Digger Phelps thanks Big Blue Nation for praying for him

Digger Phelps took the mic early (shocking) and was met with a chorus of boos from the Rupp Arena crowd. Phelps quickly changed the tone though when he gave a genuine “thank you” to the Big Blue Nation for all of their prayers while he was battling bladder cancer. Phelps then went on to try to pump the crowd up for tonight by saying, “You will be the reason this Kentucky team beats Florida tonight. This young team….You all can end up in Dallas in the Final Four.”

I once successfully requested "The Wobble" to be played 6 times at one wedding.

Well done by UK fans, and well said by Phelps. Cancer is dreadful and, in a more just world, would be something reserved for the world’s truly heinous living evils.

Someone ask Digger where he came up with the idea of holding a marker, I think he stole my move.

Classy response from the Rupp crowd after he made the comments. He is actually a good guy on a personal basis but we tend to judge him on his professional career etc. We all need to keep him in our prayers.

My wife was diagnosed with bladder cancer while pregnant with our daugter ten years ago. Mama and baby came through fine, but we will never forget how blessed we are. Prayers to Digger for good health, no matter who he cheers for.

As a bleed blue CATS fan all my life there is no one I dislike worse than Digger, Bobby Knight, Coach K, Dean Smith, Bill Self and Billy D. With that being said, I would never wish any type of cancer on anyone, after watching both of my parents die from breast and liver cancer and the way they had to suffer I can only wish and pray that Digger or no one else would ever have to go through this. I’ve read somewhere that Dean Smith was going through somthing terrible for the last few years and I only wish the best for him also.

Digger phelps has never been one of my favorites,, especially after the ” LISTEN TO ME” in Vanderbilt . But after hearing of his battle with cancer ,, it doesn’t matter what he has said or done,, I can personally say that without a doubt no one has ever done anything to deserve to be touched with the terrible, terrible disease. So how can i personally say ? It is hard for me to even sit here and type this as I,, myself am dealing with this hateful disease,, I go into surgery Friday morning at Vanderbilt for kidney cancer. GOD BLESS YOU DIGGER ..I don’t mention my own health problems to be lifted,,, I only mention them to express the understanding of others that are,, or have been touched by it.

    GO BIG BLUE !!!!!
