Is there a chance Blue Smith Picks Kentucky Tomorrow?

I’m telling you there’s a chance Blue Smith picks Kentucky over Ohio State, but the odds are not in the Wildcats’ favor.

For a long time, the Cats were the favorite to land the nation’s top-ranked athlete.  The 6’6″ wide receiver from Dayton, Ohio received his first scholarship offer from Kentucky.  Once his teammate, four-star defensive end Alex Reigelsperger, committed to UK, the Cats had another recruiter on the Wayne High School football team.  Smith visited Lexington frequently throughout the spring and summer, and things were trending toward UK until about a month ago.

Things changed after Smith took a visit to Columbus on July 21.  Urban Meyer initially wanted Smith to play tight end for the Buckeyes, which gave UK an advantage, but in that visit Meyer changed his tune and laid out a plan for Smith to play receiver.

Since then, every recruiting analyst has picked Smith to Ohio State.  The Buckeyes currently have a 94-6 advantage in the 247 Crystal Ball.  As Rivals’ Josh Helmholdt explained to Ben Roberts, there’s no certainty Smith picks Ohio State, it’s just hard to convince an in-state prospect to turn down the perennial powerhouse.

“If you think about it in horse racing terms: Ohio State is a closer.  They close down the stretch, and it’s tough for kids in their own backyard to say no.”

Helmholdt added: “I don’t have enough intel to tell me he’s for sure going to Ohio State.  It’s certainly been nip and tuck. Even Ohio State people aren’t going to say that, over the last five months, it’s been all Ohio State.

“It’s been a back and forth battle. So, it would not surprise me if he went with (UK) on Sunday. I don’t expect it. But, it wouldn’t surprise me.”

There’s a chance Kentucky fans will receive a spectacular surprise during Smith’s 1:30 game on ESPN, but don’t count on it.

I hate Ohio State and I love UK. However, if Blue Smith picks Kentucky over OSU, then he will prove that he’s the biggest idiot on the planet. The #1 athlete in America should go where his talents will be showcased on the biggest stage, not the perennial middle of the pack, Franklin America Music City Bowl attendee.

I agree but think about this. The reason teams like OSU, Bama, FSU, Clemson, etc. are really good is because they can get kids like this to be a different position player. Can you imagine this dude as. TE?!?!? He would be a cheat code! UK would utilize him as a WR which is what he wants. OSU changed there tune but I would bet money that in year two they recruit over him and put him as a TE. At that point he wont transfer and Meyer has him by the balls. Not saying he wont be good as a WR but an athlete of his nature at TE would be ridiculous. He stays with OSU and then finds out Urban is a liar.

I hope the mods remove the original post here. There is no place for this type of trash on a Kentucky board. I get sick of reading about how these good players wanting to come to KY are crazy, and I get sick of the condescending attitude towards our football program. I am a season ticket holder for the first time, and I am proud of what the KY staff has done to improve the program and team. The way I see it, if a person doesn’t like the football program or university, go find another team and for sure go find another forum.

I think it would be a great move for this kid to come to Kentucky. He’ll get a good education, be part of a family atmosphere, have access to a state-of-the-art training facility, and be a part of an up-and-coming football program with a staff that’s determined to produce a winner in the best conference anywhere. What’s idiotic about that?

We would say the same thing about elite basketball players too, except instead of Ohio State it’s UK or Duke. Top players should go to the best situation for them (which, theoretically could be UK if they think they’ll be a star here vs a role player at Bama or OSU). OSU has yet to miss the playoffs, UK has yet to win a conference title, if we’re being honest, we still have a long way to go to get to their level.

KSR fan bait post. Love to see the kid in Lexington but he’s staying home with the Buckeyes. KSR knows this. Just business as usual for writers.

I understand where you are coming from. But, with all due respect, I wouldn’t say that. Not all elite players go to the big name schools. The NBA and NFL is littered with players that came from colleges that many have never heard of. For the OP to say a top level player is an idiot for coming to Kentucky is grossly inaccurate, highly opinionated, and counterproductive if one is truly a fan of the university and its sports programs. To say “I love UK” and then to say one of our most highly touted prospects would be an “idiot” for coming here–I call Bul Sht on that one.

Is he going to “verbal commit” or sign? Because if and i say if OSU has a subpar year and UK has a good season and Jarren Williams stays committed he could flip.

It’ll just be verbal. Can’t sign yet.

    A gloriously Dawson-free KSR. Lovely!
