E.J. Montgomery includes Kentucky on list, will visit Duke

After missing on Zion Williamson, Kentucky is now recruiting E.J. Montgomery, the top big man left in the 2018 class. This morning, Kentucky made Montgomery’s list of eleven schools, and his father told Evan Daniels they’ve been hearing a lot from the Cats in recent weeks.

“They’ve been involved for a month or so now,” Montgomery Sr. said. “We first heard from them a month ago. They’ve been talking to me and EJ, we’ve been texting back and forth. They are planning to go to a game as well.”

The 6-10 Montgomery originally committed to Auburn back in 2016, but severed ties once former Tigers assistant Chuck Person was named in the FBI’s probe into college basketball. The recently named McDonald’s All-American is on a tear this season, averaging 26 points and 14 rebounds per game. He had 39 points and 15 points last night.

Now, the bad news. Even though Duke will be LOADED next season, his father says they still plan to take their first official visit to Durham. A trip to Kentucky was not mentioned, but his father said they plan to narrow his list of eleven to five in a week or so and schedule more visits.

Ugh. C’mon kid…please don’t go to Duke.

The kid looks like a Duke player.

    2. 1UKFAN6

Your right on that. He looks like a Duke player for sure.

Duffel bag drop about to happen.

    1. syrin23

I wonder how much they will pay to get him.

  3. Cryingtheblues

Damn!! Come on Cal do your magic and bring this kid to Lexington..

    1. 4everUKblue

      We don’t pay players here.

    2. Cryingtheblues

Don’t think he was referring to paying anyone.

    3. Cryingtheblues

      I

    4. Cryingtheblues

You don’t have a clue what goes on!!

    5. 4everUKblue

I was referring to your comment about Cal doing his magic. We can’t overcome programs paying for play because we don’t do that here.

    6. Cryingtheblues

Oh ok I misread your statement. Sorry!! I agree, Cal doesn’t have to pay people to come here.

Go to Puke and ask to speak with Bolden. I think he will speak to the duffel bag not being worth sitting the bench.

He’s going to Duke. I give up.

  6. Chacosrule

    Duke

  7. Kat4Life

I wouldn’t hold my breath for this guy coming, but the 2018 and 19 version of Nick Richards will be more than enough

  8. timewilltell

Anyone surprised he included KY in his list? What kid does not?

  9. Jiminy Crickets

The “we don’t pay players” comments are from the exact people that made fun of the rest of the country 5 years ago when they were saying we paid players

    1. 4everUKblue

I made the we don’t pay players above and I did not make fun of anyone 5 yrs ago or even 1 yr ago. You’re not the kind of fan BBN needs.

I think Duke has their picks list us so they can mess with us.

EJ, whatever you do, don’t stare into the eyes of Count K, or the vampire will steal your soul for eternity. And that guy who hangs around him holding duffel bags full of money who kind of looks like the devil? That because he IS the devil. Resist, son, resist! Stay away from the dark side, and come to the sunny side of the Bluegrass.

  12. RealCatsFan

And, yeah, dook is loaded, but they are particularly loaded at the forward spot. Can’t understand why he is even considering them. Not a lot of room for court time, unless the vamp is planning to send Bolden packing.

He wouldn’t start at either place

    1. ukbradstith

He’d start at Duke, and most likely for us too. Look at what Duke has returning at the 4/5 spot. It ain’t much. They actually probably “need” him worse than they do. He’s most likely battling SKJ and Richards for minutes for us. That being said, I really want him.

    2. RealCatsFan

I disagree regarding the 4-spot for Duke. I think they could easily slide Zion to that spot. Not sure what they have coming back to the 5, but Bolden will be a 3-year player who could fill that spot.

As bad as he has been, wouldn’t be shocked to see an NBA team take a chance on Richards based on raw talent alone.

We all know how this ends…

Mrs TT: this is what KY basketball has become? Pleading with recruits “please don’t go to Duke”.

  16. my2sense

What’s this “please don’t go to Duke?” When we have to start begging kids to come to our program then we need to fold the tent and stop playing altogether.

Duke had a great class last year and lost in the second round. If we can keep most of our team together I like our chances next year. Johnson and Herro are big time scorers/shooters. They are what we’ve been missing. Johnson just moved up to #6 in the rankings btw. Our fans are sleeping on him for some reason.
