Well, did Georgia offer EG or not? $64,000 question. What stood out to me after I read 175 comments on the Georgia fan site was that Dawg fans believed he was offered, and that they believed KSR was a reliable source. Of the 175 comments, the majority of the comments were favorable to Gran and his overall body of work.

    1. Realme

I’m skeptical. I mean, Matt gave specifics, and I don’t think he would make it up, but literally no other media confirmed it. Matt reported it. Football Scoop reported that Matt was reporting it. Drew and later Jack interpreted that as Football Scoop confirmed it. Football Scoop then said, “offer” was an overstatement, and then a bunch of other local media started reporting it according to “sources” which I think means they read KSR.

Not sure if Gran confirmed it, or just decided to use an exaggerated rumor for PR.

    2. RealCatsFan

We may never know. Might go down with Loch Ness and the grassy knoll… 😉

    3. Realme

      and all the transfers…

    4. ClutchCargo

All Gran said in his tweet is that he isn’t going anywhere. The whole thing is just the ultimate “news story” in today’s media. KSR constantly cites itself in stories, and it looks like the other sites jumped on board with this one. I have no idea what went down with Gran and UGA, but I’m glad to still have him.

    5. StillBP

My comment from this morning’s post: You have one GA site citing an unnamed source saying they didn’t offer, you have Matt saying they did. But the site who said they didn’t offer OC said they were in talks for him to be a positions coach. So no matter who is right about OC, sounds like both agree GA was interested in Gran in some capacity.

    6. Iamheasyouarehe

      You left out Bigfoot RealCats!

    7. J-Dub421

I doubt there would have been a formal offer without an interview, but it sounds like Georgia at least reached out to Gran to gauge his interest. So, close enough.

    8. runningunnin.454

But, true about the grassy knoll and the grove of trees, RCF. Back and to the left.

    9. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

I don’t what all is true or not, but there is NO WAY Gran would leave to be a position coach unless he was just totally unhappy with something or he got fired, so I’m calling BC (bull crap) on that one. Along the same line, I can’t imagine UGA would think he would. “Hey, come here for a demotion! How about it?” GA is a great program, but no way.

Now, would he & his agent have reached out to them to squeeze more money out of UK, and made them THINK he was offered? Who knows? Jimmy Sexton told Auburn last year that Arkansas was trying to hire Malzahn (and it was pretty well known they were), and that’s how Gus got that huge contract after he beat UGA and Bama.

    10. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

BTW, Kansas is looking for an OC now that Chip Lindsey bolted to take over for Brown at Troy.

I don’t really care about all this. I missed yesterday’s show, so LET’S TALK ABOUT UK’S 2 SPORT STAR!!! 😉
I’m sure I missed some funny talk yesterday about that.

    11. Realme

Yes, they had a good thread about what Matt would be like fishing…

    12. runningunnin.454

Bass fishing recruiting is brutal; and the one-and-dones are ruining the sport.

    13. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

I did read the ST later. Funny.

Still, what I think is funnier is that ESPN lets him cohost an NFL show while at the same time he’s going on his local show and laughing about knowing bupkis about the league.

    14. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

I heard Kash got tossed for targeting. He launched his boat at an opponent.

    15. ClutchCargo

No kidding, cg. I think that says more about ESPN these days than Matt. Aside from the actual sports programming, I can’t bear to watch any of the other stuff.

    16. ClutchCargo

The officials are still reviewing whether he violated the no wake zone, I hear.

    17. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

      He hooked the other guy…literally.

    18. ClutchCargo

cg, that’s a legal “tackle” in bass fishing. I’ll show myself out now…

    19. runningunnin.454

  2. Realme

We’ll know a lot more about how good Gran is after a season without Benny. I’m excited, continuity is really important.

    1. runningunnin.454

True about continuity; but, did you have to say “a season without Benny”. Now I’m depressed, it’s like saying a year without Christmas.

    2. Realme

Yeah, that is depressing. Rodriguez looks Benny-esque to me, so I’m hoping to still have special players in that spot.

    3. J-Dub421

AJ Rose has been solid, and I’m excited about Rodriguez and Smoke.

    4. ClutchCargo

I’ll miss his personality, but we’re good in the RB department. I’m excited that we’re going to have to diversify the offense now that there isn’t a guy to MUST get the ball. How’s that for a silver lining?

    5. J-Dub421

I can cheer you up with only three words, RG. Junior Lynn Bowden.

    6. runningunnin.454

Absolutely, anything can happen when Bowden gets the ball…Mr. Excitement.

    7. RealCatsFan

I’m just looking forward to getting to say that our opponents’ defense got Smoked. 🙂

    8. RealCatsFan

I’m also hoping that the coaches will give Terry the green light to use his legs next year.

    9. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

      No Josh either. *sigh*
Talk about a 1-2 punch with he and Benny!!! I don’t know if we’ll ever see that again, but I hope we do. Maybe Paschal, Oats, Square, etc. and Bowden or a returning RB.

I’m really excited about Bowden, who should be the full-time punt returner, but maybe they don’t want to get him hurt. I dunno.

I’m also excited about Smoke since he’s from 20 minutes up Hwy. 231 from me.

    10. ClutchCargo

I’m actually more bummed about losing Josh Allen and the starting secondary. I know the talent is there, but not sure what it will be like not knowing we can depend on them to make plays.

    11. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Yeah, the secondary is a big issue.

    12. J-Dub421

Losing Josh will hurt of course, but I think we can (kind of) replace him by committee. We have a lot of really good LB’s. Losing our entire secondary is a bigger concern for me.

  3. runningunnin.454

True about Auburn fans, they’re rowdy; but, what else they gonna do in Auburn, Al?
How do you know when there’s a parade in Auburn? All the tractors have their lights on.

    1. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Now, now, Auburn is actually a very nice town.

    2. runningunnin.454

      For a nap.

    3. ClutchCargo

I was in the band at UK, so I traveled to a lot of SEC towns in my time there. I remember Auburn having easily the most polite and friendly fans. Didn’t get to experience the town though, since we actually stayed in Atlanta for that trip. It’s a toss-up between UGA, UF and LSU for the biggest a-hole fans at that time.

    4. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

You are so mean. Are you also BigolBlue?

      JUST KIDDIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    5. runningunnin.454

Nah, BigolBlue is going to take the OC job at Georgia.

    6. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Or the bball job when Cal retires.

  4. J-Dub421

Go Lady Cats! Beat those Vols!

    1. StillBP

That was a fun game to watch. Winning with their 3 best players on the bench for a lot of the game was impressive.

    2. ClutchCargo

I so enjoy seeing the Lady Cats beat UT. Their pride and joy getting beat by us has to hurt a lot, especially when it happens on their home court.

  5. runningunnin.454

Yeah, I watched the women’s game at UT. When UT came back to within four, I said here you go, Vols…only need five more free throws. Love the SEC on the road.

    1. StillBP

got a little worrisome but the Cats just looked like they were not willing to lose that game.

    2. J-Dub421

UT 29 free throws, UK 17 free throws. The refs really tried to help UT too.

    3. runningunnin.454

And that’s with UT “intentionally” fouling at the end of the game. Maci and Rhyne had 3 fouls early in the 2nd quarter.

    4. StillBP

Well there were a lot of head scratching calls and non-calls but I will say Maci got away with a couple of obvious fouls when she already had 4 so I just told myself those were make-up non calls.

  6. secrick

I believe he was offered the job. He is very good at what he does. Winning record in the SEC since he has been coach and ten win season. This guy could do big things at Georgia.

  7. RealCatsFan

UK winning a national championship in women’s basketball? Not much of a chance of that as long as UConn is still where they are. Yes, I know they didn’t win it last year, but they still have a run like UCLA had in the 70’s. They have all the athletes stacked at a similar level.

    1. StillBP

yeah I love our women’s team and have season tickets, but they still can’t compete with UConn. Have enough trouble with Miss St. and Louisville.

    2. runningunnin.454

Yep, UConn gets their 6’8′ and 6’11’ players from Plum Island, NY genetic research center.

  8. RealCatsFan

I’m sorry, but even “reduced” pricing at $120 is way too expensive for most people. I am wondering if a time of reckoning will ever come for the promoters of sporting events, concerts, etc., where they come to realize that demand for what they are selling is not as elastic as they thought. There are only so many “one percenters” who want to go to these events.

    1. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

That is about the same as lowest price I saw on Ticketmaster for the UK game at Auburn ($114). One re-seller was asking for over $800. Are you kidding me? I know this sounds like my mom when she said “I remember when a Coke was a nickel!”, but I saw UK play Auburn 3 or 4 times in the 90s, including 96, and they were almost pocket change prices then. I think I actually paid 5 bucks at least 1 or 2 of those times. Ticket prices have FARRRRRRRRRR outpaced the general rate of inflation, so no one can say “Well, your Cokes went up too.”

This is why I do the eye roll any time I hear coaches, ADs, anyone, moaning about empty seats. I can’t afford at all to go to the game at Auburn, and that makes me sad. It’s not my fault if there aren’t enough rich guys to fill seats that start at $114. I’m a free market guy, but ball game prices are insane nowadays.

    2. ClutchCargo

This is where the luxury suites come into play. Rupp needs that. I mentioned recently that I took my 12 year old son to a UK game, and we had really nice lowers given to us for free. But it’s such a country club kind of place, I would never want to sit there every game.

    3. ClutchCargo

There was a time, not very many years ago, when you could buy basketball season tickets at Vandy for about $75 and be able to go to the UK game and sell the others you weren’t going to use. They wised up eventually and that great deal isn’t nearly as good now.

    4. RealCatsFan

Clutch, I was lucky enough to have a cousin in Lexington with season tickets offer me multiple lower arena tickets for free over the past 4 or 5 years. Got to take my kids to a number of games, and really enjoyed it. But I agree with you that the level of energy in the crowd could be a lot better – would make the whole experience a lot more fun. Kind of reminded me of going to a performance of the Nutcracker or something. 😉

    5. ClutchCargo

I used to send a postcard to the ticket office every October to get entered into the lottery to be able to buy season tickets. There’s no way I would pay that kind of money now. I’d much rather just go to a game or two each season.

    6. Realme

I was offered a chance for season tickets this year at $2600 or something. We didn’t even consider it. Partly because we don’t like to spend money, partly because we like our tv and comfy couch.

    7. RealCatsFan

Hell, even with the free tickets, it was not a cheap outing. Factor in the price of gas to drive from Louisville, parking, grabbing a bite to eat somewhere, and the obligatory ice cream for the kids at the game and I have basically dropped a C-note. They have to realize that average folks have to pay for other stuff too. And we are not poor by any means, so I can only imagine how it looks to folks who are less well off.

  9. J-Dub421

Dude, if you hate UK basketball, get out of my fan base!!!

    1. StillBP

I have a friend who cheers for UK in football and Louisville in basketball. She says UK fans are too annoying about bball so she can’t cheer for us in that sport. So stupid. Not really a close friend, but a friend of a friend.

    2. J-Dub421

I really do not understand people who cheer for different teams in different sports.

    3. Realme

People who are Louisville and UK fans are some of my least favorites.

    4. RealCatsFan

Well, I don’t root for Louisville, but I graduated from there and have a lot of friends who are UL fans, so my level of hate for them is not on the level that it is for a lot of UK fans. I have a much stronger dislike for dook, UNC, Kansas, UCLA, and UConn.

    5. ClutchCargo

I don’t know any people like StillBP describes, but the most annoying for me are the UK basketball/UT football people. There’s a bunch of those along the KY/TN border.

  10. RealCatsFan

Zion is a man child, but dook has had games where he was not that effective. I still think they are going to be knocked out before making the FF this year.

    1. Realme

Do you want someone else to knock them out, or do you want a second crack at them? Having this convo at work a lot.

    2. RealCatsFan

Tough call. I would love to see us knock them out, but not sure if I would be able to survive watching that game without a major cardiac episode. Would probably actually be a lot more fun to see another LeHigh knock them out in the second round. Then maybe this crap about K being the most awsomest coach ever might subside a little bit.

    3. J-Dub421

It would be hilarious to see Duke lose to a Lehigh or a Mercer type team, but part of me (perhaps the stupid part) wants another crack at them. It would be really sweet to do to Duke what UNC did to us a couple of years ago (the Fox/Monk/Bam year).

    4. runningunnin.454

Lehigh’s been there, done that. It’s Stony Brook’s year to send Dook home from the tournament.

    5. Realme

I want another crack at them, but would definitely stroke out before the game even started.

    6. J-Dub421

Oh, I would be a nauseous basket case for days before the game, but I still kind of want another crack at them to redeem ourselves from the opening game debacle. I know Keldon and company wouldn’t lay an egg again.

    7. RealCatsFan

I went back last night and looked at the stats from that game, and it looks like it was mostly an issue that they shot the ball much better than we did. We were pretty even with them for rebounds and assists, but they had 10 steals to our 1, 4 TO’s to our 15, and they hit 12 three pointers to our 4. They have been in double figures for three pointers made maybe twice since then. So from that standpoint, I would absolutely love to have another shot at them, but maybe without so much riding on it.

  11. Realme

Ha ha, Matt starts a list of names game and Ryan says “I don’t know, I don’t care”. Same.

    1. runningunnin.454

Actually, I’ve watched Washington twice this year; Auburn and Texas A&M. They’re on often late night; and, you get the added hilarity when Bill Walton calls the game.

    2. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

His play by play guy getting annoyed when he spent so much time talking to the horn player (or something) during a blowout was great. I don’t know why he was annoyed. I thought they hated calling a blowout game.

  12. Realme

Phew, Matt is defensive about the limb he went out on yesterday.

    1. ClutchCargo

      Just let it go, Matt.

    2. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

“Dawgnation isn’t the Washington Post like KSR is!”

  13. Realme

This guy is describing how I got into UK football. Matt and them reading Bookie Cobbins tweets and talking about player personalities made me start paying attention. And then people kept giving away their tickets because they hated Joker so we went a few times.

This senior class did something else entirely. They made me love the sport of football. I’ll watch an NFL game for the hell of it now. So weird.

    1. J-Dub421

Mark Stoops becoming our head coach is when I really started to get into UK football. Now I’m all in. (I still love basketball though.)

    2. runningunnin.454

I enjoyed the football games when I was at UK; we weren’t good; but loved watching Alfred Collins run.
If you thought we were predictable this past year, everybody knew where the ball was going then.

    3. J-Dub421

We had Couch and Yeast when I was at UK and I went to most of the games. Those were fun!

  14. ClutchCargo

I started getting into UK football back when Freddie Maggard was playing (holy crap, I’m getting old!), and I hadn’t seen very many QB’s who were so completely unafraid of getting hit.

    1. J-Dub421

J-Lo was really fun back on the day and he definitely wasn’t afraid of getting hit.

    2. J-Dub421

Watching opposing teams try to bring J-Lo down was like watching those nature shows where a pack of lions are trying to bring down an elephant. He’d keep his legs moving and they would just keep piling guys on him until they finally got him down. It usually took 4-5 before that happened.
