Diallo’s mentor says reports are false, no decision has been made

Wait just a minute…

Hamidou Diallo may not be ready to announce his decision after all.

Adam Zagoria spoke to Diallo’s mentor, Rob Diaz, who said reports of Diallo’s departure from UK are inaccurate.

“No the family and I will be meeting with him next week to make a decision on what he feels is best for him,” Diaz told Zagoria. “Anything else out as of now is just a rumor.’

Report: Hamidou Diallo to enter the draft, hire an agent

Jon Rothstein of CBSSports.com cited multiple sources in his report of Diallo entering the draft and hiring an agent, so we have a classic showdown of contrasting messages here. Whatever the case may be, it’ll likely be a little longer before he hear anything from Diallo himself.

Personally I would love for Diallo to stay another year. It’s not easy sitting out a year then playing at top efficiency. I suspect we would see a much better Hamidou next year if he were to come back. Regardless, I like the kid and wish only the best for him whatever he decides to do.

I would also like to see Diallo stay another year. But I believe he is gone. Diallo and Gilgeous Alexander on the way out the door is why we are seeing so many high school guards suddenly being connected with UK.

  2. KYjellyRoll

He returns and averages 15 ppg and 3 app. With 6 rpg

  3. BBNDan7

    He’s still gone

  4. lbaker0050

He’s gone!! Why prolong the announcement?!! Just announce it already!!

  5. kentuckybackupplayer

He should just do the China contract now, he can’t make an NBA roster at his current skill level.

Yeah you’re right, when you have a dream that some internet know-it-alls say you can’t achieve, you should just give up. Especially when they’re judging you after only seeing you play one season. Those coaches and scouts are just blowing smoke in the air. Take something less than what you want, Hami, this guy ^ knows what’s best. I hope you aren’t a parent, your poor children if you are

Besides a great vertical, can Hami outplay ANY of next years guards…Herro/Quickley/Hagans/Johnson? He may very well feel his minutes go down, not up….

Note: This was not tagged under “Basketball”. While it appears on the front page, those who have the BB page bookmarked might not see the story.

Thanks for the update! Hope he returns, but want what’s best.

This is the same for Nick Richards. Until the player tweets/instagrams/says it, we have no clue who is coming or going. I’m still of the assumption Kentucky only has 4 players on the roster for next season; Quickley, Johnson, Herro and Montgomery.

He’s projected in 2nd round. Horrible move IMO.

Hami, stay one more year ball out for a whole season like the Buffalo game and you could be a lottery pick, no question. Next years draft is gonna be a lot weaker than this years.

Looks like Kevin Knox “decision” part II.

Whoopie, maybe he can still jump center with our 5 guard lineup.

Diallo is an interesting case study.

If he played safety on a football field he would absolutely do incredible things. However he wouldn’t last long… as he’d give up the long ball all game long.

He takes too many chances. Doesn’t know how to stay home like a disciplined defender.

Then on offense he thinks ‘his jumpshot’ needs to be on display. You can tell that people have gotten into his mind about it… to ‘prove them wrong.’

You can’t play basketball like that. Each play, and each possession is different. You have to flow (while remaining vigilant & disciplined).

He’s an incredible talent that needs multiple years of development to achieve the discipline necessary to play professional. He also holds himself back (meaning it will take longer) since he fights his development (learning & growing) by staying rigid (with his mindset) like ‘he knows’ what’s right. He doesn’t know… he needs to be a student to learn.

Now can you use a curling analogy to describe his basketball skills with a totally unrelated sport?

We gone. And I’m good with it.

    1. Sergeant

      He gone. Not we gone.

  15. Rixter

Am I the only one who sees a pattern here? Announcement made kid is going pro. Family member speaks up and says no – that decision has not been made yet. Later, player announces he is going pro.

  16. Dark Soul

He knows he is going pro just like Knox did.

Here’s the thing, if he comes back he needs to be clear Brent with coming back for 2-3 more years. If he’s leaving after next year no matter what he may as well just go. He won’t be on a roster if he leaves this year. No chance.

    1. TBW3011

      *content! Not “clear Brent”. Lol
