Ryan dressed up as Fox, Monk, and Brad Calipari with the “Earned Not Given” tattoo. You’re all, presumably, highly educated, professional, adult men making fun of an 18 year old kid. I understand the intent and I can take a joke but do you think Brad Calipari thinks that is funny? That is Coach Cal’s kid. Do you Coach Cal thinks it’s funny to put his kid on blast on television during one of the most watched TV times of the year? That commercial is unbelievably stupid in more than just it’s appearance.

The arrogance and hubris combined with the very KSR-centric nature in which you all cover UK sports is embarrassing to UK fans. You all seem to have a hard time understanding the difference between a joke and making fun of someone; which is just sad and embarrassing for you, not the people you are making fun of.

I think the story is about the NCAA lying. Which in my opinion is pretty bad since they are the ones that crucified Pearl for lying about a Bar B Q. Just more NCAA irony.

Nonsense. Lynn Marshall made this a story when she went crying to the NCAA. Had she simply said, “my bad, guys, I get carried away some times” everyone would’ve laughed in that sheepish “we get it, we’ve done the same thing” way and all would be forgotten. But she didn’t do that – she tried to throw her weight around as a coach’s wife and escalated the situation. I’m guessing her embarrassment level was heightened by all the smack talk from Wichita State prior to their loss. KSR did nothing wrong here.

    3. Mathlete

The story isn’t Lynn Marshall (and never would have been had they left it alone). It’s that the NCAA pressured KSR to pull down a post of her embarrassing herself in public for the billionth time by subtly threatened to pull their credentials and then doubled down by basically calling Drew a liar publicly.

That you don’t like the Hey Kentucky commercial is your opinion, and you’re entitled to it, but nobody is being put on blast. The joke is a shirtless Ryan Lemond with a ridiculous tattoo on his chest (sorry Ryan, but at least you have something in common with Will Ferrell). Besides, Coach and Mrs Cal have both publicly said they weren’t fans of Brad’s tattoo.

I don’t know what UK fans you talk to, but the ones that I know that read/listen to KSR enjoy it so you’re apparently speaking for the minority as far as I can tell. Maybe it’s just that your circle of friends have no sense of humor? KSR has always cast itself in the light of being the most ridiculous manner possible.

bb23…you just spent at least 10 minutes typing 306 words that will have zero impact. KSR readers live for these type of shenanigans…haven’t you figured that out??!! We’re (mostly) all here for the “most ridiculous manner possible”

    5. MinnesotaCatFan

I’m sure Jerry has something for you to read somewhere. Lighten up Francis! If you’re looking for the deep sports take…look elsewhere. If you don’t like it, turn the dial or restrict yourself from logging on. I’m so sick of self-righteous people like you who like to dissect other people’s jobs. Where do you work? I’ll make sure I stop by and throw stones at you while you’re cutting grass!

    6. George

Agree with bb23 on all points. KSR never hesitates to promote themselves at the expense of others. I come to this site simply due to the lack of options regarding Kentucky sports news. However, acts like this make me really question if it is worth it.

bb23 … more words. You need more words.

  5. IstandUPatGames

Frank Martin just burned Matt Jones on Finebaum!

  6. secrick

Yet you still read every post and the BS about you can’t get Ky sports other places is also BS. No one cares that you don’t like KSR. You are both probably card fans and ha they have nothing to talk about after yesterday. Loser pulling for losers.

  7. leon singleton

I wish Kentucky fans showed as much school spirit as Lynn at games .A ball game is not a church service.

    1. IstandUPatGames

Praise you Leon! I have been saying the same thing to the couple that sit behind me at Commonwealth! I stand up and cheer. If they want to sit thats on them. But, a grown ass woman dropping f-bombs and harassing college kids is waaay over the line. What would she say if Ellen Calipari told that blonde shooter from WSU to get a jug of Rogaine?

    2. 4everblue

I hope like hell I NEVER see a UK coach’s wife conduct herself in such a drunken manner. We are better than that. I cannot imagine any of the former UK coachs’ wifes shouting profanity lace with f-bombs at 18 year old kids or anyone else for that matter. Lynn is not just a fan, she is the coach’s wife, she represents Wichita State Basketball, like it or not.
