NFL.com ranks Bud Dupree the 5th “most freakish” athlete in college football

The word most often used to describe Bud Dupree these days is “freak.” The senior defensive end has been the star of the UK defense for the past several years, and both Mark Stoops and DJ Eliot said this spring that the work he’s been doing in the weight room have made him even more explosive, athletic, and straight up “freakish.” So, it should come as no surprise that NFL.com ranks Dupree fifth on their list of the 14 Most Freakish Athletes in College Football:

5. Alvin “Bud” Dupree, DE/OLB, Kentucky
Particulars: 6-4, 259, senior
Buzz: He stood out on a mediocre UK defense last season, finishing with seven sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss. He also stands out for other reasons. His vertical jump has been measured at 40 inches and his broad jump at 10-foot-7. And get this: UK uses the “Catapult” monitoring system and Dupree was clocked at 20.5 miles per hour in a game last season. Dupree also helped his Irwinton (Ga.) Wilkinson County High basketball team to a state title as a senior.

During spring practice, Dupree told me that he’s ready to lead the defense this fall under the motto of “play like savages,” and said his work ethic in the weight room is contagious, to the point offseason workouts are now a competition. Judging by this picture he posted a few weeks ago, that hard work seems to be paying off for everyone.

I always wonder where they find the giant chains for these photo shoots.

It’ll be interesting to see how Elam changes his body. As big as he looked he also looked somewhat, lets say not as refined. The eye test doesn’t always translate to playing well, ie looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane.

They use the chains for weight training, so that’s why they are there

    1. Charlie Hustle

Bingo. Mrs. TT, they put the chains on the ends of the barbells while they’re lifting so that as they lift the bar further off the ground more of the chain is off the ground too, making the raw weight they’re lifting heavier as they go through each rep. Not sure if there’s a proven benefit, but it makes sense in theory and it looks cool, so why not?

    Anchor chains? Little ones.

Is it just me, or is that the least motivational slogan of all time

    1. TAXman

It’s more of an “insight” than it is a “motivator”. It’s true, but reading that doesn’t make me want to go out and train.

    2. C'mon Danny

You don’t have to have motivational slogans on all four walls. Its called fuel for thought.

  5. Bennett

Who is the guy left of Hyde, standing up? Thanks

  6. REALLY

Take a look at who is #1 on that list. : )

    1. Okay?

      Your point?

    2. BBNfootball!!!

As someone who passionately hates Louisville, I must unbiasedly say that Devante Parker is the real deal. I don’t think he belongs #1 on the list, but i think he could have an outstanding pro career.

Hatcher looks further along then I imagine Bud did 3 years ago. Excited to watch this defensive line unit disrupt! It all starts in the trenches. Hopefully then can reek havoc and clear room for a raw group of linebackers. I remember Stoops saying that ideally, in his system, the defensive line applies pressure and through pressure forces interceptions. Likewise, the defensive backfield glues the receivers and creates coverage sacks.

I think our defensive backs will take 2 more years to reek havoc. But our defensive line (hopefully) seems like they are there now and ready to be savages!

    Where’s the Z man?

    1. And I Repeat

      Your point?

  10. GymBunny

Mrs. TT… were you completely joking or do you really not know that the chains are part of the gym workout and are there at the gym just like stationary bikes, dumbells, etc.?

  11. Tricky

Is that the Cincinnati zoo or Knoxville zoo?

  12. JBCat

Gotta love the lil bro fans once again trolling our boards, saying “LOOK LOOK at who no.1 be!,”
“He play fo us, he play fo us! “

How long will people continue to describe these guys as “freaks”? Doesn’t make sense really.

Freak is the term for freak of nature. Athletic freak. Our line is being pumped up we will have 2 new starting defensive tackles but we do have 2 all conf. DEs.our linebackers will be better this year is my opinion. Our secondary will be night and day better. Our offense is whay scares me. Good RBs pretty good O line. QB and WR scare me both should be better but how much better?? We were awful last year there. I see us going 6-6 with a couple of surprise wins.2015 we will go 9-3 or 8-4. Then i see us consistently going to bowl games after this year. Maybe we can get it started this year. Hopefully because going bowling this year would go miles for 2015 that extra month would work wonders for all the young players. Ball out uk..
