For the first time in Mark Stoops’ career, he watched his players walk out to shake hands prior to kickoff, only to be denied by the opposing team.
That’s what happened Saturday night at South Carolina, he said, when the captains from each side met at midfield to touch gloves.
“They didn’t shake our hands to start,” Stoops told the media in his postgame press conference. “I’ve never seen that. Captains don’t shake our hands. They wanted to go at it. But we were ready to go, too.”
Stoops also mentioned the poor sportsmanship during his on-field interview with the SEC Network after the game and again on the UK postgame show. It’s clear he felt disrespected and it only threw fuel on the Cats’ fire after they were disrespected all week leading up to the game.
