Memo: Phil Fulmer to Jeremy Pruitt,
Coach, please refrain from comparing our football team to The Hindenberg, 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, the Great Chicago Fire, the Johnstown Flood, Apollo 1, Pearl Harbor, Hurricanes Katrina, Maria, Andrew, Sandy…………

    1. Realme

      Ha!

    2. RealCatsFan

Was it Apollo 11 that had the fire?

    3. RealCatsFan

I guess I’m kind of glad you didn’t put 9/11 in there.

    4. RealCatsFan

I bet UT fans kind of wish they had never fired Phat Phil.

    5. runningunnin.454

No, Apollo 11 was Neil Armstrong. No, no 9/11.

    6. Realme

Can’t he just fire Pruitt and hire himself?

    7. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

      The Edmund Fitzgerald.

    8. RealCatsFan

Doh! I stand corrected. I guess Challenger and Columbia sadly fit into that category.

    9. RealCatsFan

cg, that is one of my “guilty pleasure” songs – “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” by Gordon Lightfoot.

    10. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

      The SS Andrea Doria.

    11. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

RCF, could that qualify as the first song of the genre that some now call “Yacht Rock”? Haha.

    12. RealCatsFan

      Ahh, thank you Shannon!!

And yes, Sundown is an awesome song too.

    13. RealCatsFan

cg, for some reason I have always had an odd fascination of the event. Maybe it’s inspired by the song, and maybe it is because there is a bit of mystery surrounding exactly what happened to the Edmund Fitzgerald. It’s a sad but compelling tale.

    14. RealCatsFan

And the words to the song are awesome, IMO.

    15. J-Dub421

Gordon Lightfoot is some good stuff.

    16. runningunnin.454

Yes, liked Lightfoot; and, they forgot Carefree Highway, Early Morning Rain, and Rainy Day People.

    17. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Okay, I can’t wait any more. No one gets The SS Andrea Doria?

    18. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

      J-Dub, no Googling allowed!

    19. J-Dub421

It sounds vaguely familiar CG, but I can’t place it off the top of my head.

    20. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

A survivor of the sinking of the SS Andrea Doria was supposed to get the apartment instead of George Costanza.

    21. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

“51 people? That’s it?! I thought it was like a thousand! That’s no tragedy!”

    22. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

That’s not to be insensitive since I know we’ve had 2 horrible boating incidents lately. I didn’t know at the time that the Andrea Doria was a real boat. I thought they just made it up for the show.

    23. runningunnin.454

That was two ships colliding, right?

    24. RealCatsFan

Ahhh, and we have our token Seinfeld reference! We need to play “Seven Degrees of Seinfeld” instead of “Seven Degrees of Kevin Bacon”. 🙂

    25. J-Dub421

Ah! Seinfeld reference! Now I remember!

They got those crew members out of that capsized cargo ship yesterday, so that’s good.

    26. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Yes, it was 2 ships that collided RG. And count me in on Gordon Lightfoot. He had some tasty tunes.

    27. RealCatsFan

cg is a Seinfeld encyclopedia. We could get along! 🙂

    28. runningunnin.454

I remember when that fishing boat, Andrea Gail, was lost in the Perfect Storm. They were routinely giving updates on the radio regarding the search.
Don’t name your ship/boat Andrea anything.

  2. RealCatsFan

Someone should tell “Peanut” that it’s not a good idea to call KSR when he is operating a wood chipper. #Fargo 🙂

    1. RealCatsFan

Along those lines, we keep getting these random voicemails on our business lines at all hours of the night that usually consist of three minutes of some kind of industrial motor running in the background. Last night we got one at 3:30 AM that sounded like a bulldozer.

    2. ClutchCargo

So you’re getting butt dialed by a heavy equipment operator who works the graveyard shift? Or in China? Weird.

    3. Realme

      Ooh that’s weird.

    4. J-Dub421

I got a voicemail from a random number last week that (I think) is in Chinese. I don’t speak Chinese, so I’m not sure.

  3. RealCatsFan

Helicopters are like bumblebees and hummingbirds – physically, they just don’t seem like they should be able to fly and hover around like that.

  4. runningunnin.454

That was the Carpathia; history is your friend

  5. Realme

Yeah, Matt. That’s the saying. Fiddle while the ship goes down.

    1. RealCatsFan

Or it could be Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burns. I believe that is the origin of the term “fiddling around”.

    2. runningunnin.454

You can fiddle while Rome burns, too.

    3. runningunnin.454

Hah, RCF, you’re quick on the draw.

    4. RealCatsFan

      Great minds, rg. 🙂

    5. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

If you ever listened to Jim Rome (I don’t any more), he used to have a lot of fun when an athlete or coach would mix metaphors like that.

  6. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Wow, mod bot doesn’t like it if you just happen to point out certain demographics in certain bands. My comment keeps going “Poof”. Jerk bot.

Well, let me just say, look up YouTube vids of Mother’s Finest, especially if you like hard rockin’s blues rock.

    1. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

So KSR or WordPress didn’t like the fact that I was QUOTING (paraphrasing really) that Mother’s Finest complained back in the day that stations that tended to play a certain demographic would not play their music.

    2. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

And the band members were mixed race BTW (and had a black female lead singer who was AWESOME!).

    3. RealCatsFan

I will definitely check them out. Thanks for the tip, cg!

    4. J-Dub421

The modbot often eats my completely innocuous comments.

    5. RealCatsFan

I ran through in YouTube and sampled a few of their songs. Wow! They are good. I need to add them to my playlist. And they have been around since the early 70’s. I love the video from 1976 when the lead singer and guitarist were rocking the huge Jackson-5 style afros. 🙂

    6. ClutchCargo

Once the Mod Bot gets you on lock down, you’re done for awhile. I sometimes wonder if the Negative Nancies and trolls ever get moderated. It sure doesn’t seem like they do.

    7. runningunnin.454

There was a lot of censorship of songs from Buddy Knox’s Party Girl, Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl, the Sherills Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, and Tom Petty’s You Don’t Know How It Feels.
The BBC even banned I Am the Walrus; they were ok with all the drug lyrics; but, didn’t like “You’ve been a naughty girl, you let your knickers down”.

    8. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

You’re welcome RCF. It’s interesting when I find a band or singer that I didn’t know about that blows me away. A colleague of mine told me about Rory Gallagher. He was from Ireland and was also a hard rockin’ blues guy.

    9. RealCatsFan

cg, there is simply so much undiscovered talent out there, it’s crazy.

    10. RealCatsFan

rg, and you probably know that “Brown Eyed Girl” was originally written as “Brown Skinned Girl”, but the interracial aspect of the song was too controversial for the times, so it was changed.

    11. runningunnin.454

      Yep, That was the problem.

    12. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

No, I had never heard that.

  7. runningunnin.454

Modbot is savage today; I just wanted to crush the Tide griping about a noon kickoff.

    1. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Yeah, if they would play someone at home better than New Mexico State, Mercer, and (cough-cough) Georgia State, they would have better times. They’ve played all those teams over the last few years.
They want to do the neutral site games in Dallas or the ATL, and then play garbage teams at home until SEC play starts. Sounds kind of familiar.

    2. runningunnin.454

The noon UK games are 11:00 a.m. for me; that does suck.

    3. RealCatsFan

Dang, we are taking the boat out on Saturday. And coverage is spotty at best out there. Thank goodness for DVR’s.

    4. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Same here RG as I live in CST. It kind of gets the game out of the way if you have things to do later.

    5. ClutchCargo

cg, what does it mean to “get the game out of the way” or “have things to do” during football season? It’s that kind of mentality that leads to people scheduling weddings in the fall. 😉

    6. RealCatsFan

Clutch, that is definitely the gospel that is preached in Tuscaloosa, Athens, Baton Rouge, et. al.

  8. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Hey, Kaylee Hartung, Matt’s old flame, is on ABC radio’s new update right now!

    1. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Or CNN or whoever she works for now. It’s the one streaming on WLAP.

  9. J-Dub421

Cutting off air conditioning to the visitors locker room is a douche move.

    1. RealCatsFan

Yes it is. Were they mentioning the PRP player who died of heat exhaustion ten years ago? The former coach is the father of one of our volleyball players. I have met him and his family several times, and they are very nice people. Sad that this ever happened.

  10. m4ff3w

I’m flying from Austin to KY Saturday for the game (my first football game!)

Can I park @ KSBar and take shuttle to game?

    1. J-Dub421

Matt and company never check the show thread. I would either tweet Matt or call the restaurant to find out. Or maybe check their website.

    2. runningunnin.454

      I doubt it.

    3. ClutchCargo

Yes, you can absolutely do that, and I recommend it. Just get there plenty early, because that lot fills up. And the surrounding lots are marked with signs saying you will be towed if you’re not a customer of whatever business is there.

    4. ClutchCargo

KSBar doesn’t have a dedicated lot, it’s just the big lot for that shopping center by Sonic.

    5. RealCatsFan

I think they were running a shuttle from KSBar last week or the week before. You could also probably Google the number for the bar and call them.

    6. ClutchCargo

It’s all season. And the pickup is right in front of Jet’s Pizza at the other end of the shopping center from KSBar. $1 each way and free parking. Works for me.

    7. m4ff3w

Thanks, Clutch. How early are we talking? I get into Evansville at before eastern and will drive directly to Lexington, so should be there before 4.

    8. ClutchCargo

They seem to imply that KSBar is providing the shuttle, but it’s Lextran.

    9. ClutchCargo

You should be fine, then. Like I said, it was pretty full, even last week for EMU, but there should be some spots available at that time.

    10. m4ff3w

      Thanks so much!

  11. Realme

You can also park on Vine St. directly across from the transit center for free and shuttle from there for $1 or from in front of Rupp, if you can’t get to KSBar in time to find a spot.

    1. ClutchCargo

Yeah, I almost forgot that. http://www.lextran.com/route-maps/uk-football

  12. J-Dub421

To that former U of L player who now plays for Florida: How’d that 56-10 beating last year taste?

    1. runningunnin.454

Bitter taste of defeat and tears.

  13. runningunnin.454

Watched History of Bluegrass on Ky channel last night; do UT fans know Rocky Top was made famous by two brothers from Kentucky?
Bill Monroe of the Bluegrass Boys was from Ohio Co, Kentucky and sang Blue Moon Of Kentucky.
    Good show.

    1. RealCatsFan

I caught a little bit of that too. Tough choice between it and one of my favorites, “Firensic Files”. 🙂
