Kentucky wide receiver Zy’Aire Hughes made his first court appearance this afternoon after a weekend arrest.
Accused of assaulting his girlfriend late Sunday night, Hughes appeared in Fayette District Court via video conference from the Fayette County Detention Center to enter a not guilty plea for fourth-degree assault.
During the arraignment Hughes agreed to have no contact with the victim. He was released from jail to his mother and will return to court December 12.
Hughes’ standing with the football team remains uncertain. Mark Stoops released the following statement Sunday afternoon:
“We’re aware of the situation. We’re in the process of gathering information. Proper behavior is an expectation of our program and we will address this as the facts are determined.”
