Seems like just yesterday I was complaining about how long we had to go without games in the off season, and now it’s both football and basketball time! I love it.

    1. runningunnin.454

But, but, but; some of our ksr brethren can’t keep up with two sports simultaneously.

    2. Realme

People really do complain about that…

    3. ClutchCargo

I have a slight preference for the game of football over basketball. But we’re heading into the time of year where we have college and pro bball and football all at the same time, and I’m loving it!

    4. Realme

If it’s a random game on tv, I’d rather watch football (sounds crazy to hear myself say that), but for UK, I don’t think football could pass basketball for me. Benny and Josh certainly got the tie last year though.

    5. J-Dub421

I like the pace of basketball better, but I like both. I don’t understand people who seem to hate one or the other. You can like more than one sport at a time. I generally support all UK sports teams.

    6. RealCatsFan

Our buddy mashburnfan is like Jekyl and Hyde when it comes to basketball and football.

    7. ClutchCargo

Yet trashburn is consistently rude and intolerant of anyone who has an opinion different than his.

    8. J-Dub421

He just hates Cal and is completely irrational in his hatred. It’s pointless to argue with him, which is why I stopped. It was a huge waste of time.

  2. secrick

Going to Keenland and the game Sat. I want be hard to miss i will be the guy with the coveralls on.

    1. Realme

Enjoy! They’re Kentucky blue, I hope.

    2. ClutchCargo

Insulated coveralls might be the right call on Saturday. It’s tough going from that heat to normal fall weather so suddenly.

    3. runningunnin.454

The quintessential definition of, “a good day”.

    4. J-Dub421

      May you cash many tickets!

    5. RealCatsFan

I have been wanting to do the Daily Double. Hmmm…

And I agree about getting used to the cooler weather. I am cold blooded so I can tolerate heat much better than cold. I actually didn’t mind the hot weather, but the lack of rain sucked because my water bill will be thru the roof trying to keep all my landscaping alive.

  3. Realme

In newspapers are dying news, The Herald Leader is going to stop having a Saturday paper. I don’t like them very much, but I hate to see the industry failing.

    1. J-Dub421

People still read the news, they just do so online now instead of reading a physical paper.

    2. ClutchCargo

I’m afraid journalism, in general, is dying. Most newspapers (print and online) seem to have given up and just go with the dumbed down USA Today content.

    3. RealCatsFan

Yeah, my daughter has more than a passing interest in journalism, and I have mixed feelings about the possibility of her going into the field.

    4. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

      She could write for Matt!

  4. J-Dub421

I saw Elton John at the Yum Center last year, and he was fabulous! He played for almost three hours. If you can swing it, go. (He was insanely expensive, but part of that was asshats snapping up tickets and selling them on the secondary market for ridiculous prices.)

    1. runningunnin.454

If they be British, and they are called Sir…they be good.

  5. J-Dub421

Coach Cal! I can’t wait! (That squealing sound you hear is me.)

    1. secrick

Elton John has some great songs.

    2. RealCatsFan

      “Hold me closer, Tony Danza
Count the head lice on the highway…”

    3. ClutchCargo

      Haha! I love misheard lyrics.

    4. RealCatsFan

“S’cuse me, while I kiss this guy!”

DumDuh Dah, Duh Dah Dah, Duh Dah Dah….

    5. ClutchCargo

My kids still kind of think it’s “there’s a bathroom on the right” because I always sing it that way. πŸ™‚

    6. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

      “I was boooooorn, in a cross-eyed hurricaaaaane!”

    7. RealCatsFan

      And my old favorite,

“revved up like a douche, another runner in the night…” πŸ˜€

    8. ClutchCargo

All this time I thought it was “wrapped up like a douche” RCF! Misheard misheard lyrics.

    9. RealCatsFan

Springsteen wrote the song, and it is supposed to be “revved up like a deuce”, as in 32 Ford hot rod, affectionately known as “the Deuce” in car circles.

  6. runningunnin.454

I hope y’all didn’t miss the food fight couple of articles ago about Mr Snoop’s exploits at KU; I learned so much.
Rap is music, no wait, rap is art.
Profanity and vulgarity are a sign of intelligence, snicker.
Einstein didn’t say gdam E = mfu****mc2 so the man was obviously a dullard.

    1. RealCatsFan

Don’t forget that ho’s on poles and money guns are a classy display of status.

    2. Realme

Yeah, that person’s argument that cursing is a sign of honesty and intelligence was wacky. I do my fair share of it, but it’s not coming from any of my better nature.

    3. J-Dub421

I’ll still listen to rap over country or heavy metal any day. To each their own.

    4. ClutchCargo

So, I became super honest and intelligent while watching the UK/USC game. Cool. πŸ™‚

    5. RealCatsFan

J-Dub, guess I’m and old crotchety dinosaur, because I’m the opposite. πŸ™‚

For me, anything with autotune and electronic drums is not real music. It’s video game music. πŸ™‚

    6. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

If that was true then Richard Pryor and George Carlin were Stephen Hawkins. Wait! They were BEYOND Stephen Hawkins.

    7. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Ray Charles once said β€œRap does zero for me. I’ve known how to talk all my life.” Then he dropped the mic (figuratively speaking).

I don’t care to argue if it’s music v. not music. It’s talking. Not singing. I like singing. Now get off my lawn!!!

    8. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

I can make an exception for an *occasional* old school MC Hammer, Sugar Hill Gang, maybe a little Run DMC, but that’s about it.

    9. J-Dub421

At least half the “singers” on the radio today are garbage. Their voices are terrible, they have no vocal range, their lyrics are stupid and make no sense, and they have poor vocal technique/training.

    10. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

A commenter on that thread named Bruce Dickinson wins the gold medal. He said:

“I heard Snoop is going to be an adjunct professor of English at UNC this semester.” Awesome!!!

    11. StillBP

Rap is music and music is art. I like rap more than country. I don’t like a lot of country music but I like a lot of rap. You guys are sounding very “stay off my lawn” old with your ‘rap isn’t real music’ rants.

    12. StillBP

Haha Chris, I didn’t see your lawn comment when I commented. Problem of having to type comments on my phone instead of computer… Takes longer

    13. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Everyone has different tastes though, J-Dub. Every time I look at a Van Halen video on YouTube, fights ensue over 2 things:

      1) “DLR doesn’t have range”, blah, blah, blah. He didn’t have the Red Rocker’s range, true, but I don’t care. Roth had a perfect voice for the music they were doing IMO. I prefer DLR VH to Sammy VH, but to each his own. I do have Sammy’s greatest hits and it is a GREAT driving CD.
      2) “DLR stole Jim Dandy’s persona/stage act”. Okay, who cares (not me anyway)?

    14. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

No problem, lol. I meant to type it in all caps in a new paragraph to make it stand out even more but forgot.

    15. J-Dub421

DLR over SH all day every day!

    16. runningunnin.454

I can talk, and I can curse if cursing is required…pay me. And, hey you GET OFF OF MY CLOUD.

    17. StillBP

Rg, talk over a beat and make me want to dance, I’ll give it a listen.

    18. StillBP

Is Get Off of My Cloud going to be your first rap song release?

    19. runningunnin.454

A papa oom mow mow, a papa oom mow mow. Funniest sound I ever heard, but I can’t understand a single word…
Do you wanna dance and hold my hand…

  7. Realme

Conquer Yourself is going to be one of this year’s new buzz words,

  8. RealCatsFan

Only 9 scholarship players?!? Wow, I thought Cal learned his lesson after 2013. I recall him saying that he would never be “held hostage” by his roster again. I don’t think we have a brewing attitude problem on this team like we had that year, but we have similar exposure to risk from injury and foul trouble.

    1. ClutchCargo

I didn’t realize that. 9 scholarship players is alarming.

    2. Realme

We have 10 scholarship players, Dontaie isn’t playing yet after his injuries.

    3. J-Dub421

We tried to add more guys, they went elsewhere. There’s not much Cal can do in that situation.

    4. RealCatsFan

J-Dub, I kind of agree, and it would be unfair to the kids for Cal to recruit a bunch of 4-star players as a stop-gap measure, especially if they would end up getting recruited over the next year. But on the flip side, a couple of 4-star guys who hung around and developed would be great. (But we have seen quite a few of those who transferred for greener pastures.)

    5. J-Dub421

Or got good really fast and left for the NBA after a year (Herro, Booker, Shai).

    6. DelrayCat

It is not just this year…it is EVERY YEAR they have 3 scholarships left over. I’m guessing he doesn’t want to risk having a high-end recruit be afraid he may not get to start as a freshman because of maybe having 2-3 juniors and seniors who have waiting patiently for their “time” to come.

    7. secrick

Darn i’m getting old and can’t remember his name right now but where did the 3 point shooter go that came off the bench last year. He sat out his first year.

    8. J-Dub421

We have scholarships open because people turn us down, or have red flags and Cal stops recruiting them. Or we have more guys get good and leave than anticipated. These are the three reasons.

    9. J-Dub421

      Baker. He transferred to Arizona.

    10. runningunnin.454

Jemarl Baker went to Arizona, I think.

    11. runningunnin.454

      Speedy Gonzalez J-D beat me.

  9. J-Dub421

Someone called the SEC office and tried to get Cal suspended? It was Clougherty.

    1. ClutchCargo

Or Tipturd, or somebody Tipturd talked to after that press conference. Either way, he had a hand in it, I’m sure.

    2. J-Dub421

Cloughherty was one of the people Tipton talked to, and he’s the one who said the SEC should suspend Cal.

    3. runningunnin.454

Truth hurts; ncaa div I officials are abysmal. I see better officiating in Div II and III games.
Also, it’s obvious some of the prime time refs have agendas and bias…and some, probably, are betting the line.

    4. J-Dub421

      Some have been caught betting.

  10. DelrayCat

It must be exhausting to be Cal. Needing to recruit 4-7 guys every single year and not knowing until well into the season who might be good enough to be one-and-done. Always seems to lead to imbalances in the roster. So many times we have been 1 or 2 (more experienced) guys away from a title…but only to fall short with a bunch of younguns who are off to greener pastures after their 9 months in Lexington.

    1. secrick

      He loves it.

  11. RealCatsFan

I thought cupping was a passing fad from 5 years ago. I always thought they looked like they got attacked by the giant squid from “20,000 Leagues Beneath the Sea”.

  12. J-Dub421

Wayne Rooney is a sack of crap.

  13. RealCatsFan

“Superman SilverGun’ – great tune by STP! One of the best guitar riffs ever, even if the lyrics don’t make any sense. πŸ˜‰

  14. J-Dub421

Polenta is like a finer ground version of grits.
