James Blackmon Jr. will announce his decision on October 22

James Blackmon is one of the 2014 recruits we’ve heard is likely to pick the Cats, and according to, he’s set an announcement date. Blackmon has tentatively scheduled a press conference for October 22nd, the Tuesday after he visits Kentucky for Big Blue Madness.

Rivals considered the 6’3″ 170 lbs. shooting guard the 23rd best player in the 2014 class. He’s also considering Michigan, Indiana, Louisville, and Michigan State. He told Rivals’ Eric Bossi that he likes Kentucky because it’s on a different level than most programs:

I like Kentucky because it’s really one of the biggest stages in college basketball. Like I said, my dad played there, so that’s a feeling. I just know about Rupp Arena and the fans are crazy there, so I like that.”

Come on down and make your father proud, James.

I remember his daddy. If he can play as good I’ll take him all day long on on weekends too.

I remember his Daddy very well. Great hype, great expectations.

I’ve seen tape on the son, and he has a release quicker than Kyle Wiltjer. I mean, the ball is launched out of his hands almost instantly, and furthermore he has the extremely rare ability to shoot a jumpshot immediately after picking up his dribble. So he will be IMPOSSIBLE to guard and IF he can shoot anywhere close to 40% he will score A LOT of points for UK because he doesn’t require screens or any help in getting open, because he can and will shoot the ball when being guarded. That’s what I’m saying, he can stop and pop like nobody I’ve ever seen.

James will make a great addition to the team! Hope he commits.

A Michigan blog found out about this before KSR? Hmm…

We will be better served by he and Booker than anyone else on the board. Teams that can shoot are always dangerous!

His dad was a good player, hope he comes to UK.I think i remember this right but i may be wrong. I think his dad was thinking of transferring out and when Joe B. called it quits he decided to come back. I may be wrong about that and it doesn’t mean a thing except something to talk about. His dad was very athletic and exciting player.Hope we get him.

Look at the timing. Looks like a really positive sign from the UK side of things. Just like when the kid committed to Kansas yesterday you knew it when it was right after his visit.

Ulis, Booker, and Blackmon, Jr. is a good backcourt with flexibility…now Trey Lyles and Stanley Johnson would be great adds too….and add Karl to the mix and if UK isn’t #1 for 2014, then 1A…
