Federal indictment claims Rick Pitino directed payments to players

How will Rick lie his way out of this one?

Among the indictments handed down yesterday by a federal grand jury regarding the bribery scandal in college basketball is a passage that alleges Rick Pitino (aka Coach-2) not only knew about, but directed payments to players. From NBC News:

But, but, but, Rick Pitino passed a lie detector test, so surely he is innocent, right?!?

Can someone check on Dickie V to see how he is handling the news?

on the positive side for him, his cell mate might be able to take his tattoo down like the U-6 banner

Hahaha. Yep that tat could be removed for the price of a salad.

But, but, but, I don’t understand he passed a lie detector test 😂

It’s going to take a Mardi Gras Miracle-like comeback to get out of this tight spot. And the 1993-94 Wildcats aren’t walking through that door.

+2 for multiple old school references

Isn’t it about time we stop eviscerating Rick Pitino? The guy made some poor choices, failed to accept responsibility for those poor choices, been publicly shamed, and fired from his livelihood because of it. He’s done. He rescued UK’s program from the gates of hell, and those full court press teams he had at UK were fun to watch. We should remember the positive things he’s accomplished, instead of dwelling on all the mistakes.

WTFE! He is clearly not the same person he was when he left UK.

      To answer your question, no.

    3. CATandMONKEY

      Surely this is sarcasm.

I don’t agree with his reasoning, but the idea of leaving Pitino alone is starting to become more appealing for me. At some point you have to recognize that the horse is not only dead, but has turned into a gory puddle of ground meat and dirt because of the continued beating.

Besides, in some small way I’m starting to feel bad for Rick and I can’t allow that to happen.

If he would show even the slightest sign of humility, then I think a lot of us would cut him some slack. It’s his arrogance and constant BS that makes it so entertaining to watch him self destruct.

    6. Rixter

We’re allowed to love those teams and hate Rick Pitino.

    7. catdaddyd

Well this should be enough evidence for just cause not to pay him the 44 million of tax payer dollars he’s trying to get. I still believe the is audio /video evidence out there of him doing this.

  5. UKinIN

Easy to say hard to do when Pitino is constantly caught lying. Telling the truth once in a while might have allowed him to walk away with a bit of dignity and a lot less ridicule.

  6. Catcasey1

Always a great coach BUT He would rather climb a tree to tell a lie then stand on the ground and tell the truth

  7. TB112162

Pitino has no shame. You know how you can tell when he is lying his lips move

    1. Rembrandt

Obviously Pitino is a serial liar. We know that. Jurich is also gone, either because he also knew (likely) or else because he was running a deeply corrupt athletics department that could not pass muster under NCAA rules governing institutional control. But here is another domino. In that filthy climate, is it credible to believe Bobby Petrino is running a clean program? I don’t think so.

Too bad John Gotti passed, they could have been perfect cell mates at the Federal Prison in Marion, IL.

  9. Ez21

Bob Sac that man knew if he went to UL he’d be hated by UK fans and that’s what he chose to do. He’s lied repeatedly and continues to do so. That sob deserves no sympathy. Who’s indictment was this info from? No UL coaches got indicted right, so where did this info come from?

    1. Mathlete

The info came from the FBI’s indictment files, parts were apparently unsealed recently and this was part of the new stack. The original intel came from a recorded and videotaped conversation in a hotel room where one of the FBI’s informants was wearing a wire, which is apparently still a thing that happens in 2017 despite having highly sophisticated and concealable recording equipment available and a basically infinite budget to purchase such things

  10. Ez21

Can the FBI actually prove he was in a room, on a call, etc with Gatto or players talking about $ exchanging hands w taped evidence tho? If not he’s just gonna continue doing what he has been and saying they make it about me bc I’m the big name. That’s the reason he he told Meiners this all involved him.

    1. Mathlete

The FBI doesn’t need to prove anything about Pitino unless he committed a federal crime, which he (so far) hasn’t been accused of. The NCAA on the other hand…

  11. JohnnyCheeseSticks

He’ll still deny everything to the bitter end.

  12. ukblue22

With these revelations of the corruption at the top of the program, does make it that much easier for the NCAA to come in and remove the 2013 banner?

  13. catsarerunnin

He better hope his cell mate only lasts 15 seconds too….

Somebody check on Luether. He’s probably really mad right now. 😂😂😂

      Awesome Big Board!

This alleged payment to Bowen’s family came while Loserville was on probation for major violations. Assuming the payment actually happened and Pitino participated in it, that’s major violation while on probation for major violations. The NCAA would have grounds to shut the basketball program down for a period of time.

    Shut ’em down!

Or Terry Meiners and a host of Card fans who are into hero worship instead of being objective.
