Stoops said the offsides will “haunt him for the rest of his life”

UK Football Fan Day

Mark Stoops was visibly upset, to say the least, when Kentucky’s successful onside kick attempt was called back for offsides against Mississippi State.  But it’s time to move on, put the loss behind him, and prepare for Alabama State, right?  Well, not quite.

Stoops said on his radio show Monday night that the offsides call on the onside kick will haunt him for the rest of his life.

He addressed the mistake earlier in the day too, telling reporters, “I thought we gave ourselves another opportunity to win the game last week with a special teams play. Coach Peveto had it set up; he worked it all week. It’s a game changer, and we’re six inches offsides, for no reason. I addressed it personally on Thursday and Friday. That’s not very smart.”

But haunt him for the rest of his life?  That’s intense. Almost as intense as his initial reaction…

It should’ve been a no-call, but the refs had to insert themselves into the game. As many have pointed out, that same thing occurs on kick-offs all of the time.

Stoops is doing a good job of making the players be accountable for their actions. The only way they will play better is if they learn to focus on their assignments. These kind of plays can have a major impact on games.

Coach Stoops is competitive in spirit just like his father and his brother. He comes from a very highly competitive family. We should not be surprised by his occasional emotional outbursts. It is a good sign.

I remember seeing Coach Brooks angry…. It’s all for the good of the team. Learn and move on…

That gif is awesome! I only wish it was a little clearer.

    Wow, what a comment.

How do you think the kid who was offsides, feels now? These are young men who bust their tails for you. Make him feel like Bartman, the guy who caught the foul ball in Chicago Cubs baseball. Way to label the kid, the kid who haunted UK football.

Maybe start the guy at safety. He’s way better than the kid who cost you two touchdowns last game. That haunts me!

Maybe if you had him in the you wouldn’t have even been in the position where you needed an onside kick.

If he was serious, he might want to think about getting another life. A UK football coach better be ready for occasional disappointment.
