This afternoon, John Calipari and Joel Justus traveled to Memphis to check in James Wiseman, Kentucky’s top target in the 2019 class. Wiseman, considered the No. 1 player by ESPN and 247 Sports, deemed the visit a “success” via social media:
Wiseman was the first member of the 2019 class to receive a scholarship offer from Calipari and the Cats seemed to be in the driver’s seat in his recruitment until Penny Hardaway, Wiseman’s EYBL and high school coach, took the job at Memphis. While the thought of following his old coach to his new job must be tempting, Wiseman reportedly still favors Kentucky, according to Rivals’ Eric Bossi.
“Wiseman wouldn’t name a leader,” Bossi wrote today, “But most recent behind-the-scenes talk has John Calipari and the Wildcats as the favorite over Wiseman’s former high school and summer coach Penny Hardaway.”
Visits like today surely help. Also, we can’t definitively say from the picture, but I’m willing to bet money Calipari’s on his tippy-toes. It’s just what he does with Wiseman:
