Get that money, Coach Stoops!

Not even six months after signing a contract extension, Mark Stoops has agreed to another contract extension that will keep him at Kentucky through 2019. Mitch Barnhart had this to say:

Mark is guiding our program in the direction we all want it to go and we are proud to reward that. I was confident Mark was right for this job when I hired him, but he has exceeded my expectations. From leading a group of young men to recruiting to fundraising, Mark has embraced and excelled in all facets of this job. I am excited about the progress our team has shown on the field, but this is as much about the next five years as it is the last 1.5. As I’ve said before, I believe we can compete at the highest level in the toughest conference. Coach Stoops is the coach to take us there.

He’s just getting started, bro.

Update: We will have a live press conference with Mark Stoops streaming on KSR at 2:00 pm. Cats.

I’m glad we are taking care of Coach Stoops before Florida, Michigan, and the others fire their coaches. Good job Mitch.

    Congrats coach!

Lock up Brown, Eliot, and Marrow too!

Very smart move! Recruiting is getting ready to soar, now that any rumblings of him leaving will be squashed.

Brown will be a head coaching candidate soon. I hope the program is recognizing that as well.

I expect him to get several interviews in the offseason. I’d love to lock him in for one more year but the opportunity may be too rich for anyone to pass up.

Wait, the same Neal Brown that everyone said was an awful OC after the LSU game? The same guy who won’t throw the ball down the field? The same guy who won’t run the ball with his RBs?

Brown is a good OC and with the right talent excels. He is NOT a miracle worker and many UK fans need to realize that and appreciate him.

    Hope the buyout is HUGE!

    incase you are wondering:

Here’s his new pay scale. This may or may not be in addition to a $400,000 base salary. That’s kind of unclear.

Nov. 1, 2014-June 30, 2015: Prorated portion equal to an annual sum of $2.6 million

The following years start on July 1 and end on June 30 (so while it ends in 2020, its through the 2019 season):
    2015-16: $2.85 million
    2016-17: $3.1 million
    2017-18: $3.35 million
    2018-2019: $3.6 million
    2019-20: $3.85 million

    It’s a big raise.

    1. St. Paul Raiders

      That’s without the 400k base.

    We’re just getting started bro!

Hopefully, Coach Stoops can continue his fantastic recruiting and complete the UK Football turn-around to respectability…

Did you hear that? Sounded like a huge moan coming out of Louisville.

    1. the ghost of Bill Hicks

Did it come from Sypher or Becca Manns

I thought it was a bit premature to offer him that first extension, though I believed he would get us back on the right path. I just thought it was odd to offer an extension based solely on recruiting success (only 2-10 at that point).

This, on the other hand, is deserved. He’s won some games, put us on the path to a bowl game, and other teams may come knocking. He definitely deserved it. Grats coach, thanks for being here.

Yeah, I just don’t get it. It looks like we are going in the right direction, but we are offering a raise for a man whose overall record is 7-13. Only in the sports world. It is entirely possible that we could end the season at 5-7 and then how smart will this look? We couldn’t wait until the 6th win?
