Louisville adds former LSU head coach Trent Johnson to staff

Give Louisville interim head coach David Padgett some credit: he just made a really smart hire. As first reported by KSR, Padgett is adding former head coach Trent Johnson to his staff. Johnson has been the head coach at TCU, LSU, Stanford, and Nevada, and will bring some much-needed experience to a staff that desperately needs it.

You probably remember Johnson best from his time at LSU, when he said of playing the eventual 2012 National Champion Kentucky Wildcats, “I don’t know if it’s Kentucky or the Miami Heat we have to play on Saturday.” A week later, after the Cats mauled the Tigers, he said, “You can crown them right now.”

Good for Louisville for finally hiring someone with some common sense.

Can’t believe they didn’t hire Johnny Jones! 🙂

Solid performance at four schools not known for basketball success…and programs with recruiting challenges. I’m impressed

Dammit! Pretty soon I’ll have to start respecting them. At least I still have Petrino to ridicule.

    Smart hire!

Not sure if I’m more impressed with his 8 – 64 record in the Big 12 or 25 – 39 in the SEC

While head coach at LSU he went to fraternities and told them he would get them strippers if they came to games. Sounds like a Louisville coach.

I’m confused. If Trent Johnson is the new coach, why is there a picture of an owl in the story?
