Jarren Williams Reportedly Receives Ohio State Offer

Kentucky’s next great quarterback has reportedly received an Ohio State offer.  According to Steve Wiltfong, after extensive communication the Buckeyes extended a scholarship offer to UK commit Jarren Williams.

On the face, it appears to be bad news, but let me tell Kentucky fans some good news.

Normally in these situations, the news is revealed via a “Blessed to receive a scholarship offer” Tweet.  That’s not the case this time.  In fact, Williams’ most recent Tweet is from this weekend’s trip to Kentucky.  During the Tennessee game he met and posed for a picture with former Wildcat linebacker and Depth Chart Podcast recurring guest, Jay Dortch.

All indications are that Williams’ visit to Lexington for the Tennessee game went well.  Even though Ohio State and Alabama are still trying to pry Williams away from Lexington, we are just seven and a half weeks away until that door is permanently closed when the early signing period begins on December 20.

Hard to fathom him flipping this late but I think it’s a real possibility. Lots of chatter about Emory Jones flipping from OSU to Bama and Williams from UK to OSU. That would suck.

Being from GA, I would think Bama would be a bigger threat than OSU. If we can just make it to Dec 20th.

He would be crazy to go to OSU. They are overloaded with great QB talent in the upcoming years.

The good news is that, when Emory Jones flips to Alabama, that will spell the end of Jarren’s dialog with Nick Saban. I was more worried about Alabama than I am about Ohio State.

The player has every right to pick the situation that he and his family believe the best for his future. That said, when Jarren re-committed to UK he said he was done with recruiting and last week his dad said that Jarren would be enrolling at UK in January. If it was my kid, I would want his word and mine to mean more.

Agree…like Randall Cobb; his word was his bond.

If I’m him, I’m looking at UK and liking my options because S Johnson will be exiting stage right here in a few months, which leaves an opening at the QB spot. As long as UK continues to win these games that they’re supposed to win, then I don’t really see much reason for him to commit elsewhere. That said, I’m a UK fan and I don’t hide my bias in saying that I really want him to come to UK.

He mentally recommitted as soon as Barker fumbled.

  5. Willis talkin bout....

Its his choice. Does he want to play year 1, or sit and be developed? If he is half as good as he seems to be the UK job will be his next year and its not even close. He will still have Benny and several other skill position players to ensure success. At Bama or OSU he will have to compete with several others and most likely red-shirt

A little insight, he had the offer before he came to Lexington for the Tennessee game.

Seems to me that Urban is recruiting against UK again. Only this time, he seems to have just remembered there is an early signing period.

Yes, Urbane, you are recruiting against UK. How long will your denial continue?

  7. meeksfor3

Totally off topic but doesn’t he look like Paul Pierce when he was younger?

    1. notFromhere

THAT’S who he looks like! Good eye!

  8. timewilltell

Young man needs to think about his future. Couldn’t blame him if he chose a football school.

  9. xXWaddle10Xx

The only reason I would get upset is he re-commuted. It would be one thing if he never did but he did. It’s one thing to not take his word but after recommitting that says something.

  10. AGSlater

Could you blame him for going to OH ST? No

  11. notFromhere

It’s not a matter of blame, but responsibility. If he chooses a school it in fact is his responsibility. If he chose anyone besides the Cars at this point, there would be no one else to bear responsibility besides him

    1. plumloopy

      Indeed. Go Cars.
