BREAKING: UofL sues Rick Pitino seeking lost profits for NCAA vacated games and ticket sales

Back in November, Rick Pitino filed a lawsuit against UofL worth roughly $35 million for breach of contract following his termination from the school.

Tonight,  Jason Riley of WDRB has reported the University of Louisville has officially filed a lawsuit against Rick Pitino, asking for monetary damages from NCAA vacation of wins, ticket sales, donations, and bonuses.

UofL claims Pitino admitted wrongdoing in his epic ESPN interview with Jay Bilas, where he took “full responsibility” for his hiring decisions. They also argue Pitino knew about Brian Bowen’s mother living in the Galt House and did not report the potential violation to compliance staff.

After UofL had their hearing today with the NCAA, it’s obvious things did not go well at all and the school will look to earn back every cent lost when sanctions officially hit in January.

This situation just got a whole lot uglier..

I need to sue UL for degrading my degree from there. School is a joke.

    1. 502CodeRed

Not sure how athletics and your classes are related. Maybe if you were a UNC athlete but I dare to guess you have no degree. Goofy comment.

    2. 502CodeRed

Like the doctors at the med school who couldn’t care less about sports suddenly have a worthless degree based on a basketball team. LOL

    3. brian

This is going beyond sports at this point; it’s an administration thing. And yes, my engineering degree still holds; it’s called sarcasm.

    4. 502CodeRed

My bad. Your computer science colleagues over a Speed need to create a universal sarcasm font. It’s badly needed nowadays.

  2. ClutchCargo

    Not uglier. More beautiful.

  3. 502CodeRed

Both sides posturing for a settlement.

  4. Smyrna_Cat

Yep, looks like the road to a settlement. But I hope UL drags Pitino through the coals. He will find that is pathological lying doesn’t do well in court!

    1. 502CodeRed

I hope they do too. They can afford to fight a lot longer than he can. He might get something but I guarantee it wont be $35M. Then again he might pay out the butt too.

    2. huck

Drug through the coals sounds fine to me, but keep in mind it is our “court/ lawyer” system. Has there ever been anything in the USA that is as widespread and more corrupt than our legal system now? What if Pitino, does what most people do that have money, when they have to go to court. Especially money that wasn’t earned in the first place…. we have found out through the years…. but still some don’t recognize that.

    Can you say…Bye bye Banner?!?!?!

    1. Bobbum Man

That’s a given at this point, but still the best part!

    2. KYcats11

Ready for them to make it official. Tired of UL fans saying it isn’t gone.

    3. omegagavin

Not if you believe what you read on their board. They think it stays.

Keep checking here, the official record. Right now, they still have U of L as the 2013 champions, I’m sure that’s pending the appeal.

When it becomes ‘VACATED’, we celebrate!

    5. 502CodeRed

Sometimes I check the official record as well to see if UK really has a NC in football like they claim. Evidently the NCAA disagrees.

Goodluck, I don’t see the school winning this

    1. Mathlete

He and his staff are directly and deliberately responsible for the school losing all of that income by blatantly violating NCAA rules, not to mention the lasting damage to the school’s reputation. They have a better case than he does for sure

  8. true2blue

Maybe not such a great idea to do so many interviews and radio appearances after all. Then again he’s done this before when he stated “the university spent $0 in recruiting Brian Bowen”. ROFL. It just keeps getting better.

  9. wooddoug

Imagine going through life with a tattoo of the school who successfully sued you for millions.

    1. ClutchCargo

Pitino: screwed, blued and tattooed. LMFAO!

  10. ukkatzfan

guessing the asst who hired Katina would either be the first witness or the first casualty.

    1. J-Dub421

Please, please let it be witness. Someone subpoena Andre Mcgee.

    2. 4everUKblue

Do you think Andrea will talk after being paid off?

    3. J-Dub421

If he gets subpoenaed to testify he won’t have a choice. If he didn’t show up to court, they would issue a warrant for his arrest and he’d be arrested. If he showed up but didn’t cooperate and testify, he’d be held in contempt and jailed.

  11. 4everUKblue

    *Andre…sorry

    2. BigBlueBass

Just call em Like I see it….. KSR is louisville obsessed, little brother should never get this much attention.

    3. UK Big Board Update

Yeah, because the Duke sites wouldn’t write this about UNC, NC State wouldn’t write this if it happened at Duke and UNC, Alabama wouldn’t write this about Auburn, Florida wouldn’t write this about Florida State, South Carolina wouldn’t write this if it happened to Clemson, UCLA wouldn’t if it happened at USC.

This post has over 35 comments. A kid we offered a basketball scholarship to has 6. This topic interests people.

You basically sound like a butt hurt crybaby.

Matt Jones doesn’t come to your job and tell you how to flip burgers.

  13. secrick

The banner should come down soon but you want hear about it. May already be down .Don’t think they are going to call the media and say we are taking the banner down today.

    1. ClutchCargo

I can’t imagine it will come down until all the appeals are worked through. But I would definitely plan a watch party around something like that!

  14. MasterBurglar

Do you think there would be a “buyout” and renaming of Manardi Hall, sometime in the near future?

  15. TheNewOriginal

I have been a UK fan for 55 years, have actually gotten into fights in other states over barroom comments about our coaches. Unfortunately, social media has shown that we have more than our fair share of fans that have absolutely 0 class. I really dislike Jurich (from everything that I have seen and read in the media) and Pitino is (and has always been) a pathological liar. But, celebrating other’s misfortunes…?

    1. UK Big Board Update

You JUST SAID you’ve gotten into BAR FIGHTS over comments about our coaches.
