Lexington mayor talks statues on tonight’s VICE News

Lexingtonians, you will want to tune in to tonight’s VICE News to hear what mayor Jim Gray has to say about the current state of the city’s statue controversy. VICE sent a correspondent to last week’s city council meeting and to chat with Mayor Gray about the decision.

It will air at 7:30 pm on HBO.

And before all the ignorant comments flood in it’s worth noting that KY had far more union soldiers than confederates and we weren’t part of the confederacy. Not to mention Breckinridges own family thinks the statues should be moved.

My family on both sides served in the Union Army…you may have seen a post I made on one of the show threads; I have a letter my Great-Grandfather wrote to his sister while he was guarding Confederate troops in Russellville, Ky. The address on the envelope was to Slaughtersville, Ky–now known as just Slaughters and it was dated 1864.
However, when Grant went into Paducah, factions in Kentucky considered it breaking our neutrality, and representatives from most counties met in Russellville and voted to secede. They established a capitol in Bowling Green and became the 13th star on the Confederate flag, just after #12 Missouri.

I come to this site for sports information not for the news and not to read comments by ignorant posters like the first two. I am not proud of the mayor!

I bet the mayor is really worried if you are proud of him or not. Sources say he may not sleep all week now

I wish I still lived in Lexington so I could continue to vote for Mayor Gray too stay in charge of the city for 20 more years. His team has changed Lexington for the better in so many ways!
