2019 five-star forward Jaden McDaniels commits to Washington

2019 five-star forward Jaden McDaniels has made his decision.

As expected, the 6-foot-10 prospect out of Federal Way, WA has decided to stay home and play for the Washington Huskies.

He made the following post on Twitter this evening:

McDaniels, a consensus top-15 prospect, chose Washington over Kentucky, San Diego State, Texas, and UCLA.

Over the last several weeks, we’ve seen multiple momentum shifts in this recruitment. Washington was seen as the favorite for the majority of his senior season, but recently, Kentucky took over as the (temporary) favorite.

In the end, though, the draw of staying at home to play in front of friends and family every night won out. Instead of playing in the spotlight several hundred miles away in Lexington, he’ll have the ability to distance himself from the pressure at Washington one more year before making the jump to the NBA.

We’ll have more on the decision and what it means for Kentucky moving forward in Pilgrim’s Insider Notes tomorrow afternoon.

It’s football season. Who cares about guys that didn’t come here and if did, stay a year and we celebrate an elite eight. Denny crum an enemy, but not since he left, he was a stand up dued. God speed and hookers for you bud.

eat a snickers buddy. you’re not yourself when you’re hangry.

  2. SkooCats493

    Good luck and Godspeed buddy.

  3. UKinMKY

He’s in for a rude awakening when he gets to the league and has all eyes in the city on him for at least 41 games a year. Better pray the Supersonics come back so he can keep staying home as long as he wants.

  4. UK Maine-iac

Hope he has a good year. Seems like a kid who wants his game to speak to the masses instead of social media. I respect that. Would’ve loved to have had him, but we’ll be ok.

It doesn’t mean anything for Kentucky so no need to talk anymore about it. You writers here are like a crazy ex girlfriend… just let it go

Best of luck Jaden, I hope you made the best decision for you.

I think some of these commitments proves that the chance to win a national championship means nothing anymore, it’s all about playing one year and going to the NBA and getting rich.

    1. mashburnfan1

yep, same reason the ones that think they are one and done come here. Play a year and go to NBA, worked out for some and not so much for many.

    2. 4everUKblue

I feel sorry for anyone who has to be around you, you’re a pathetic little man.

Are you guys really complaining about them posting this saying it doesn’t involve UK so who cares? Lol would’ve loved to have him in Lex but glad we can move on. Unfortunately, it seems as it’s a swing and miss on our 2 last major targets with him and Blackshear likely turning pro. Everyone is so anti one and dones but so quick to forget about our returners when we are in the middle of a recruiting battle like this.

-Nick has shown flashes of ridiculous potential. He’s been very frustrating as well but all the potential in the world.
-EJ seems more rounded than Nick, but green and filled with potential.

Those 2 returning with any improvement at all and Kentucky will be very very good. If they both make a big leap this year, Kentucky is ridiculously dangerous.

It’s football season now but I like my team

    1. makeitstop

Yep. Can’t wait til August. And when we do tip it off, we have a damn good team.

We’ll be fine without the kid but if he thinks he’s a high draft pick next year just bc he’s a top 15 guy, think again. Ask Marques Bolden. or Malik Newman, Antonio Blakeney, Ivan Rabb etc etc. Where u play does matter. Of course, it’s no guarantee and it’s not like he can’t make it there he just won’t get the same exposure, NBA like routine, coaching, practice competition, skills around him, etc etc. But good luck. It’s not for everyone. See u in the first round.

    1. 4everUKblue

Good points, so glad dUKe go Bolden and not us. We definitely dodged a bullet on that one.

    2. mashburnfan1

Yea and ask Richards, he Twins, Quade, SKJ, POY, Gabriel and the many here that also dropped in NBA status. We have had as many, and more, misses than anyone so please use all players in your examples. He should have gone to Murray St, that coach took a non ranked no offer kid to the #2 pick.

    3. Bobbum Man

Lol 7 kids out of how many, funny how u leave out SGA, Harrelson, humphries, ullis, tremendously helped Patterson, Darius Miller and Liggin’s stock and u list Gabriel lol, he was thought to be a 3-4 year player, as was guys like Cauley-Stein… not sure what he’s supposed to do with someone like quade the guy had no basketball IQ and just jacked up shots not sure how that’s coaches fault…. but I know ur just an anti cal hater as u can clearly see from ur seemingly bipolar differences in football and basketball posts

    4. 4everUKblue

mashbum is a K fanboy, you can’t say anything against anything dUKe without hearing from this jackass. He has yet to make a valid argument.

    5. 4everUKblue

Oh and by the way douche bag, you missed the whole point of my comment. Bolden, who was a 5 star, has been riding the bench for 3 yrs with no substantial contribution to date. Which one of the names you named is was a 5 star who rode the bench for four years without making any contribution. Once again mashbum changed the narrative to fit his own agenda, just another day on the haterade.

Thank goodness. Hopefully this is the last time he’s mentioned on KSR (though I’m positive it won’t be).

Hope we have heard the last of McDaniels on this site.

Me too…but you know we haven’t.

  12. Racerr11

As many or more misses, we have some goofy no Knowledge fans. Goofy goofy

  13. VirginiaCat

We will be good next year. Good enough to win a lot of games and make it to at least the Sweet 16 and hopefully the Elite Eight. Similar to the last four years. Not like 2015 and earlier, but still fun.

  14. JT55

Going to be very thin in the frontcourt. Hopefully Cal has another ace up his sleeve.
